Simmo's comments on Gaff's injuries negates a lot of the BF gripes on Gaff for last couple of seasons.
Same could be said for Sheed and others. We're not always privy to the full extent of injuries here.
If comments from recent sports commentators and bystanders are to be believed we need scans to corroborate Gaff's injury before he's let off the hook.

Not 15 minutes later

I don't believe the injury stuff about Gaff. It's just an excuse to protect him from criticism. Anyone who has had any kind of serious ankle injury will be able to tell you, that you can't run on it

It was clear Gaff was struggling to run last year to the point where he shouldn’t have been playing had it not been for circumstances at the time

I for one genuinely hope Andrew Gaff genuinely gets back to his best and pushes for an AA spot.

One, because he’s been such a consistently good player for such a long time- I really hope he doesn’t kind of fade into obscurity. He’s a better player than that.

Secondly, it will mean he will likely have become a more attacking threat and we need our midfielders to hit the scoreboard this year. We never really saw the goal scoring version Gaff after he came back from his suspension in 2018.

*and for those questioning his ability to run with an ankle- he has been known to push through pain week in week out in years past. I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest he would do it if the team needed him.

What I have noticed with Gaff is that after wearing normal boots most of his career he’s actually not only training in “career saver” boots but he also played in em last week. Not something we see a lot from mids and especially runnings mids

Gaff to keep running up and down the wing until at least 35🙏
Obviously hampered last year, but if utilized correctly can be a lock doing what he does best.

Surprised more players aren’t doing this after the complaints about MRP and Optus being too hard Or at least just training in them

Could be a preventative measure the players could take whilst the surface takes a few years to soften. Maybe Oscar plays last year if so

Redden wore them for at least his last 2 seasons .

Mundy wore them for 5 + seasons

Heard redden talk about those boots on the radio . You lose 5m on your kicking but are much less likely to do a soft tissue injury and it lessens recovery time.

Gaff isn't known for his long kicking anyway

Only really a problem if you are kicking for goal.

What boots was Zac Langdon wearing. Lost 20m on his kicking and list his career.

Gaff’s kicks won’t travel as far backwards? That’ll do nicely.

What's the gee-oh with reduced squads for the match tomorrow? Are we down to 23 or running with an extended bench, but not quite as extended as last week?

Curious to see if Shuey and Ginbey get a run, and who that might push out. Wonder if Hewitt has done enough to earn himself more minutes or if he gets skittled out entirely to make way for the likes of Shuey returning.

I think they're 26-man squads, so eight on the bench.

I know redden tend to be outside a bit and has good endurance but those boots wouldn’t be great for players that run alot I’d assume

Because some on here are looking for excuses to bag players who haven't even played as yet.

I like Hewett. Think he’s a very good chance of being a top 5 player from his draft year because he’s a natural footballer. Skilled on both sides of his body

That said, from what I’ve observed at training I don’t think he has the tank to play four quarters of football as a midfielder in the AFL. I’m not saying that as a criticism just an observation

It won’t surprise me in the slightest if he’s selected as the sub for round 1, in fact I think he should be as the best player for that role

Yes, there is a game tomorrow, late arvo.
My thoughts are - can't wait to see Ginbey, and any stand outs?
No expectations of course...
