I think that’s what Young helped fixed but with the bonus of also being able to hurt going the other way. I’m definitely sure he’s behind those 4 but maybe there is a role on balance, particularly of Johnson doesn’t pick up slack on that end.Maybe. On one reading he could be Taylor Adams, goes OK but shunted to other clubs by more stacked midfields - but our midfield is short of Collingwood 2023 or even GWS mid 2010s.
On another reading how sure are you he's the 5th or 6th best? Serong is clearly #1, Brayshaw has a couple of years experience on them all, and then there's the rest you name that are all big potential but no actual output yet. What you're saying is we have all seen Johnson and Young do more special things as individual players then Erasmus - no doubt. But that doesn't mean you can buiild a premiership midfield without someone that does the unglamorous grunt work. Who's it going to be to step up and do that? No *er did it last year.
Winning a premiership requires at least 30 players. Even if he is not best 22, he will still play a lot of games. He's not the only victim of this squad developing great depth.I know this is divisive but im very concerned for where Ras ends up. Concerned because he seems like an awesome kid and I’ll always have admiration for someone who works has hard as he does but watching Simpson and hearing JL firm on getting him on ball in a few years, I don’t know where he fits.
I can’t see him getting midfield time ahead of Serong, Young, Brayshaw, Johnson and yes, Simpson (kid is a legit AFL mid with amazing hands and speed per the intra club) in two years.
This is strangely an even bigger problem if they get McDonald IMO because it means they are all in on midfielder Jackson.
Kid needs a second position asap.
He’s definitely got a 2nd position in him but I hope they start to develop him more in oneI think he's got a 2nd position or even more. He's too good to disappear off the map. I predict he'll be decent as a half fwd if he can't get into the middle full time.
He'll still get stints in there tho.
I've been wrong about players before so I'm not going to put a ceiling on him. Still early days and could be anything. His biggest issue at this stage is time. I think he is low down in the pecking order of midfielders based on current output and won't be a consistent best 22 player unless we have injuries or he improves his output (well within the realms of possibility). The question is if he is willing to wait? Also if we can land someone like Chad Warner he should be traded.I know this is divisive but im very concerned for where Ras ends up. Ras and a first for GinbeyWCE will be keeping close tabs on Raz

For sure. I just want to see him get games really, whether it's mid or fwd. Banfield has to take the fall for him imo. He’s definitely got a 2nd position in him but I hope they start to develop him more in one
Our forwardline is still the weakest area of the ground. Our 3 talls are the pillars of the forwardline and now we need to find 4 more talented players to complement them. Playing players out of position because there's no room for them in the midfield (looking at you Switta, JOM, Ras, Banfield) is a bandaid solution. Doesn't help that we have unproven players in Emmett and Sturt. For sure. I just want to see him get games really, whether it's mid or fwd. Banfield has to take the fall for him imo.
I understand but I think Ras could be a bonafide fwd.Our forwardline is still the weakest area of the ground. Serong would have to have one of the quickest, most skilful set of hands on field in the current comp. Is that what you mean by ´shovel’?Inside mids with skill: Young, Johnson and Brayshaw. Maybe O'Meara.
Pure shovels: Fyfe, Serong, Brodie and Erasmus
90%+ of CBA should be 2 from group one and 1 from group two.
Serong cleaning up his disposal could be a massive improvement on last year for us right there. That'd be one of the bonuses of having Fyfe out there, to divide the opposition's attentions and relieve the pressure on Caleb.Serong would have to have one of the quickest, most skilful set of hands on field in the current comp. I think it’s becoming more about him wanting to stay rather than us wanting to keep him, if he’s Stuck behind Switta and JOM for the forward/mid role and Simpson overtakes him in the pecking order, he may well request a trade to a club he’s a walk up start for.Erasmus has been played off the half forward line a few times.
But the deeper the midfield the better, plenty of room for him via rotations and/or injury. The coaches have also stated they hold Erasmus in high regard for a midfield spot and a heap of time for him to establish his career.
The best midfields are playing way beyond 3 players in a game. Seven would be around what you want.I think it’s becoming more about him wanting to stay rather than us wanting to keep him, if he’s Stuck behind Switta and JOM for the forward/mid role and Simpson overtakes him in the pecking order, he may well request a trade to a club he’s a walk up start for.
He acknowledged himself his best bet is a as a forward, so he’s in direct competition with all of, Sturt, Emmett, Switta, JOM, Banfield and Simpson for 3 spots, 7 into 3 clearly doesn’t work, so someone is going to miss out. You could argue that Switta, JOM and Sturt are already B22 players (JOM being pushed out of the midfield by Fyfe & Young) so Emmett, Ras, Banfield and Simpson have to push past one of them for a game, or hope for injuries.
Yeah some guys are rubbish at the lower level then great at the higher level. I recall Brandon Walker being a bit like this too.Did anybody else find it weird that he looked so ordinary at Peel, so disappointing in fact. Then comes into league side and totally blitzes it. That goal he kicked out of the air was brilliant, something from nothing. Then goes back to Peel for GF and is terrible. Appreciate he did have stress fractures but what is going on there? Obviously didn't stand out in the match sims this year either??
He kicked 4 goals in the Colts GF.I understand but I think Ras could be a bonafide fwd.
Seriously, that we won't know until the season begins. There are different choices now, and maybe some are more exciting than we imagined. Our forwardline is still the weakest area of the ground. Was talking about positions in the forward line, if we’re talking mids, it’s Serong, AB, Fyfe, young inside, Johnson and Sharp outside, that’s 6, Switta and JOM can both play Fwd/Mid, I noticed they are trying JOM on a wing as well in the last intra. So potentially that’s 8, Ras and Simpson need to push past them for the Fwd/mid role, or Sturt and/or Emmett for a fwd role. The best midfields are playing way beyond 3 players in a game. Seven would be around what you want.
Erasmus will be fine, he'll turn into that solid midfield workhorse that tackles and blocks and smashes in, which every successful team has. If he was picked up at pick 30 not pick 10 we wouldn't even be having the conversation - he's never going to be elite but he'll do good
