Murray was too short for Daniher. I found it curious that they didn't have Butts on him.

Also Danniher is a bloody good key forward in his own right when he's healthy. Though, my guess is "**** it, it's a preseason game, let's push them out of their comfort zone".

Yes, I can only think we thought it was more important to teach Murray than Butts for a practice game.

So watched the match. Here's my take on it

Good - was against a strong opposition. Brisbane had a strong squad.

Rachele, wow we found a gem. Transition what I saw in match sim, up against decent opposition. . Already seen the one touch player skills, and finishing skills. What I'm really excited about is his composure, taking a tackle and releasing the handball to advantage or to a team mate. Get his tank up and he will get a run in the engine room and up fwd.

Thilthorpe, kicked 2 on Harris Andrews, think he's probably one of the best young defenders about to hit there peak (25 years old)

Sogilio, we have a another decent midfielder hard at it, composed, neat kick. Think he builds his craft in the sanfl but I he will feature late in the year or early next year once his body develops more. 179cm actually looks like he has a decent frame on him, so not a small sub 180cm like Jones and mchenry.

Jones, as a previous poster mentioned the good and the bad. The bad few holding the ball calls were rough, one from panic hand ball from hately another from soglio. Few poor kick ins, but what I did notice...the team where using him alot, he was really involved and he came back later in the game means he's not dropping his head which was my biggest worry.

Hinge, got could out early but worked into the pace of the game and had some great defensive efforts and a play were he certainly through centre square to receive a clearance and neat kick fwd that turned into a goal. Think he plays round 1. I know Kelly copped a bit on this board, but was still defensively pretty sound player, was just what would come after a great defensive effort, like the slow down play and turn over by foot. Hinge looks like a prefect replacement and maybe with a solid run of games will be a better player having more tools on his belt.

Davis, credit were credit is due. Really elevated himself in my eyes.

McPherson, few fumbles but decent game. Didn't seem much of his run and carry which was disappointing.

Bad - mature bodies looked like monsters to our team.

Keays and mchenry, the work horses were disappointing. Two guys I probably picked to explode this year didn't get alot of it, and when they did didn't use it well.

Mchenry got bumped off the ball at times makes me think he will always be to undersized to be a midfielder. Had some good defensive efforts but made a few panic decisions and robbed some of our own players a times when he should have worked off them to provide and option or sheppard the player. Not going to judge off one preseason game but if this continues he's not best 22.

Murray is he big enough to be a kdp? Not a great day at the office but made me think is he big enough to deal with the 200cm plus fwds of the game. Maybe we are just a poor match up with Brisbane because of all there tall stocks.

ROB
When he doesn't take defensive incept marks, you tend to focus on other parts of his game which he's not great at. Our midfield and ruck are the biggest weakness in our team atm.

Pedlar
Im big fan of him and have seen snips of what hes cable of such a meh game, still not best 22.

Cook
My boy, worst game I've seen him play. Looked lost and tired. Hope that wasn't the covid!
Would like to see him get settled as a fwd.

Sholl
Mackay 2.0

Fogarty
Hes a medium, third sting fwd. Similar to McGovern. Or move him back and incept defender that had some success in his junior career.

So who's comes back

Adelaide vs Brisbane

B Murray Butts Brown
HB McPherson Jones Hinge
C Sholl Schoenberg Soligo
HF Rachele keays mchenry
F Thilthorpe forgarty mcadam
Fol: Rob Laird Berry

Dawson - Cook
Doedee - McPherson
Sloan - Hately

Very on point.

Agree on Hinge and McPherson. Both strong (Brown good as well) in defence.

Good news is Butts couldn't really play any worse. Worst I've seen him play.

Murray still has question marks 1v1, but he was up against a very good (and tall) player. Gets desperate and clumsy sometimes.

Agree on Cook and Pedlar. Looked lost to me. Chasing bodies and couldn't find the ball.

ROB was outbodied in almost every single ruck and marking contest. Horrible game.

Jones started really well and then was hammered by the umps on numerous occasions. Think he lost a bit of confidence after that.

McHenry looked like he was in 2020. He'll bounce back.

Agree on fog. He's not a long bomb forward especially against good tall defenders. Doesn't have the height. I would have him further up the ground linking up play. He's also up against it if that's what it forward entries look like this year. TT will also struggle.

McAdam needs to provide SOMETHING. Had a shocker and he was similar in some games last year.

Sholl lacks confidence on the field since his early games imo. Not going for his kicks as much. He got smothered at one point where he could have easily dummied. Could see that coming a mile away. I think as the team improves he'll get some more outside ball. Then he just needs to take the game on.

Agree that Keays had a stinker as well. Nothing like 2021. Crouch on the other hand looked sharp albeit lacking match fitness.

Re watching the game also highlighted how bloody good Brisbane's tall stocks are. Andrews, Gardiner and Adams is probably the best full back line imo. Then they've got mcstay and Daniher up forward with Hipwood to come back! Bloody hell. Probably the best small forward line in the comp as well. They should really win a flag in the next few years.
