Yep, I've seen the footage, hence my question šŸ¤£

I was asking you because you've seen him up close prior to & after Xmas.. šŸ˜œ
I think he's slimmed down a bit. How much I'm not sure.
Maybe's just eaten too much over christmas lol

How is this possible

The new year has barely started and we already have:

- Nick with an injury that will hamper his season

- Mitchell with an injury that will hamper his season

- De Goey carrying an injury that looks likely to hamper his season

- Josh with a calf

Literally 4 of our most important players already compromised. Likeā€¦whatā€™s going on down there. These arenā€™t ā€œfreak accidentā€ type injuries like McStayā€™s finger or ACL. This has to be load/management stuff

Over training? Josh has had some issues with his leg/foot over the last 12 months. We know De Goey's issue.

I wrote around Christmas that I heard Nick had a hot spot in his foot from someone very close to the action. I wasnā€™t running with it being gospel just in case it was wrong but it looks like there is definitely an issue of some sort with him. The mail was that it wasnā€™t long term.
I have this mad feeling that Peter may have had this plantar injury and it was the first time I had ever heard of it. It was said to be career threatening at the time.

I remember stress fractures in his shins. Perhaps he had the plantar injury as well.

Not sure if it was just the training top JDG was wearing..but he didn't seem to look as slimmed down as he was prior to the Xmas break ..
Me too. I woke up on 1/1/25 and some bastard put a few kgā€™s on. It had nothing to do with the Lemon Tart, Pavlova, Italian style cherry trifle or endless Christmas pudding with lashings of cream at Christmasā€¦...šŸ˜‰

Pre-season training: January 10th. 9:30am.

It was a nice morning for training, though it did get quite warm as we headed for lunchtime and I struggled to find some shade.
I sat in my usual spot on the steps AAMI park side, though I did take a walk later on around the other end, briefly, but it was way too warm, and too many people lol

No Pendles and Checkers for a 2nd straight session
Mitchell, Perryman, DeMattia, Sidey also missing from training.

There was a few doing rehab/management work including Moore, Hill. The likes of Howe, TJ, DC did some running at various points of the session.

They started off with a yo-yo test. I heard this being set up as I was crossing the bridge near melbourne park. I initially thought it was some aus open thing, that maybe some players were doing a test lol Then I thought it was coming from aami park haha.

Most players participated apart from the ones on a specific program or in the rehab group.

They all did pretty well.
Ash (level 18.5) and Cox (19.5) were the first two to drop out and then Steene at the same level. Frampton and West drop at level 20. Schultz, Mcstay, Hoston, membrey, Reef at Level 20.5

Then Smit, Cochrane, Dean at level 21
Fin, Parker at level 21.5
Allan. Long, Ryan at level 22.5
Leaving three of them (IQ, Hayes and Markov) with IQ winning.

Some fundamental stuff with line rotations, some fight drills 1v1 for the forwards and defenders. Nick and Jordy helped them out by kicking the ball into F50/D50 to the contest.

Nick didn't do a whole lot. He did some running yesterday, but today was mostly on the stationary bike and then some kick to the contest stuff.

Jordy looked to be running well, progression. We'll see what he does next week and how quickly things ramp up for him, when he can get into full training.
Josh completed lots of running before going inside. Whatever his issue, I don't think it's too bad and by his running volumes, maybe only a week or so.

Lippa was very impressive as he played more in the thick of things. His follow up transition work, through congestion and then finishing his work moving up forward too. He did stronger, and no shoulder issue hampering him. He had a good year in 2024, hopefully he can go an extra step as with the older brigade coming to the end, he'll be one of the more experienced mids soon enough.

I was also impressed with Membrey and his experience was clearly on show with his lead up marking and contest up forward work.

Reef also reading leading patterns as he continues his development through the new role down back.
Charlie West and Hayes both were really good. West's hands were on show as he took some lead up marks, Hayes class, composure and inability to go into the contest no matter how frame was one that was impressive.
I noticed that Mcstay was mentoring West a little bit with positioning, giving him pointers. He'll be a great help for he kid over the next couple years.

Mcstay is looking prime. His contested marking and 1v1 is one of beauty, hopefully he is one that can stay fit this year, along with checkers -- who wasn't training.

Johnson did well in the 1v1 drills too, We know he has good hands, but this isn't anything new. It's the other stuff we hope he improves on.

They finished the session off with some match play, not full ground or even from centre bounce, but more like the mids/rucks were in a pocket, the forwards/defenders were in usual place though.

Daicos Snr had a knee reconstruction, and then had stress fractures in his feet. He also had a severe shoulder injury, which required surgery. I believe he didn't have the similar injury to Naicos....

If both Daicos boys are down early, then the kids get to play. At least we'll see more of what's in our future.
Daicos family are so professional, in Pendles way.
Let's hope... no need to panic for a few weeks...
For sure. Thereā€™s a bit of doom and gloom about the injury news but you know both are doing everything they can to recover.

This hopefully means Allan can have a bigger role in match sims which Iā€™m all for.

With the plantar fasciitis injury, that can be a reduced workload and rehab for a good couple of months. That is concerning.....šŸ«£

You only need to look at Tom Mitchell to see how bad plantar fasciitis can be. Usually requires a big reduction in load, a change of boots and about a million calf raises to bring it under control, or sometimes surgery. Our engine room is hugely diminished if all of Naicos, DeGoey and Mitchell are all impaired.

Perryman and Houston may get a lot more midfield minutes than they bargained for. Thank goodness we recruited them both.
