Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne, Ikon Park, 1.10pm

Who we want to see: Adam Treloar impressed in an intra-club clash last weekend, after a summer of ankle issues. But it’s the development of Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Sam Darcy that has Dogs supporters dreaming of a flag. For the Roos, slick No.3 pick draft pick Harry Sheezel booted three goals against the Tigers last week. He will challenge for the Rising Star award.

What we want to see: New coach Alastair Clarkson has emphasised greater ball movement, including an ability to run in numbers, while also demanding greater accountability at stoppages. Will this hold up? The Bulldogs have spoken of a more relaxed Luke Beveridge through the summer. Will that change if the Kangaroos take charge early?

Round one implications: The Kangaroos have a chance to make an early statement against the Eagles. To do that, they need to build momentum, which Cam Zurhaar and Luke Davies-Uniacke can deliver. Returning Bulldog Liam Jones has settled in well in defence, and will want to emerge unscathed, ahead of a Saturday night clash against Melbourne.

Hi folks, please excuse the intrusion.
SC question - Is Aaron Hall fit and ready to play this weekend?
Also, is he a lock for best 23?
Cheers.

doggies have a harder midfield than the tigs, but not as good up back. should be an interesting game with more focus on clearance
Definitely keen on seeing our clearance structures against a very deep Dogs midfield, but I am just as interested in how our forward line operates with Cunners, Comben and co.

He's absolutely killing it. Delivering 35m lasers out of defence and hitting team mates on the tit. Lock him in for 22 games plus finals..

They are a top 8 team and I reckon we’ll match them around the ground and in contest however they will have greater team cohesion and thats what it will come down too. We can match it (if fit with key personnel) in season
I think our midfield is quickly becoming as talented as theirs except they have the edge in experience. Xerri better play well otherwise English will take him to the cleaners if the succession plan of him taking Goldy's number one spot is in full swing.

Xerri is no match for English. hence! “Key personnel” comment. Darcy would give Xerri a bath.

A big man in the centre of the ground that can mark the pill is important. From what I have seen of Xerri, his contested “arms up” marking is mud. Winning the centre bounce isn’t that important. It what a ruckman does around the ground. I’d love nothing more to be wrong, Xerri is not the answer (based on previous seasons)

Xerri has to model his game on nanks - crash and bash follower.
Probably play a kick behind play at times

What impressed me the most last week was our structure at stoppages, it allowed us to defend and attack effectively depending on who won the clearance.
Our structure behind the ball was really solid and much better than last year where we didn’t have one at all.

More of that and I’ll be happy this week.

Agreed. I find he has troubles channeling his aggression and can be clumsy with his body during AFL games which results in free kicks.

He really, really needs to be able to take a contested grab to help contribute more.
