Feel the mids will be OK.

Backline felt alright. Turned around a poor start. Gibcus/Young/Miller doesn't fill me with joy (no Petty helps) but that was a solid showing. Young in particular showed up.

Big sticking point will be the forward line. Balta CHF works. Kozi deep just needs to create groundballs for Baker and Bolton. Green brings energy...MRJ or Cumbo off the sub bench and it's functional...

Like Brown, Young, Sonz. On the fence on Banks. MRJ and Ryan in trouble.

Round 0 setup off that looks to be:

Broad Young Gibbo
Rioli Vlas Short

KMac Martin Pickett
Nank Taranto Hopper

Bolton Balta Graham
Mansell GREEN Kozi Baker

INT: Dion Grimes Dow Ross
SUB: MRJ/Cumbo

EMG: Banks Naismith Brown Miller

OUT: Sonsie (susp.) Lynch (foot) Mansell (ankle)

MIA?: Coulthard, Colina

Kozi looks like a shrewd pick up.
won‘t be a star, but could easily be a 35 goal third forward.
Kosi when in form, fit and full of confidence can do great things. Its when he doesnt have those things that he struggles more than most. Some games he looked like a future start and others ... well we traded him. Hope he can find consistency with you guys, cos if he does then he will be a massive asset. gl to the fella.

One of the better threads I’ve seen on here in a while! Seeing the early melts then the rousing come back and excitement was beautiful!

Was great being there live. Really impressed by Campbell he showed plenty and has a big future along with Green up forward. Keen to see how much time Bolton plays in the mids when the big guns return. He’s a special player! Will kick 50 goals as a permanent forward

Hopper the X factor this year. Will be much better than last season! Can’t wait after that display. So fun to watch after conceding those first 5 goals. I know it’s a praccy game but they always smash us down there and to turn it around and pile it back on a near full strength demons bar Clarry/brayshaw/petty was glorious. Bring on the Flagpies before we March up to Dimma land and show the comp we’re here to compete and win!

Don’t reckon mrj or Ryan get anywhere near a game r0 tbh , coult and cumbo just returning from injury ,,,they’re young so could make some ground next few weeks

The biggest disappointment in yesterday’s game was Samson Ryan. He looked disintegrating and spineless with all the deficiencies from last year still there.
Would have liked a few towering marks , was out bodied ,,most of the time. TF we got Naismith will be more than handy

Sonz went under the radar but put together a very handy game and that was without any centre bounce attendances

We could of finally found that link up man that we have lacked since Lambo
Could be in a 3 way battle with Graham and possibly Ross for that high half forward role. Graham won't get much midfield time with Prestia, Dusty and Taranto back in the side. Sonsie has real class and he accumulates possessions, would be exciting if he comes on this year.

He’s lucky to take a chest mark Bo let alone a towering one. He gets to a lot of contests and in good position, but just either messes it up by spilling it or easily pushed of the ball. At one stage on the game a guy 20cm shorter than him bumped him and out marked him. I don’t like his body language as it looks like he’s not interested and intimidated by it all.

Stevie Wonders report from the Age:

By contrast, Richmond appear revitalised. Balta dominated inside 50, his aerial strength creating chances for his small forwards. With Martin, Taranto, Prestia and Toby Nankervis sidelined, the Tigers tried Thomson Dow in the middle, while Sam Naismith and Samson Ryan rucked. Ryan was impressive and the other two were steady. Rhyan Mansell will have scans on Monday after hurting his ankle.

Hahaaaha and did Dimma go ok as well?

Newman thoughts on some of our kids:

CHRIS NEWMAN ASSESSES SOME OF RICHMOND’S BRIGHT YOUNG PROSPECTS

THOMSON DOW
No. 21 pick Dow, now entering his fifth season: “He’s been really good. He has good lateral movement. He can win the ball, he is really clean and is dynamic and he can also get it outside. He has really good hands and he’s a great runner and he’s really diligent.”
KANE McAULIFFE
McAuliffe is a strong-bodied first year mid: “He’s really made an impression since he walked into the place. He’s built like a man. He’s a solid unit but he’a always got a note pad and pen and he’s feeding off not only the coaches but the older players. He’s one that’s really put his hand up. He had a bit of grunt and he’s a ball winner but he’s also got a good left foot and he will get an opportunity against Melbourne this week.”
SAM BANKS
The third year half back was a No.29 draft pick: “He’s a really good ball user and he has a high work ethic. He ca play wing and half back and he’s just a really diligent kid who can do a lot of damage. He has all the tools he needs to fulfil those roles.”
Third-year defender Tom Brown, a No.17 draft pick: “He plays in defence but he reads the game really well and he’s another good ball user. He has given himself every chance and he’s presented in great condition in the off-season which sets him up.”
TYLER SONSIE
The midfielder is a third-year No.28 pick who still needs to serve some of his suspension for a behind-play VFL strike: “ He’s an elite ball user and he’s just good at footy. IT sounds silly but he is creative with ball in hand and we feel like he has flexibility. He can do damage forward of centre as well as midfield and he’s had a taste of both this summer so hopefully when he gets back from suspension he can hit the ground running.”
SAMSON RYAN
Ruckman Samson Ryan has forced his way into the senior side: “He’s working with Ivan Maric really closely and all the rucks have done a lot of work on their actual craft. He works super hard and he is doing his aerial stuff with Ben Rutten. He recognises the importance of aerial dominance as a big guy so he’s got a lot of upside.”
TYLAR YOUNG
The second-year defender was outstanding on talls and smalls in 2023: “He is just super diligent and he’s trying to be hard to play on as well. He’s athletic for a big guy and I was surprised at the size of him but he moves really well.”
JAMES TREZISE
The mid-season pick made an impressive debut in round 24 against Port Adelaide: “He’s an intercept defender who gets from contest to contest. He’s cut his (long) hair so I didn’t recognise him but he’s a super kid and he’s got a lot of growth left in him.”
