The best thing about this team is that nobody - least of all, us - knows what we’re capable of. Although we set a new ceiling for ourselves last week, and then topped that this week, our upside is still huge. Who knew that swapping Dowrick with Saint (more or less) would make Dowrick the match winner while Saint (formerly a stay-at-home FF) created a whole lotta extra drive out of the middle? And Scholz found another gear in that last quarter, but who can say how many more gears she’s got?

Our teenagers not only pulled their weight, they put out their best performances and were among our best players. They have obviously never been told that “finals are scary”!

I know we shouldn’t make comparisons to our men’s players, but stuff it.

Abbie Dowrick and Matilda Scholz went into last week’s final under injury clouds. Goody, Brooksby and Window are first year players. All of them have played tough, hard, never give up finals. All of them have done inspiring things at difficult times. All of them are winners.

Our corresponding young male stars have not played one top-5 afield final among them. Rozee and Butters have had 9 trips to the rodeo each. JHF has now played five finals. I’m sorry, but that’s why I’m so pissed off with the three of them. They didn’t bring their absolute best in any of those matches. Sure they may have done quite well in the Hawthorn game. But they didn’t excel. They weren’t irrepressible.

Hats off again to our ladies. Saving the best for last week and the final quarter last night. That’s where reputations are built. Not against bottom teams halfway through the season.

Go get ‘em PAFC-w.

Ashleigh Saint is one seriously good football player. Quick, clean skills in the air and on the ground and elusive. Usually makes something very good happen when around the contest.

Also competes very hard aerially. Rarely gets outmarked and excellent at turning opponents inside out.

Arnell deserves a lot of credit. She’s a damn fine coach. She’s also an impressive speaker - articulate and inspiring.

I stopped listening to Hinkley a long time ago but I could listen to Arnell every day of the week

Lauren is terrific. She is a successful player and understands winning. While that doesn't always translate to coaching, she knows her footy and can lead and inspire players.

There were some ordinary comments around her coaching when things weren't going well but she has brought this team a long way in a very short time and deserves the success we are all enjoying.

I don’t think the addition of Merrett to the coaching set up, has been given enough credit!

Lauren wasn’t the reason for our disappointing performances in past seasons. The main reasons were the lack of talent and fitness levels that weren’t up to scratch. Not surprising for a new team.

Look at North Melbourne. They brought in a damn good coach in Clarkson but have been poor since he started because they don't have the cattle. Even with early draft picks they finished 2nd bottom last year with 3 wins. Clarkson will win games if he has the cattle.

I look at Lauren in a similar way. Give her a good squad of players and she’ll win games and that’s what we’re seeing now.

Where's Papa G? Does he hate women that much?
His beef is the quality, which is hard to argue against, but I’ve noticed with the Port games I’ve seen recently. Higher scoring and fast paced. Quality getting better

My criticism was more re the timing of the reappointment of Lauren this year as opposed to Lauren herself. Prior to the season was not necessary albeit only until the end of 2025. This administration has an extremely poor record of their assessment of coaches and extending prematurely; consistently where Hinkley is concerned. In saying that, I'm so happy and proud of the girls and particularly Lauren.

Watched a few minutes of Offsiders and happened to catch AFLW segment, and blUnderwood said that our last quarter was the biggest 4th quarter come from behind win - 22 pts - in AFLW history.

Lauren on the players

"I thought we went to a whole new level in that last quarter," Arnell said.

"We've got a few players who, in different moments this season, have sort of had an attitude of 'not today, I'm going to do something about this' and that's a little bit of confidence and maturity.

"It's exciting stuff, and I'm just so pleased for our whole playing group."

Last remaining female coach after the Dockers were eliminated yesterday.

It is apparent that more actual footballers are coming into the league over the mixed sports women that launched the league. There are hints of really good quality footy being played.

The next generation of footballers should help elevate the games standards.

At one point it was 49 inside 50’s to 13 early in the last quarter, and hawks had a shitload more possessions. I was only following on my phone at the time and it felt like the dam wall was starting to break at 3/4 time but they just completely flipped the script in the last.

It appears to me that they are a supremely fit team and the young legs really shine in the last quarter, it’s been obvious in the last 3 games that they can run over the top late in a game. Very similar to the men in 2013-14. And on the flip side the hawks looked completely gassed late.

I guess the question is can we match a team right from the start in that energy and intensity?
I think north being the best team in the comp all year will well and truly put us away if we give them that many looks as what they did the hawks. They could’ve easily been 10 goals up at 3/4 time.

I thought it was just me, but during their off-season it looked like on social media that the girls were training extra hard before pre-season even began!

I don’t pay attention to any other AFLW teams so I had nothing to compare what our girls were doing to, but it looks like I was right.

Definitely seem to be running a lot better than the opposition in late in games.
