NWM this year is the most important resigning I can ever remember the club having

We just must resign him but I have to say I’ll be nervous about it until he makes a decision either way

I don't expect him to leave BUT... It's a good time given clubs are expecting to be able to trade 2 year's of picks into the future.

It means we can push Adelaide for their 1st this year and in 2027, or Port's two future picks etc I think early days clubs will be a little more aloof with them as they try to load up before Tassie come in.

I have full confidence in the list management either way: He stays on a good deal or we get max value from the market.

I don’t want good value and starting again with a new player with unknown potential.

I want NAS.

And hopefully the club will not be caught napping on his next contract.
It should be a big one. One he can’t refuse.

If he wanted to go I would definitely be asking for an amount that they won't realistically agree to. Find me 3 early to mid first round picks. 21yo looking like an AA player, draft is a gamble that may not even pay off.

Much rather keep him.

Crows board have been chirpy for a while on grabbing him (and Pou, even mentions of Dodson after we drafted him lol), Port board show less interest.

Yep, set him up for life.
If we're doing it for the likes of Max King based on potential talent and projected output, then give NAS a contract based on actual (see provable) talent and real (see provable and consistent) output.
If I was NAS's agent, I'd lead with that comment. The precedent for such contracts has been set.
Make it feckin' rain Saints.

Hi Saints fans, I come in peace I promise! Firstly a shame about Brad Crouch. Never fulfilled immense talent mainly due to injuries. Crows fans thought he was another Dangerfield when we first got him.

Why am I here? Value your quick thoughts on following

Having a discussion on Crows board re your likely targeting of elite players with your reported war chest. My view is Saints have drafted exceptionally well in recent years and now a handful of likely/probable elite young players like NWM and Philippou.

Some on Crows board thing you would be tempted to give up these 2 star youngsters and swap them to get Butters end of 2025 with a Power trade (someone even suggested, I assume in jest, you may need to also throw in a first round draft pick..)

My view is NO WAY would Saints do this deal giving up both especially with Butters a Restricted Free Agent end of 2026. So wait one more year, pay the big $$ (1.25-1.4m? which is huge money but he is a top 10 player in the league) and get him for free re trade collateral

Your views? Assuming you really wanted Butters - most clubs would - would you entertain releasing these 2 too 10 ish type draft picks that are on the way to stardom for Butters end of 2025? Or wait one more year and see (with a risk of not getting Butters then) and try end of 2026?

I could imagine you releasing ONE of them for Butters perhaps with some draft picks chucked in but certainly not both.

Thanks for your time and any thoughts. Good luck for next year and see you in round one, cheers

PS re NWM, one Saints poster recently was quoted saying he wasn’t confident he would stay with Saints past 2025. My view is he will likely cost any team acquiring (eg Crows or Power) 2 x first rounders with perhaps a second coming back. He is going to be a real star that lad

Butters & f2* for NWM & Philipou, who says no?
* could remove

Port probably, they'd probably want a first rounder too

Saints say a definitive no IMO. Why give up possibly their 2 most likely elite young players for a player they can get for FREE trade wise if they pay big $$$ (which they have and apparently chasing others hard with massive coin once they are FA like Weitering reported 12m over 8 years - once he is a FA and not before). For Butters, if they wait one more year (end of 2026), then they have all 3, rather than just one player.

Going over same ground as previous so won’t repeat again after this post but as I have pointed out to other posters there has been NO MAJOR pre-agents deals done in recent years as it’s not in the players OR acquiring clubs interest. It’s only in Powers interest to do the trade in 2025. The fact no major pre-agent deals are getting done should tell you everything need to know about who wants to do the trade in general a year early (selling club) and who wants to do it at the right FA time (player and acquiring club). Power is not in the strongest position here. Butters is.

IMO Saints would be absolutely crazy to contemplate that under the circumstances you outlined.

Absolutely not. Nas is already very good/elite and I have a feeling Pou will very quickly become the same judging by his finish to the year. Both with attributes that are hard to come by.

Butters is good, but he’s not that good.

I come in peace too....

Anyone that thinks that's a good idea should be taken to a large field and made to dig holes and then fill them in again. It's about as meaningful a contribution to society we could hope they'd be capable of.

At least make them move those holes 50mt before filling them in. 🥴

Heya.... still coming in peace here... but can I just add...

If I was on a bridge and I was running away from a pack of rabid wolves and giant bears that were confusingly both hungry and really horny, and at the end of the bridge the Crows supporter that suggested we give up Pou, NWM and a first rounder for butters was beckoning to me, saying "quick sully... I'll save you... you can come and stay with me and we can spend the evenings safe in my cabin roasting marshmallows and having enthralling chats about life", I'd smother myself in gravy and run back the other way

Of course we wouldnt do that.

Butter isnt worth 3-4 first round picks., which is essentially what the combined haul would be if both players independently asked for trades.

Our supporters have already had to endure a trying period involving the name Butterss and associated drug impaired thought processes.

No more please

Butters Rozee and 2 first rounders still wouldn't get it done

I agree and if you follow the train of posts I am agreeing Saints get absolutely shafted by what some crows fans were proposing, pure madness

I'm a bit surprised that we're still looking at a mature ruck after taking another developing one in the draft. Assuming they're all uninjured, we'll then have Boyd taking the majority of the VFL ruck time with Heath, Keeler and Dodson left to largely play forward or back. That is unless Keeler or Heath can force their way in as a third forward/second ruck.

I didn't mind the approach of taking the training wheels off and letting Heath/Keeler take the responsibility if Marshall goes down since we're clearly looking at contending in 2-3 years rather than in 2025.
