'cool' probably means more 'why not'. Not a ringing endorsement, although I'm not averse to Harbour View or Heroes of Waterloo...altho that requires a fair hike from Circular Quay.

Agreed. That's what I meant by some good joints in the back streets of the Rocks. Circular Quay is a hole.

For those like a joint or some fun pills - cops have drug sniffing dogs around Central Station.

Darling Harbour and King St Wharf are definitely within lockout. Pyrmont Bridge Hotel, whilst *just* up from DH, is not, as of August 2015 (when I was last there).

You're right some establishments in Newtown have voluntary lockout, the Marlborough does, not sure about others as haven't had a big one for a while.
I would be up for hitting Newtown after the game, probably best to regroup at the Brewery and make a decision.

I assume there is no march to Zeno Tzatzaris Park as the AFL would look very stupid if the 237 GWS members who march are out flanked by 8,200 Dogs fans. It would be a shame not to make them look stupid so what time would you like to start entering the ground and we will work back from that

The unofficial march will be from The Brewery Bar to the stadium.
5 to 10 minute walk.

Newtown has the best, most unpretentious bars and pubs for both before and after. Just need to allow for travel time

If they're running special event trains (I don't know if they bother for Spotless games), you can jump off at Redfern Station and walk/cab it up to King St in Newtown. 20 minutes/5 minutes respectively.

Plenty of good pubs & bars in Redfern these days, too, right next to the station. Arcadia Liquors, Woolpack Hotel, Lord Raglan Hotel, Tudor Hall, The Dock, Noble Hops. Lord Gladstone in Chippendale is 10 minutes from both Redfern and Central stations. Prefer them to Newtown and the City, tbh.

Sounds good let's get the word out and get everyone at one of these!

Can we sort out a time so we can get word to the non Bigfooty audience? Is 4:30pm too late?

Yes that is too late.
You want to get in to the ground and make some atmosphere, be there when the players come out for their 1st warm up at 4.30pm

So I don't know about anyone else, but I'd suggest my group would like to leave the pub at 3.45pm to 4.00pm. If everyone leaves at the same time we will be going to the same gates so it may take a little while to get in.

Now we mortgaged the house for flights, tickets and accom, a thread for catching up either via the Western Bulldogs activities. I'll update this as we get more info.

The @VL30J Fish Feed
  • About midday at the Sydney Fish Market on the Tram Route a stop or two after the Casino.
  • The Market has about 20 cooked fish vendors and a bottle shop with seats on the harbour.
  • Dry Rot has some great tips in this post
  • You can't beat the flame seared scallops on the RHS just past Doyles (which has faded recenty)
The "Dougie Hawkins" wing Ferry Service F3
  • This is NOT the fastest method - The train is faster
  • There is a 14:07pm F3 ferry (& every 30 mins).
  • It arrives at Darling Harbour at 14:20.
  • A bus meets the ferry and expect to get to the Brewery/ ground at 15:30 with a bit of a walk.
Bigfooty meet-up Saturday afternoon at The Brewery, Homebush
  • Map
  • This is the Novotel, it will have expensive beer in probably plastic cups but it is close and big.
AFL/Western Bulldog events
  • The AFL will have a "game zone" in the precinct
  • There appear to be no current plans for the Bulldogs. Can anyone work out a route, probably about half the length of Fed Sq to the G.
  • I assume there is no march to Zeno Park as the AFL would look very stupid if the 237 GWS members who march are out flanked by 8,200 Dogs fans. It would be a shame not to do this
Post game
  • If the Brewery worked before then should work after for a debrief
  • Newtown (5km west of Sydney CBD) has a lot of pubs, bars and restaurants. Try the Newtown Social Club, Bank Hotel, Town Hall.
  • The CBD/Kings Cross are probably not the best places to head out to. Remember Ricky Ponting?
  • The Rocks - Better than the CBD but you still need to be safety aware.
  • China Town off George Street has some good food and some really bad hotels. You need to keep your wits about you around the CBD.
  • Little Thai - Another option in CBD - I prefer Satang Thai Exclusive a bees wanger from central - HUUUUGE plates.
Hi VL30...we are arriving Friday and are staying Jamison St in Sydney CBD...are you are aware of the easiest and quickest public transport to ground?

Walk 10 minutes to Wynyard station
Catch train to Lidcombe station and then change train to Olympic Park.
Will take about 45 minutes and is free.

OK 3:45pm it is although GWS are doing this at the same time and we need to respect them.

Redfern is good, those are fantastic suggestions.

As for trains, a few days ago Transport NSW had only the Lidcombe-Olympic Park 'sprint'; now they've added ONE train from Hornsby via Epping, and ONE from Central-Redfern-Olympic Park at 4:03pm. Even though the latter would be close to folks staying in the City, I suspect the time is too late for most BF'ers' liking.

http://www.transportnsw.info/en/tra...nt-Article/data/2016/09/giants-v-bulldogs.xml
  • Special supporters trains will run from:
    • Hornsby at 15:37, stopping all stations to Olympic Park via Epping and Strathfield.
    • Central at 16:03, stopping at Redfern, Strathfield and Olympic Park.
  • You can also catch a train to Lidcombe Station then head to Platform Zero for a direct service to Olympic Park, running every 10 minutes until kick off.

Hi, free in general or just for people with gameday tickets? Cheers.

Righto - I will be at the Brewery about 12pm then. If anyone thought that would be too early don't worry, it isn't - I will be there! My stumble to the House of Plastic will commence about 4.00pm.
Agreed on both fronts.

Option for getting to Newtown after the game tomorrow. Enough time to celebrate the win at the Brewery, see who is keen and jump on a train.

My flight is at a sparrows fart on Sunday morning. If we win there's a fair chance me and my mate won't be sleeping. We have a place in bondi lined up but considering the shenanigans that occurred Friday we will be open for kickons anywhere.

Shattered I can't make it up to this game.

Your Friday sounds a bit like mine, arrived home at the same time the Mrs. was coming home from night shift (somewhere around 7am).

If the boys have two more wins in them, I'll be missing for a week

The reverse bulldogs march back into the city over the bridge for kickons after the hawthorn game was one of the best doggies atmospheres I've been a part of. On par with the VFL granny win and libbas last game.
