Just note that once it comes out from the boot, give it time to recover and for the muscles to heal. Easy thumb rule, x weeks from injury to getting out of the boot and the same x weeks for the muscles to get back enough strength to do what it was doing before.
And if your in a moon boot, yo once that comes off you will need to strengthen your toes for walking.

I broke my 5th metertarsel 6 years ago. I had a plate in my foot. It took 4 years for me to stop saying I want the plate out.
Did the same in Scotland in 2018, walked 10 k on it the next day and limped around on it for a week until I got home.
Thought it was a sprain. Got it x rayed 6 weeks after getting home because it was still sore. Broken in 3 places. No brains no feeling.

Mines near the base of the second metamarcel.
I think i probably did some ligament damage round my toes at the same time, because most of the pain was up around the ball of my foot and near the toes.
Spent the first couple of days hobbling round pretty much using the outside of my foot.

Sorry to hear SS.
I have fractured my fifth metatarsal four times now, twice on both feet over a five year period.
It has been incredibly frustrating being in and out of a moon boot over the years, and enduring surgery on one occasion in late 2022.
Since my fourth fracture in June 2023 I have been extra careful in my recovery. I was told by an orthopaedic surgeon that I would never run again.
As the months wore on those words inspired me like no other words before, and I was quietly determined to prove her to be wrong.
Equipped with my phone and paired Samsung Galaxy watch, I am now walking or jogging an average of 22 kms per day, which is about 27,500 steps daily or about 10 million steps in a year.
Although I am 65 years old now, I feel as fit as a fiddle.

My mental health is far better as well and I am also escaping from my wife (26 years of marriage), for about four hours every day.
Ha ha!

Most of the steps are undertaken in various parks, at a gym, beach or wherever. I am fortunate enough to be accompanied by other family members or buddies on occasions, which helps no end.

Best wishes
