In the contract extension interview he said he’s ahead of schedule and wants to play round 1, few months of preseason to get through without any hiccups though.
Good 18 year olds can play games in their first season. It isn't always top ten picks either.
I wouldn't be ruling Simpson out just yet. His skillset is quite unique for our list imo. He's a mid with speed and goal sense that might start his career forward. That describes no one else on our list except maybe Stanley imo.

There are actualy normally quite a few first year players that can make an impact across the league in their first year. Simpson could well be one of those players by he end of he season and perhaps early on if we get an injury or two. I'm quitely confident Simpson will play sooner rather than later.
It’d be interesting to see how many draftees play in their first year tbh.
People act like it’s top ten picks and mature agers and everyone else needs a year in the state leagues. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s over say 30% of other National Draft draftees that debut year one - higher (closer to 50%) if talls are taken out of the equation.
Of course most of those players play less than ten games but that’s still not none.
It’s true but there’s quite a difference between getting a handful of games halfway or three quarters of the way though the season as a “taster” of the big time, as opposed to making an actual impact in your first season. Serong, young, Brayshaw and Cerra are the only recent draftees that came in as u18s in the last 5 or 6 years and had a material impact in year one.
This years draftees are likely to be in the same bracket as people like Erasmus, Henry, Amiss, Western, Carter, in their first year. Play a handful of games for sure in 2024 but be in and out of the team.
If Simpson, murphy or Delean are starting R1, we are in a spot of bother.
Actually another guy that had a good impact in year one was Treacy, but even still he was on the bottom 4 players in the 22 in his first year.
Don’t disagree there’s a massive difference between 5-10 games and 15+. Only making the point it’s overstated how little first year players play when in reality there’s probably 20+ across the league that play a fair bit - it’s literally how probably half this board builds their fantasy/supercoach team each year.
I don’t think we’re necessarily in trouble if Simpson or Delean start round one even if we’re more likely to see 1-10 games for the season from them than 15+.
