People on here were saying 3-4 months recovery.

I get he won’t be ready to play footy after four months but four months from now is round one give or take a week or two.

If that timeframe is remotely close to accurate I don’t think we’d use the SSP to replace Jones tbh.

Drafting a KPF to cover him isn’t impossible though. I think we would’ve done that next year after cutting either Jones or one of the rucks anyway.

They are saying 3-4 months recovery. Then he starts slow rehab and conditioning which after back surgery isn’t going to be quick. It doesn’t sound good but like always we should all wait until further medical prognosis news.

Either way I don’t think we are in the position to make any decision by this time next week (i.e. the draft).

If it is 3-4 months a mid season return maybe isn’t unrealistic (???) and if there’s a chance of a mid season return I don’t think they’ll even consider a SSP replacement.

Yes it will depend on the recovery time as a whole. If <6months in total then leave as is and if there are complications we can consider replacement at MSD. If >6months then place on LTI. A fractured vertebrae is serious injury.

My thinking is rather than wait to SSP where you losing opportunity to draft at 54-60 a player who would inevitably be selected in the remaining ND/PSD/RD. We can select that player with our third pick and then add Carr as rookie. Rather than say add Carr via ND and trial a bunch of players left over after all the drafts.

The article on AFL.com.au says he has undergone surgery. Therefore next Thu is 7-8 days post surgery and very likely he will meet with surgeon for post op review and outline recovery timeframes etc.

I never said delisted.

I meant rather than saving up a rookie spot for Narkle - we use that rookie spot by adding Jaren Carr. Then submit paperwork for Odin Jones on LTI and choose Narkle as SSP.

My understanding is if Jaren Carr is overlooked in the ND and PSD that he is automatically added as F/S to rookie draft.

I don’t believe we have made any promises to Carr for ND but seems he is in the mix. We can instead look at adding another player via ND with our third selection. Potentially upgrade it with a F3.

I really don't think we will have enough info in a week, and be allowed to open up a list spot before the draft.

If SSP is a lot later, then maybe we will have enough time to work out the extent of the injury.

To do what you suggest, we would need to be 100% sure Jones was going on the LTI list by Friday.

From what I can see it is 4 months, if you have surgery which he is having.

Then the question would be how long it would take him to get back to being ready to play WAFL football after the 4 months, and if he wants to do it.

I would be guessing, you would loose conditioning massively. I think he will struggle all year.

Wow. Corbett was clearly finished.

If we moved him to the LTI list today, could take an extra pick in the draft?

I think the list lodgement is done, but we can take an extra pick in the national draft, or leave Jaren Carr to a rookie list spot, knowing one of our rookie spots will open up during the SSP.

Corbett was effectively career finished.

There is no indication Jones is that bad.

Think everything you've said is right tbh. Don't think there's enough time for this to make much of a change to what we do next week but a SSP spot might be opened up later.

The Odin Jones news is very sad.
He was one that I expected to begin to show the promise that the club see in him.
Big, strong and versatile.Ruck , forward and the club were in the process of training him into becoming a backman.
Wishing him all the best for his recovery.

If he is out for 4 months minimum and the club know's it, he's not playing AFL in 2025. Especially if we use the extra pick to get KPF cover.

I recon it's more down to if we want to spend the extra cap space on another player. We would have to have a giant injury list to have Odin or a 2025 KPF draftee playing in 2025 prior to this news. I think they would move Cox forward or even give Draper a go too before that.

I don't see the selectors moving Cox forward ever again.
He is a back man full stop.

We play 2 KPF's and 1 Forward/Ruck Hybrid. We have 1 spare KPF & 2 spare Rucks.

If we lose 2 KPF's to injury or suspension we might have to change our structure or stick a back forward as cover. I still see Cox & Draper possible for this. Maybe we also have Sturt play as a KPF and have one normal KPF and Jackson instead.

Why Fri (today)? He has undergone surgery already. I would have thought the surgeon will review him next week and be in a position to start mapping out his recovery. He won’t be the first 20 year old in history to suffer a fractured vertebrae. Look if they can’t ascertain this information before Thursday’s second draft night then we just leave the decision until after the drafts and take the opportunity to trial a few players via train on over summer.

Not “having” surgery. He has had surgery already.

It reads to me that he suffered the injury and went straight to hospital and underwent surgery.
