Not the result but still a great year. 8 wins in a row and far exceeded expectations.

Something to build on for next year, have to keep improving. It's easy to go backwards in this competition but we have a great core of young players.

Realistically there is a ton of work to do if we ever want to catch the top teams. They better not get the deckchairs out.

North are taller and faster than us all over the park, and they win the ball in the middle. And they all have skills. Plenty of changes needed while we wait for our more talented players to mature.

Not the result your club or fans wanted but should be proud of the team, to reach a PF with the age/experience of the side was a sensational effort. We have a fair few of our side in the 50-100 game experience bracket and most I think have played a few finals campaigns so there was huge gap in experience.

Will get a harder draw next year given were you finished and there might be a step backwards perhaps next year but that exposure will help dramatically to evolve a defensive game plan that will restrict scoring opportunities in front of goal against the better teams more consistently. We were in the same boat a few years back, made a lot of inroads last year and we have been fairly consistent this year.

Hopefully Cuthbertson is right to go next year year, a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

A smashing, lets not water it down, great year but the gap between the top three and the rest is still large.

Will be better with further dev and maturing of the young players but we will probably need to recruit some more hardened big body types if we want to breech the gap quickly.

Lauren Arnell does a good press conference. Acknowledges we weren't good enough, no excuses but North is the best team in the comp and we can see the gap. She is still really positive and upbeat about what we did achieve and where we can improve. I can imagine the players while disappointed will keep their heads up with Lauren around and work to improve.

I’m going to refrain from the obvious comment and comparison.

Ok, so now we know......

Prelim pant sh**ting is a CLUB thing, as appose to a TEAM thing.

We were supposed to be eliminated last week. It was a really nice comeback.

North had already destroyed us in the Minor Round. This was coming. Take that as a lesson, really learn from it, and come back stronger next year.

The AFL team fails in actually learning from experience. Maybe our AFLW can...

Lets see if ex teacher Lauren Arnell is better at learnings from losses than you know who.

A fit Ewings, Lauren Young, Tahau and Cuthbertson could all be in our top 10 players if not top 5.

We could be a LOT better next year.
All four of them also have the physical strength and presence that we need to be competitive against a team like North. They would have made a huge difference.

Was a pretty poor performance. There is a genuine gap but not sure it should’ve been that much. That was an absolute smashing.

The positive is this a young team with players due to come back, so there is plenty of improvement to come but I also think the same with the men’s team contrary to popular belief. And if we are being honest with ourselves we lost in both men’s and women’s prelims to teams that were better than us.

I don’t think the sides are drastically different despite the narrative on here.

The mens team beat Sydney by 112 points by the way, before choking in the prelim.

North Melbourne's AFLW side beat us 42 to 6 earlier in the year.

Everyone was shocked by that result, meant about as much as non finalist north beating premiers port by 92 points in 2004 in the end.

Sydney were the most consistent side all year. I think all of Brisbane, Sydney and Geelong were better than us for most of the year. We deserved top 4 but that late season run of wins that most were predicting we would lose and miss the 8 definitely got our hopes up but the reality was that we just weren’t quite there all year.

Tough day for the girls , seemed it was pretty much a bridge too far and we we pretty much outclassed .
Still it was a great effort to get as far as we did through spirited and connected play . Not too many standouts today , p,Ayer’s tried hard but not too many ripped it up.
Think we need some more midfield class and power , Window will get better and Goody may be able to go in as she gets stronger . Pope was interesting, quite good in the contest , good pace but not quite productive enough
Odea had a strong year but she struggled today against Norths strong and classy forwards .
Borg was generally good all year as was Brooksby , a pity we lost Cuthberson early , her extra height and intercept marking was missed .
If Sholz starts to consistently hold her marks which I think she will she’ll become unstoppable.
Lamb was good for her desperation, a little down on polish but made up for it with hardness .
Syme shows glimpses of becoming a good player , possibly midfield with a stronger body and more endurance .
Saint was quite good and her best football is yet to come . Gemma was good , great to watch and Teakle showed good promise . .
Hopefully Lauren Young is ready to go next season , trade in a gun midfielder and we are well positioned for a good shot next season

I don't think the score was indicative of the gap in quality and skill of the players; sure, NM are individually better but it's the game style / plan. How often do we have overlap run, work into space and hit a teammate? The bomb the ball forward and try hardery for longery game plan won't beat the best teams. The girls busted their guts this season, and we have enough talent, need to utilise this talent!

Love the positivity, but we've over performed significantly this year, we're probably still a couple more years away from consolidating that growth into a squad good enough to win the flag.

We have not over performed we just have not been good enough against the best side in the 2024 competition. A lop sided draw helped us into the eight for sure but the wins in the finals against other contenders were good. There is still a way to go but we have the players to do it. Put Lauren Young, Indy Tahau, Janelle Cuthbertson and Hannah Ewings (if she gets her act together) into that current side and we have a real shot at it next year.

You're seriously not comparing the men's and women's results and taking into consideration the lists, experience, stages of development, coaching etc? Wow. Just wow.
