I think that’s what Young helped fixed but with the bonus of also being able to hurt going the other way. I’m definitely sure he’s behind those 4 but maybe there is a role on balance, particularly of Johnson doesn’t pick up slack on that end.
Still think if they don’t give him a second position to start off with that he’s going to find it hard to get a spot. Simpson also looks more than happy to do the grunt work

Winning a premiership requires at least 30 players. Even if he is not best 22, he will still play a lot of games. He's not the only victim of this squad developing great depth.

He’s definitely got a 2nd position in him but I hope they start to develop him more in one

I've been wrong about players before so I'm not going to put a ceiling on him. Still early days and could be anything. His biggest issue at this stage is time. I think he is low down in the pecking order of midfielders based on current output and won't be a consistent best 22 player unless we have injuries or he improves his output (well within the realms of possibility). The question is if he is willing to wait? Also if we can land someone like Chad Warner he should be traded.
Brayshaw or Serong could have been in a similar position if their ages were reversed. Players who don't have a second position can struggle to make the 22.

Ras and a first for Ginbey
Adds a much needed left footer to our midfield, lets Ginbey play with Fyfe (obviously never gonna happen tho but its wishful thinking)
I don't think Ras goes to WCE unless he is delisted, the 2 clubs don't seem to trade
For sure. I just want to see him get games really, whether it's mid or fwd. Banfield has to take the fall for him imo.
I really hope Ras makes it for us in a hybrid HF/Mid role.

Our forwardline is still the weakest area of the ground. Our 3 talls are the pillars of the forwardline and now we need to find 4 more talented players to complement them. Playing players out of position because there's no room for them in the midfield (looking at you Switta, JOM, Ras, Banfield) is a bandaid solution. Doesn't help that we have unproven players in Emmett and Sturt.
I understand but I think Ras could be a bonafide fwd.

Serong would have to have one of the quickest, most skilful set of hands on field in the current comp. Is that what you mean by ´shovel’?
Erasmus has been played off the half forward line a few times.
But the deeper the midfield the better, plenty of room for him via rotations and/or injury. The coaches have also stated they hold Erasmus in high regard for a midfield spot and a heap of time for him to establish his career.

Serong cleaning up his disposal could be a massive improvement on last year for us right there. That'd be one of the bonuses of having Fyfe out there, to divide the opposition's attentions and relieve the pressure on Caleb.

I think it’s becoming more about him wanting to stay rather than us wanting to keep him, if he’s Stuck behind Switta and JOM for the forward/mid role and Simpson overtakes him in the pecking order, he may well request a trade to a club he’s a walk up start for.
He acknowledged himself his best bet is a as a forward, so he’s in direct competition with all of, Sturt, Emmett, Switta, JOM, Banfield and Simpson for 3 spots, 7 into 3 clearly doesn’t work, so someone is going to miss out. You could argue that Switta, JOM and Sturt are already B22 players (JOM being pushed out of the midfield by Fyfe & Young) so Emmett, Ras, Banfield and Simpson have to push past one of them for a game, or hope for injuries.
The best midfields are playing way beyond 3 players in a game. Seven would be around what you want.
Yeah some guys are rubbish at the lower level then great at the higher level. I recall Brandon Walker being a bit like this too.

From what I could see of the last intraclub scratchy Erasmus started forward and Johnson was on the wing. They were fairly quickly rotated to bench and then into midfield.
I’d expect that to continue. Johnson spend time on the wing and Erasmus HFF. What I did like about the brief and not particularly successful forward stint for Fyfe was having that bull in the forward 50 clearances to feed the ball out. I saw a bit of that from Erasmus on Fri and goals were created.
JOM also seems to be rotating amongst HFF, Wing and short stints on ball. Then there is Brodie.
It feels to me there will be specialist roles like Amiss FF, Sharp locking down a Wing, Serong rover but there is then a large number of players rotating between wing, HFF and onball.

Was talking about positions in the forward line, if we’re talking mids, it’s Serong, AB, Fyfe, young inside, Johnson and Sharp outside, that’s 6, Switta and JOM can both play Fwd/Mid, I noticed they are trying JOM on a wing as well in the last intra. So potentially that’s 8, Ras and Simpson need to push past them for the Fwd/mid role, or Sturt and/or Emmett for a fwd role.
Knowing our brains trust and their fear of how inexperienced we are, I think Switta and JOM will get the nod over Ras, Emmett, Banfield and Simpson.
Essentially JOM takes Schultz’s spot and Fyfe takes JOMs spot.
I don’t agree with it, think we’re better off having a pure forward in Emmett with Jackson and Switta making up the 7th forward position when not in the Ruck or midfield.
