Honestly, you're misreading the situation.

The club are acknowledging that the level of engagement and content for the fans has been lacklustre in previous seasons.

Evidently, it's been amazing so far this pre-season. This is the club listening to its members and fans, and correcting that.

Not to mention, a very different playing group. New faces. New energy. Work your arse off, but make the place enjoyable and welcoming.

Stuff like this is endearing the old guard and new players to the fan base.
