Role changes and who’s ‘tearing up the track’: Developing Western Australian midfielder Ed Allan, by all accounts, is impressing observers at pre-season training, with premiership defender Brayden Maynard telling Foxfooty.com.au in December that Allan, as well as fellow fringe midfielder Fin Macrae, would play important roles in filling the boots of the injured Tom Mitchell. He said: “Ed and Fin ... in the whole pre-season leading up to Christmas, have been up there as two of our best trainers ... because they’ve played a lot together as a duo in the midfield, they’re playing together as a duo (now) in the midfield at training, and they’re absolutely tearing training down.” Prized recruit Dan Houston will assume a role across half-back, while Josh Daicos has trained mainly as a defender this season, according to the Herald Sun’s Josh Barnes. Untried 19-year-old Harry DeMattia has impressed on a wing and across half-back throughout summer. Maynard also sang the praises of forward-turned-defender Reef McInnes, saying: “Seeing Reef cemented in the backline and not being moved around in positions, he’s really training the house down. His physicality, his want to compete, his aerial (ability) — he has so many strengths ... maybe he was someone that needed to be behind the ball to be able to have the game in front of him.”

Injury latest:Tom Mitchell suffered a mild second metatarsal bone stress injury in December, requiring two weeks in a moon boot. Superstar Nick Daicos is dealing with a foot problem, while Jordan De Goey’s groin is still causing him some trouble. While excitement bubbles about what Houston will bring, the former Power backman still has one remaining match to serve of his suspension from late last year. Developing small forward Harvey Harrison will miss a substantial period of the season recovering from his ACL tear last season.

How come some of the match simulations (including ours) aren’t listed for live stream on Kayo? Does that mean we won’t get a live telecast?

If it’s not on kayo then clubs will have their own stream

How many games have they both played since Noble debuted in 2018? And how many times have they respectively been delisted?
Markov was picked over Noble three times (the finals in 2023). Noble was picked over Markov loads more time before in 2023, and almost every time last year. To say Markov is better than Noble is a real long bow.

Keep up

Markov was preferred in the GF because he's a bigger body - around 10cm taller and 13 kg's heavier, to combine with his pace. Unlike Noble he can break or hold tackles, and his size makes him a more flexible match up in defence,

We are not losing anything compared to Noble, if Markov can recapture his 23 form.

What, you’re going to dodge the question just because you were responding to someone else? I’m well aware of what Jelly Bean erroneously posted. This was a follow on to the discussion in general. If you didn’t want to answer, just don’t answer, take the snarky bullshit elsewhere Jack.

If, being the operative word, and history would suggest that ‘23 was an outlier for Markov.
There’s a reason that Noble has played so many games since his debut, and why he just got poached by a rival club, who coincidentally delisted Markov. He’s a far more consistent performer, and better player than Markov as a general rule, despite Markov’s very slightly higher, inconsistent ceiling.

The addition of Houston and Perryman will make it hard for Markov to get a game. I also think Parker is probably rated higher than Markov internally. Very handy back up though

Geez, I can't see Markov getting anywhere near the best 23 this year, unless we have injuries to 3-4 of our best midfielders and/or small defenders.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Markov break a tackle. He’s great at running with ball in space but I’ve never seen him be much use in traffic.

Nick Daicos was battling a sore foot leading into Christmas so he has been on a modified program since returning from the break in the hope the plantar fasciitis subsides. It’s likely to be managed in the early part of the season. Jordan De Goey is close to full training as he recovers from a groin issue. Tom Mitchell faces a long road back from his foot injury, but the signs since Christmas have been more positive than when he was diagnosed with a bone stress reaction in his foot. Lachie Sullivan has been in the rehab group too, but is not far from rejoining full training.

Q: What can a JellyBean do that you can’t?

You claim your spot early, through efforts on the training track which lead to opportunities in practice matches. If you produce you are selected. Whether you retain your spot depends on performance in matches.

Not easy if trying to displace someone, from outside the 23. But everyone is given the opportunity to show their wares (and attitude) throughout the pre-season.

Absolutely, but given that we’ve added two quality half backs to the list who will 100% be best 22, and also have Parker who was looking the goods late last year, it’s not unreasonable to say that Markov will have a much tougher time getting a game this year.

Markov was preferred in the GF because Noble’s form was ordinary in the lead up to it, as it had been at various stages throughout the season. Got howled down for suggesting he was vulnerable.

No snark, I leave that to you as you’re the forum expert given your proliferation of the stuff. Not interested in the discussion. Stated previously in similar discussions that they’re both flawed players and replaceable. Both had periods of very good footy. I’ll leave it there Mary.
