Ridiculous, should be a live stream on YouTube or even club websites.
It’s a scratch match ffs.

End of 1st qtr
GWS 24 to Swans 32.
Fast ball movement, lots of forward half pressure. We are a bit sloppier.
We had the breeze in the first qtr.
Angove 2 goals - both from 50m penalties but came from pressure acts.
We're doing lots of midfield rotation, so hard to get a feel for who's most effective.

Half time
GWS 35 to Swans 72.
Swans playing the conditions much better and made us look pretty soft.
Most of their shots were 45-55m and they rode the wind and they use the left-right cross breeze expertly.
1.5 shows we had a few chances but didn't make it count.
Playing on at all costs is playing into the Swans pressure game.
XOH seems to have learnt nothing. Angove looks very good.
We look to be experimenting more with positions than the Swans.

3/4 time
GWS 55 to Swans 98
Rain stunted a bit of improved play by our boys. Hogan with 3.
Cadman has been working on his guns and looks stronger in contests.
Jones is busy. Thomas and Muff doing nice things.
Callaghan very good. Stone is still not convincing.
Aleer handy and had a little go in ruck.
Mids are getting beaten too often.
Umpiring has been interesting.

Two back to back mistakes from Stone led to goals. There's still a sense that he's not entirely sure where he's meant to be.

Thomas looking a lot stronger. Cadman too. DJ and Daniels look good, with DJ quickly becoming our go to link player between mids/forward line.

Mids, Callaghan aside, don't look confident in their clearance work/Swans mids are just cleaner/faster. Tom Green making a forlorn figure on the sideline.

Anyone got a Mongrol sub to get the takeaways from this?

I don’t pay much attention to the score.

Some of the off the ball running was poor. Intensity and body work around the ball poor. Some of the one on one defending poor. HH is a robber on the money he is on.
Conor Stone looks lost too often. Wehr is too light to play that role… gets out bodied way too easy by decent players.

Had way too much of 2020 vibes.

Hope I’m wrong.

What we learned: Adam Kingsley’s side were downed by 51 points in their first unofficial hit out of 2025, although his side was notably without Tom Green and Stephen Coniglio in their midfield. However, their absence enabled the likes of Finn Callaghan and Toby McMullin to spend more time on ball against superstars such as Isaac Heeney and Errol Gulden. Josh Kelly was best on ground for the visitors, however a lot of attention was brought to the game of first-year player Cody Angove. The first-round bolter in last year’s draft kicked two goals in the opening quarter, and finished with more of the ball than most of his teammates. “He’s seen that wing and tried to make it his own ... he’s doing a lot of things well,” GWS forward coach Jeremy Laidler said in a post-match press conference. “He’s in the right positions, presents at the ball… he’ll gain confidence... he’s doing all you can ask for,” 2005 premiership player Jared Crouch added on commentary. Another young up-and-comer is key forward is Aaron Cadman, who has evidently put on significant size during the off-season The #1 pick of the 2022 draft kicked three goals inside forward 5o, and had high impact with ball in hand. Small forward Darcy Jones was also lively running forward of the ball, and looked a nuisance to match up on from a Swans perspective. Phoenix Gothard had a very minor ankle roll during the match simulation, and wasn’t risked at the back end of the match as the rain set in over Tramway Oval. How the Giants look to aid main ruck Kieran Briggs throughout 2025 continues to be an intriguing watch, with Max Gruzewski a possible option as a second ruck; despite his height of 192cm and limited time on ground on Friday.

Our midfield absolutely stunk. Sydney was getting first hands on it, pressuring into turnovers off guys who don't have as much maturity so were doing panic handballs etc.

It's hard to say with guys like Cogs and Tom out.

I absolutely agree with what you say. I was there and our midfield was smashed from the get-go. Hard to dominate when you are losing every clearance. I agree Tom and Cogs are big outs but we should have been able to perform better than that. Also Swans defence was very good and were often able to intercept with ease on the few occasions the ball made it into our F50. Also echo the comments re Conor Stone. Two easy turnovers for two easy swan goals. Another time he successfully batted the ball away from an opposition player then jogged on past not looking at the ball. The attitude seemed to be " job done" meanwhile the swans player simply picked the ball up and continued on. Finally felt Ash and XO were just phoning it in. I know it's just a match sim, but it's the swans and I just didn't see the hunger to beat them.

How did Leake look up close? Assuming you hung around while it rained.

It's been this way for a while. Can anyone remember the last truly great performance from our midfield? I reckon it was the 2023 semi final against Port where we carved them to pieces.

Leake, Rowston and others might develop into great mids, but they're young and it will take time. I'm concerned about any matches we play that don't feature all of Green, Kelly and Coniglio, and we already know Tom will miss a few up front.

Peatling's energy and intensity around the contest (especially without the ball) will be missed too.
