Every chance we start the season 0-2. This board will be melting hard if it happens

If we can’t win at least one game against a Carlton side missing Walsh and Williams and an Adelaide team who is still pretty crud then we aren’t winning a flag in 2023.

Assuming we don’t get a load of injuries before now and then I’ll be shattered (and surprised) if we are 0-2. Although I do think we are capable of working into the season from what might be a slow start as we did last year.

They should be able to cover Williams. He’s a loose half backer that has the odd good game.

Walsh is a big loss for them.

Key will be to have Prestia, Grimes and Lynch ready for round one. Far more important to focus internally than what our opponents put out on the park.

Looks likely the cover for William$ will be Markov.

Who thinks he can do 17 again? That’s an aberration, it was a freak season that only another GOAT could do.

But I don’t think it’s unrealistic to expect him to still be the most devastating player in the comp on his day. Ablett and Buddy both have done that well into their 30s.

Besides the entire sporting world skewing older and older as athletes look after their bodies. Messi just won a WC at 35, Lebron, KD, Steph are still all-stars and likely all nba at 34+, Tom Brady won a Super Bowl at 40+.l etc…
On his day sure but I am not too sure how often he can repeat it. From what I have seen, he needs to be able to push off opponents and break tackles. That is one thing he has seemingly started to lose in the last few seasons.
Dusty is no ordinary player. He's not even used in the same capacity as he was in 2017. But, it's about impact. I personally believe he can still impact and influence a game significantly. I think it's a brave person to write him off.
I am not writing him off, but all the talk is like he is the second coming of Jesus who is about to bestow the knowledge of sliced bread to everyone. I think he will have an impact but I wouldn't be surprised if Tarranto/Prestia/Hopper key difference. Hell I am worried about Lynch not getting a full preseason because we all saw last year that he is the most dominant forward when able to get on the park.

If Prestia has another injury plagued year and the team doesn’t make the 8 I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dion up for a trade.

He’s contracted for 2023 and 2024 on decent coin. No-one is touching him on big money if he can’t get on the park much this season. We’d need to pay more than half his salary and we’d get almost nothing in a trade (3rd rounder?) to clear him out and there’s no point doing that.

Prestia will play out his career at Tigerland. If we don’t make the 8 in 2023, there’s no reason to be pessimistic about 2024 given 10+ of our guns remain in their prime for a few more seasons. May as well have Prestia to call on if we are contending.

On paper Williams is better but I do like Oleg.
Although I do wonder if they can afford to have 2 run and gun half backs in Saad and Oleg in the same team. It leaves their back six highly exposed to small/medium forwards.

McGovern, Young, Weitering take the talls.
Docherty the third tall, rebounding runner, Saad and Oleg with the run and carry.

Good match ups for us.

Lynch - Weitering
Riewoldt - Young
Rioli- Saad
Cumberland - Docherty
Martin - Saad
Bolton - Oleg

Personally I think they keep Oleg on ice and play Newman, Kemp or Plowman instead for better balance.

Classic. Exactly what I was referring to. “Can’t win the flag if we lose to Carlton and Crows”

Ridiculous. It’s a marathon. The first few rounds are forgotten about pretty quickly.

What about sliced bread ? Is there a secret ? Some development?

C'mon don't keep it to yourself.

Is this the breaded chicken bread ?

Yep I was merely stating that despite being invited to train with Coll (obvs Fly and Leppa would know his game inside out) it was reported today Oleg looks likely to take up an offer from Carlton as a back up half back once William$ went down.

Also reported that Docherty will play mostly midfield (which suits me fine actually) but that was also before William$' ACL.

Plus according to you Saad is going to have his hands full ! Having to look after Dusty AND Jnr Lol

If he’s playing exclusively forward he won’t get the votes cause he won’t get as many disposals. You can immediately rule out the Brownlow, only the AA, B&F and Coleman (imagine the oppo melts 🤣) are up for grabs.

I think he’s got the AA forward pocket already locked in. Even at his age he’s better than Stengel by a mile.

Bolton will maneuver the match ups so he is on Docherty. Bolton seems to hate the bloke so would want to put on a party Infront of him.

They used a points system. These are the rankings based on the points system applied (for example 100 points for a Norm Smith, 100 points for a Brownlow etc) so under that points system, that's the order they finished in. It wasn't based on their opinion.
How many points they give for each award etc. is subjective though, so it really is based on their opinion.

Here's a small PMI

Plus
  • Taranto flying.
  • Hopper flying under the radar.
  • Dusty potentially rediscovering his connection with the club (which I think he was becoming increasingly distant)
  • The players seem to be bonding and grinding.

Minus
  • Lynch with the interrupted pre-season. He was phenomenal last season, and to win the premiership, we need him to do that again. I remember reading interviews where he credited a full pre season for finding the form he did. If that's honest, well, he ain't gonna have a good start to the season that's for sure.
  • An injured Lynch and 35 year old Jack Riewoldt are our tall timber. What's the plan here if there's an injury or Lynchy can't get on the park? Jack got swamped last year and was non-competitive when without a key forward supporter. A mixture of age and opponents knowing all his tricks. Soldo & Nank aren't the answer, it's either go Lynch or go home. We're banking on that guy.

Interesting
  • Cotchin as a forward -I don't like it. One of Cotchy's very few weaknesses are his set shots. The ball doesn't have much penetration and floats, often leaving it sailing left or right. I prefer him directing the troops in the middle, reminding TT and JH that we don't accumulate at Richmond, make every possession count.
  • Dusty & Cumbo in the forward line. I really rate Cumbo, and am curious to see any connection there, could rip a few teams apart.
