An indigenous forward who also happens to be a Tasmanian red head. Love having Jones at Carlton, it's like Robinson and Garlett never left!

Nek minnit Jones gets involved in a public brawl...

I'm not sure why a lot of people are saying Jaksch is not bulky enough to lock down a key post for us and I also dismiss the notion that he's not ready for early senior action in 2015 provided his foot is fine. He will surely add some bulk during the year but he may never be a physical beast type player like a lot on here expect him to be.
Let me just add a few thoughts:
1. Not every key defender has to have monster bulk. Dustin Fletcher is the perfect example. He uses his extra agility (from not carrying monster bulk) to get in smart positions to spoil and is a very effective player.
2. Carrying less bulk will allow Jaksch to be yet another swing man for us and push forward when required. See that beautiful running goal he kicked against us in 2014.
3. He towelled up Hendo that day and that's no mean feat because Hendo had the mature body.
4. He is still young so he will continue to add bulk, but we don't necessarily need him to be a monster key defender. I think the game is shifting away from the monster types. I can really only think of a couple of monster key forwards (Hawkins being one).

You've got a valid argument Blue By Blood but have you seen Jaksch?
Someone like Fletcher is very sinewy but Jaksch, up until a couple of weeks ago at least, had very little muscle definition.

It's not just us here saying this, Mick himself was surprised just how lean he was given he's had 2 years in the system

I've seen a bit of him, but yeah I'm definitely not claiming to be an expert in regards to him. I just think that the way the game is going and so forth, that he should be able to cope in the team even with his light frame and I don't agree that his light frame will stop him from succeeding. I'm sure he will bulk up a bit more yet though.

He may be a hard gainer and find it difficult to put on a heap of mass. I guess time will tell. Who knows what happened at GWS in regards to their weight regime but surely they would have been trying to bulk up their young list pretty quickly (without pushing them too hard to the point of soft tissue injuries).

Good thing about it all is I don't think he'll do a Bootsma. I'd imagine he'd be doing his darnest to bulk up and follow the dietary expectations, let alone the off-field self protraits.;)

Could this be a biproduct of being from the GWS system? Do they have the regime and resourcs to get those players where they need to be?

In addition, one poster said Jaksch was complaining about how difficult training had been. If true, seems he may not have been pushed hard enough at GWS.

The positive being that we will see a marked improvement in him because he will be fitter/stronger.

Has anyone been along to training recently or has it been all locked out sessions? Any training reports of late? Cant seem to have seen any scrolling through the pages. Cheers.

Carlton draftee Blaine Boekhorst on track for pre-season opener in home state

Mature-age recruit Blaine Boekhorst is keen to show why Carlton coveted his penetrating kicking, starting in next month's NAB Challenge against West Coast.
Boekhorst, 21, has revealed the Blues have told him he will line up in Mandurah in his home state provided he continues to train well and his body handles the rigours of a maiden AFL pre-season.
"That's the short-term goal at the moment," he saidt. "They have said if my body is up and going and I am going well at training, they will play me against West Coast. That's my goal. It will be a nice little start to the career."
As well as his run and carry through the midfield, Boekhorst is intent on using his "penetrating kick", a handy aid if the Blues maintain a long-kicking game plan, having had the fewest total team possessions on a weekly basis of any club last year.
"They need that [long kicking], they have said that to me, so, hopefully, I can fulfil that role for them. Hopefully, I can come into the team and make an impact," Boekhorst said.

Thought he may get a shot in W.A.

I still haven't seen anything from Boekhorst to show him as a penetrating kick. DVR definitely but no so much Boekhorst.

Let's just hope he's not on peter siddle's rabbot food diet. Sort him out on a high protein n complex carb diet he'll be fine. No shortage on meat n potatoes or pasta available on lygon street for him now ;)

The Blues have undergone a cultural shift this pre-season under the guidance of team leaders Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs. There is more of a professional focus on the intangibles, including such things as players being tapped and ready to train on time.

"It's a massive cultural change at our club at the moment, with the older boys more proactive. It's more player-based driven. We all work together for that one goal. It's great to have those boys backing it up," Boekhorst said.

From the same Boekhorst article but what does this mean?

Culture change............proactive.........player-driven..........one goal..........:thumbsu:

From the same Boekhorst article but what does this mean?

I think it was supposed to say 'taped', not 'tapped'. These articles are usually written by work experience kids or adults who got jobs as journalists through old-mate networks, not the love of language.

:p
