Was wondering about Kerr's worth in the draft and though id put together a bit of a list of players who have gone for around what I believe kerr to be worth/trade value. As i did not spend hours comparing each player/worth/trade value at time/draft rules ect.. in no way is this meant to be a comparison of players (this includes kerr compared to anyone on this list) It is more of a general knowledge type thing, it took me about 5 mins (so i have not been wasting my life on it), and is purely a cut and paste job so if i have fked up please let me know (prefer a polite reminder rather than a "I cant believe you put this there omg what a tosser" ect..). Thankyou.

Chris Judd and Pick #46 to West Coast Eagles for Josh J. Kennedy, Draft Picks #3 and #20

Chris Tarrant To Fremantle for Pick #8 and Paul Medhurst (pick 56)

Josh Carr to Fremantle for Draft Picks #11, #27 and #45

Nathan Thompson to Kangaroos for Draft Picks #10 and #26

Brad Ottens to Geelong for Draft Picks #12 and #16

Nathan G. Brown to Richmond for Draft Picks #6 and #20

Lochlan Veale to Western Bulldogs for Mark Alvey (pick 18) and Draft Pick #6

Barry Brooks to St. Kilda for Draft pick #6 & #31

Peter Everitt to Hawthorn for Draft picks #6 and #22

Des Headland to Fremantle for Draft picks #3 and #19

Kane Johnson to Richmond for Jason Torney, draft picks #2, #18 and #32

Clinton King to Richmond for Steven McKee and Draft Pick #7

can't believe some of those deals, most have been a total rip-off, add Travis Johnstone to Brisbane for pick #14

Yeah, if i had a bit more energy i would of put in what clubs eventually got for their draft picks. It evens some of the trades out, and makes others look like total wastes. Trav to brisbane doesnt really fit in with the kerr type trade as WC is looking for a bit more than #14 pick.

A lot of these trades are a part of a bigger trade including Clinton King and Bo Nixon.

We traded pick 7 and Nixon for pick 10 and a 3rd rounder (and maybe a swap of late rounders). We used that 3rd rounder to get Chad Morrison.

We didn't get pick 10 for Nixon.

Out of that list Nixon, King, McKee, Veale don't count because they are crap and part of a bigger deal. K. Johnson, Carey and others were part of the same trade so some context is needed. Bell was also part of a complex deal was he not?

Otherwise it's a good indication of what clubs are willing to take. Let's not forget how high Carr was rated at the time. Probably similar to Kerr. Headland (at the time and he was younger than Kerr), Brown and Everett were probably the other players closest to Kerr in value at the time they were traded.

clubs should be forced to read this before agreeing to any deal

Exactly, yet it still occurs.

Opposition suppporters will always undervalue others/overvalue their own (us included), yet it still occurs.

If Kerr goes this year, contary to the laughable suggestions that get posted on BF, WCE will get a fair bit.

That Kane Johnson one is bad.

It's not as bad when the whole trade is included

We basically downgraded our 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks or something.

For example we traded pick 2 (which was Pick 4 originally, then Carlton lost their picks so it changed to pick 2 AFTER we traded it) but we got back pick 12.

I can't remember the other picks we got back.

From memory it was Torney and picks 4, 20 and 36 for Kane Johnson and picks 14,30 and 46.

Then all the draft picks came forward by two spots when Carlton copped their salary cap penalty.

Adelaide then used picks 4 and 20 to get Carey - now that was a bad deal for the Crows but a nice one for the Roos.

Well going on tat WCE should get for Kerr
Kerr + #36 for Heath Shaw+#9 from Pies.
Kerr + #36 for picks 5 + 23 from Ess
Kerr + #20 to Port for Picks 4+22+ Danyle Pearce
Kerr + #52 to Rich for Picks 8+24+Rance

3 way Trades
Kerr + #36 for Pick 4 + 22 + Nathan Krackour then Port forward on Kerr + 36 to Pies for Pick 9+ Didak.

Gibbs to Port for Picks 4+22 then
Kerr+picks 20+52 to Blues for Picks 4+6+Andrew walker
(Got Judd Cheap By not giving us No 1+3 ur not getting another 1 Cheap)

4 Way Trades
Lenny Hayes+ Pick 30 to Sydney for Pick 11+Nick Davis then
Pick 11+Armitage to Brisbane for Pick 7+T.Selwood Then
Picks 7+13+T.Selwood from STK to WCE for Kerr+ pick 36
So
Saints get: Nick Davis, Daniel Kerr, Pick 36 for Hayes picks 13+30
Sydney Get: Lenny Hayes and Pick 30 for Pick 11+ Nick Davis
Brisbane Get: Pick 11 and David Armitage for pick 7+ Selwood
Wce Get: Picks 7, 13 and Troy Selwood for Kerr and Pick 36.

T.Selwood+ Pick 23(Bris) to Cats for Prismall
Pick 7+Prismall+M.Clarke(Bris) to Wce for Kerr + Pick 20
Kerr+pick 20(Bris) to Pies for Didak+ Picks 9+25
Bris get: Didak+ Pick 9+25 for Selwood, Dalzeill + pick 7
Cats Get: Selwood + Pick 23 For Prismall
Pies Get: Kerr + Pick 20 for Didak Pick 9 +25

My two favourites :p:

Barry Brooks to St. Kilda for Draft pick #6 & #31

Wayne Carey to Adelaide Crows for Draft picks #2 and #18

However, this was discussed in another thread a few days back, and basically it is relevant to consider what the picks traded ended up being before dismissing the concept of trading for established players...

Just considering some of the higher profile and straight-forward ones (noting I am ignoring the less consequencial bits to some of these as many of the trades are more complicated than a straight pick for player):

Pick 4 for Wakelin, Pick 4 ended up being Luke Livingston (PLAYER WINS)

Pick 8 for Daniel Chick, Pick 8 ended up beng Luke Brennan (PLAYER WINS)

Pick 2 for Wayne Carey, Pick 2 ended up being Daniel Wells (PICK WINS)

Pick 11 for Josh Carr, Pick 11 ended up being Adam Thomson (PLAYER WINS, although jury has not totally finished deliberating)

Pick 6 for Barry Brooks, Pick 6 ended up being Salopek (PICK WINS)

Pick 6 for Danny Jacobs, Pick 6 ended up being Kepler Bradley (PLAYER WINS)

Picks 12+16 for Brad Ottens, Picks 12+16 ended up being meyer + Pattison (PLAYER WINS)

Pick 10 for Trent Croad, Pick 10 ended up being Ryley Dunn (PLAYER WINS)

Pick 12 for Matthew Bode, Pick 12 ended up being S.Burgoyne (PICK WINS)

So, in this random sample 67% of occasions going with an established player worked out best. However, this is a random sample and really doesn't prove anything either way except that the suggestion that "trading a first round pick is sheer stupidity" is not supported by historical evidence. If anything, the suggestion is that trading picks is not a bad strategy - after all, the Swans record is pretty overwhelming...

Wce Get: Prismall, M.Clarke + Pick 7 For Kerr+ pick 20

That one I think is pretty fair, Geelong maybe getting dogged but Primsall will probably go anyway.

People worry about trading early picks away, but they are no guarantee of any sort of decent player, with Kerr you know you will get around 4 amazing seasons.

A Hawks, Pies or Dogs I think with young sides that are just a step below Geelong should really look at him. He could just take them to another level which they need to be at to reeally compete with the cats. Kerr and Mitchell, that is some sort of clearance power!

Even Cats, with such a deep list, why not pick up Kerr and just take your midfield to crazy heights.

Kerr and Staker for Hawkins (cats so many forward options, and Hawkins might be cut after being in a squad but missing two premierships) and Primsall. Cats fans may not be happy with that but Hawkins and Primsall probably won't be in your best 22 this grand final day.

If you have your Kerr match winning doubts, check this vid:

A threeway I like is;

Eagles: Loose Kerr and Staker/Nicoski; Gain pick #4 & #10
Pies: Loose Pick #10, Didak and Toovey; Gain Kerr and Staker/Nicoksi
Port: Loose Pick # 4; Gain Didak and Toovey

That seems fair to me

FFS, can people stop talking about Port losing Pick 4 and gaining Didak??

It's making me sick just thinking about it. I will be ropable if we blow Pick 4 on Didak, no matter how much the Collingwood faithful think he's worth....

Pick 4s:

07 C.Morton
06 Leunberger
05 J.Kennedy
04 Tambling
03 Ray
02 Tim Walsh
01 Polak
00 Luke Livingston

Its a stupid argument because there are great players that go past pick 4 that could have been picked instead, but what I'm trying to say is high picks don't always mean great players. If you get Didak you know exactly what your going to get - a match winning forward who is only what, 25,26 years old?

You would feel average if you passed up on Didak and got any of those above apart from maybe Leunberger and Morton...

Ray, Kennedy and even Tambling sw that will be good players for there clubs but um Didak is still >>> then the, all

I would be happy with port to give up pick 4 and a WA player for Kerr atleast then we know excately what we are getting with our pick 4 ....

oh and Wayne Carey to Adelaide Crows for Draft picks #2 and #18 is just lololololololololololol

Tony Delaney to Fremantle for Scott Lucas and Matthew Lloyd

You are an Idiot
It was more Delaney+Kickett+Riley for Pick 4(lucas)

Matthew lloyd came from a supplimentary draft which every team went into to pick up a 16 year old uncontracted player for losing out players, Fremantle didnt have a chance to pick up any of the kids who went into this draft
