AFL needs to jump on pushing players into the contest. Players are getting badly injured. The cats game is one that comes to mind in which Balta was pushed by Tom Hawkins and caused Soldo an knee reco from memory... just a matter of time until bad concussion occurs... could have been Lalaw today? If your beaten your beaten pushing ? Game can do without it...Just my 2c worth.
Pushing players in the back towards traffic is no different to getting king hit from behind. It not only in dangerous the player you push but the others as well. In this case he pushed him onto 4 other players. The fact they are not even looking at it is a disgrace.

Probably one of the funniest posts i have seen since Shandi or Magic. Great stuff.
Thank god you seen it that way it was meant o be hilarious as your observations are out there so many if and buts. Poor Magic cops it again but you don't even know the dude are you really stooping so low dude.

not enough
😂 derwaynnnnnnne on sen yesterday interviewing shocking and derwayyyyne asks him did he bring in stand rule to stop tigers winning 6 in a row and they had a little chucke like 8 year old school girls . Derwaayyyyyne rekons it’s a great rule so does shocking days everybody loves it

I disagree. I didn’t think he was our worst today and I reckon he’ll be a player with another thirty games under his belt. Reminds me a bit of Broad … absolute deer in the headlights at times early in his career but just got better each game as his confidence grew.

I’ve seen enough glimpses of quality play from Tresize to not dismiss him as a player.

Why we think everyone who has less than a dozen games is the finished article is beyond me. Didn’t Grimes, Rance, Lambert, Astbury, Broad, Houli, Edwards, Castagna, McIntosh etc.. teach us anything about patience?

Nothing to do with yesterday. He hasn’t shown he’s AFL standard at all in his short time at the club imo. If it wasn’t for expansions teams, he wouldn’t be on an AFL list, he’s VFL standard at best

Who cares? We are year 1 of a rebuild after the vast majority of our flag teams have retired or moved on. Carlton are in the window - they should be pumping us. They should have pumped us last year but we had them on toast until we copped 3 injuries before half time and even then we stayed with them.

The crap being written in here after 3 x 25 mins match sim played at 9:30 in the morning in Feb by a group of kids who have never played together is laughable. A fair few in here need to take a good hard look at themselves and chill the **** out. If you have to live your lives vicariously through some kids, you have bigger problems.
There was 11 players < 10 games , realistically couldn’t expect any better , you’ll always be on back foot . To critique their output and game plan is ridiculous,,,,as I says , we ll get more from the coll hit out as we should be 80% full strength

Not rocket science to understand all this. Some of us anyhow.

Perhaps the slow ball movement was just an extension of what they have been doing at training, but under real pressure. That may not be the game plan with full list, but more of a way for the young team to do some of the basics under game conditions, get their hands on the ball and not just run and bomb it long to a very young forward line.

It was just a game where the coaches could have a look at a lot of new players playing together for the first time, so they wanted some measure of safety/coordination, which is what we will be looking for when supporting more experienced team mates.

Pretty harsh there I reckon sante. He's coming from a long way back, was playing for Tooradin only 3 seasons ago. He has some AFL traits IMO.

Where is all the overlap run coming from though to play fast? Who are our quicker players that are gonna get a lot of the ball through the middle to make a difference. If Hopper, Taranto, Prestia types are going to be our high disposal winners again, its just going to be hacking the ball forward or slow play.

Trying to play fast with slow players will be extremely hard word that will come undone very quickly and have an avalanche of goals go the other way after quarter time, just like today happened anyway.

Last year we were way short of quick skillful players to play modern footy, hence we won only 2 games. Now we lost our 2 best by a mile (and Baker was probably next best).

I don't see any miracle tactics to win us many games this season, probably the next few years as well. With a slow team you better absolutely smash teams at stoppages, surely we've seen enough of Hopper and Taranto now, that they cant do that. We somehow lose the clearances as well.

Post-bye is all I care about in regards to personnel as that’s when we should have majority of our list fit.

Here are the players I’d regard as having the most ‘genuine’ leg speed on our list:

Hotton
Campbell
MRJ
J Clarke
K Smith
Alger
Lefau
Short
Sims

Five of those nine didn’t play on Monday.

We’ve got plenty of genuine leg speed on our list. We will add at least two more in the next off-season. It’s the least of my worries.

Loved the presence of a few of the big guys. Blight especially looked strong, composed and intercepted nicely. Sims, Fawcett too. Loved their attack in the air, it’s exactly what we’ve lacked. From there it was just the odd contest here and there that stood out. Hate to say it but Dow was ok and Samson competed ok and his pass inside 50 was a beauty.
Like everyone else I hated the slow play. I bet they were practicing a strategy and have no doubt it’s not the ball movement that we’ll see with a full team in.
Only 23 on the plane then losing HRS meant we were horribly disadvantaged playing against 28 so it was pleasing the intensity was good right until the end of Q3. And that gimp that pushed Lalor should get the firing squad.

VFL standard at ‘best’? He came in via the 2023 mid-season draft and won the VFL B&F in 2023 in just over half a season.

So he’s clearly a cut above VFL standard. He may not make an AFL footballer, I don’t know. But he’s certainly worth persevering with given he’s shown he’s a cut above VFL level.

would be going kozi and blight over miller.
Both were better yesterday.

Blight didn't look any different to last year though. I wanna see him play on an opponent. Long term we're going to have Balta and Gibcus there, and the perfect third key alongside them is someone who can be more of a lockdown defender to free them up to intercept.

Kosi might be more suited to that role, but does he have the talent and confidence in the air?

if 90s/2000s Eddie McGuire was our president, this would already be done and signed off.

current RFC are on the slow bus to the ground, and late to come out after the second period.
If Eddie the a##hole was president of RFC I would defect to Collingwood. For all his bluster and embarrassing stuff ups he only got the pies one premiership.

I reckon Bauer bounces back, yep nobody likes a guy sulking it’s a bad look. But everybody has off days. Bauer plays with an intensity and confidence that is the reason he’s made it to where he is, why he’s improved so much, and had been pencilled in everybody’s teams all of offseason.

He had a crap day, when he would have been expecting to dominate. It’s probably the first time at this level he’s also been expected by the coaches to dominate and go out there and take his spot in the team.

I’ve watched him in the VFL and I would argue the behaviour yesterday is not typical of him. He’s a competitive bloke who’d be feeling the pressure of 3 first round key forwards also walking in the door. I’m not writing him off

One of kozies best attributes is his marking. 2nd half of last year he showed it. If he brings it consistently he will be solid.

Pray that gibcus can stay on the park. He is hugely important for our future.

Definitly shouldn't write him off, but there were Cumberland vibes in some of the behaviour being described.

I guess we shouldn't forget Bauer is under some serious pressure medium & longer term with the club having recruited a heap of keys/3rd talls over the last 16 months....Blight, Fawcett, Gray, Faull, Trainor, Armstrong, Sims, Koschitzke, Lefau have been added to the list in that time and along with Lefau, also Young and Gibcus have to come back into circulation competing for those positions this year. And Lynch. So including Miller & Balta there are 14 players he is ultimately competing with for about 6 roles. The additions of Gray, Trainor & Armstrong in particular he would feel as they look direct competition for 3rd tall roles forward and back, and they are all looking promising.

Bauer is under a fair bit of pressure to perform every time he plays, and he would know this. By comparison, in 2017 we had 10 players on our list competing for these roles, including Broad. By 2019 there were 11. Now including Broad there are 16. The club will clearly looking to shed some of these players over coming seasons, and only Lynch & Broad will be hovering around retirement age over the next 2-3 seasons. 2 or 3 will need to be traded or delisted to get our list into shape to contend. Last years premiers Lions have about 12 players on their list for these roles. Blues 11 or 12. So we have clearly run with a big surplus preparing to unload the weakest links.
