Smith would be the smart bet at the moment, he’s a ball pig, should get games with the likes of Kennedy traded, a competitive team and wont attract a huge amount of attention from oppo’s

Ashcroft would probably be worth a cheeky flutter on as well for similar reasons
Mcaullife the smart bet I reckon

Yeah Short and Baker first shifted into the middle when we had that horror injury run in mid 2022 and literally ran out of proper midfielders to play
I think Short’s first game as a mid was against WC in Perth when he banged 2 or 3 from outside 50. Some lovely “lowering of the eyes” passes which was very welcome given we had a habit of bombing into 3 on 1’s.

Darcy Moore, Jeremy Howe, May, Lever, Andrews etc all loved us.

Seriously?!?
We aren't winning and/or going anywhere with half a dozen new inexperienced draftees making up the team either.
So by your reasoning we load up our side with the new draftees and play them against seasoned hard physical bodies.
Smart coaching move...
Let's bang up our new toys as fast as we can...try and cause some more 'Louie' long term injuries...
The player you denigrate in your post as the 'Guy' has a roll to play and will play in the side until he is forced out...
Despite being near Christmas, there must be no 'gifting' of games...players must earn their ticket to the Firsts!
We need to focus on team development/improvement, and that takes time, not focus immediately on winning some irrelevant games...
Smart development is a 'Winning' strategy...
Play the kids in 2 game blocks and tank every 3rd game

There is no way we play Armstrong and Faull early on together. Bauer 100% takes one of those forward spots and even Kosi plays before the kids

Legitimately no reason to throw them to the sharks like that
Well, Bickley’s comment the other day demonstrates these commentators have no idea about our list.

We had twenty injuries for a good part of the year and still won a few games. No way we go winless, and no way we have a bunch of 18 year olds in round one.

What about R5 v Eagles?

12 disposals, 8 marks, 5 tackles and kicked 3.2. Took 6 marks inside 50.

That’s an outstanding game for what was just the 4th game of his career.

Let’s put it this way … Cadman has never taken more than 5 marks in a game. He’s never had more than 12 disposals (he’s got 12 twice in 35 games). He’s never kicked 4-goals (he’s kicked 3 goals 3-times).

And there was a lot of hype about Calsher Dear .. never had more than 12 disposals, never took more than 5 marks and never kicked more than 3 goals.

And JUH … in his first 27-games he never had more than 12 disposals and never took more than 6 marks. In 21 of his first 27 games he kicked 0 or 1 goal.

So Lefau performed admirably in a hopeless team, and we should be really optimistic about what he can deliver for the next 5-6 years.

And he hurt a lot of the opps

I like tresize but see him as more of a lockdown player then creative type. Not saying he can’t break the lines but just don’t see him with the creative side like Rioli

Trezise is stronger in the air and as good a ball user.

Everyone gets wowed by a bit of dash at half back yet the best half backs are good ball users that intercept.

Ageism is alive and well on the Richmond board is it?

Ageism. Feeble old stupid losers like me over 65 years old, open to ridicule because i can freely post my views on any social media website i choose and on how i see world and the football team i have loved all my all-to-long insignificant life.

Ageism, yeah sad isn't it. That old farts like me can remember being alive all those long years back and being thrilled beyond belief because i was a 9 years old kid when we broke the 24 year old drought and beat Geelol in the 1967 Grand Final.

Extra sad that i can remember being alive and seeing all the other fecking Premierships we have won over the years and being there, on the other side of the fence to see our players like Billy Barrot, Royce Hart and Dick Clay in the flesh giving their all for us.

Yeah ageism, why I am not in a nursing home? Anyone like me is all too old to have political view contrary to others.

Yeah i hate Trump with a passion, so sad that i have posted here that fact. Sad I get labelled pathetic because i post a personal view i had with my family.

Anyway despite all this shit i believe is being thrown my way, i believe my memories and opinions are just as valid here, anywhere else and against anyone else.

Go Tigers

The Coach reckons get games into the kids over Le fau. I liked Le fau's footy, but I reckon Bauer is also doing a good job as 3rd tall. How long is recovery for an ACL? I'd be giving him max recovery time.

2022 We saw Gibcus debut early & play 18 games. Clarke next with 3, I think. Then Sonz late with 5 or 7.

Banks & Brown took a while to build their bodies. The Blair gang of 8 look ready to go physically. I'd be rotating one of the new KPFs every 3rd game. Preseason work out who's up to AFL standard. See what happens with Gibcus, Trainor looks ready & may play. Depends on Balta, Miller or Blight too.

I'd play Smilie from the start but not Lalor. Be cautious with the kid who was injured. Alger? I'd even look at Sims off the bench as ruck back up. Very low TOG, like Soldo & even Miller in that lost final.

Rioli didn’t play as a forward again after 2019. Check fanfooty
Don't need to. My memory is fine. I think the collective memory span of fanfooty is a worry though. Rioli did not move to the backline until - at the earliest - 2021.

And I still think it was 2022. He didn't play back while Houli was still there.

Great post.

Agreed on the above. When he was first selected I thought man this guy is no hope. But was shattered when he went down, was genuinely looking really promising. It will be tough for him with the amount of KPPs we’ve drafted though. Hopefully he makes the most of his opportunities.

B&B still building their bodies, and the resilience to overcome regular injuries. For a number of kids, particularly talls still growing into their bodies and building core and joint strength, or kids with injuries, it can take a few preseasons.

Agree the Blair8 look more ready than previous years.
Smillie has the look of a first round debut. Armstrong looks a chance to play early. Faull’s back will be monitored, but looks strong. Alger small but pretty solid, a chance if he’s good enough.
Trainer slightly built and grew a fair bit this year, and he’s courageous, would want to make sure he’s got the conditioning.
Sims looks like he’s got strong legs, but was also growing recently. Don’t think he’ll be rushed, then maybe low TOG as you note. Cautious with Hotton.

Lalor has the strength, but no previous preseason, interrupted season, and a serious injury meaning modified preseason again. Might have to build strength in areas to protect against further injury. Excited to see him play as early as possible, but to rush him would be crazy.

The Serpent needs to work out which ones and when. Several will make debuts, but…

What the afl website reckons our best in 2025 ( first part anyway) looks like

4 of our new kids…Lalor,Smillie, Faull and Harry get a gig
…Trainor energ along with Banks, Dow Jimmy T

No team will look more different than Richmond in 2025. The Tigers lost some of their best players – Daniel Rioli, Shai Bolton, Liam Baker and Jack Graham– to other clubs, plus Dustin Martin and Dylan Grimes to retirement. It meant Richmond had six first-round picks in November's Telstra AFL Draft. Sam Lalor, Josh Smillie, Jonty Faull, Luke Trainor and Harry Armstrong are all expected to get plenty of opportunities in Adem Yze's second season in charge, while Taj Hotton is recovering from a knee reconstruction. Judson Clarke, Mykelti Lefau, Tylar Young and Josh Gibcus are all still recovering from ACL tears. - Josh Gabelich

B: Nathan Broad, Noah Balta, Nick Vlastuin
HB: Jayden Short, Josh Gibcus, Tom Brown
C: Jack Ross, Tim Taranto, Hugo Ralphsmith
HF: Rhyan Mansell, Harry Armstrong, Sam Lalor
F: Maurice Rioli jnr, Tom Lynch, Seth Campbell
Foll: Toby Nankervis, Dion Prestia, Jacob Hopper
I/C: Josh Smillie, Ben Miller, Steely Green, Jonty Faull

Emerg: Sam Banks, James Trezise, Luke Trainor, Thomson Dow

Friendly reminder Caesar keeps creaming about mcauliffes preseason form so far and currently at $41 for RS. He's big he's fast, he accumulates and he's a good user. Just saying.
Plays for Richmond and isn't a Shifter love child. Just give me the money if you wanna piss it away.

You are correct - Rioli did not play back whilst Houli was there.

Daniel Rioli started playing backline in R17 2021. Bachar Houli’s last ever game was R16 2021.

These 2 occurrences are not a coincidence.

And it’s easy to confirm Rioli starting in the backline at that time by reviewing footywire and looking at his Rebound 50 stats, metres gained and disposal rate (and no goals kicked from R17).
