Project Troy Menzel not Tom Boyd

With the whole scenario of trading with GWS for Tom Boyd. I was wondering what would we be willing to give up to get Troy Menzel to our club. Should we target him???
I think yes.
I think we need one more talented/creative midfeilder of that mold and I think he is perfect. All we need is then a couple clearance inside mids to build our engine room. Luckily they are a dime a dozen and can be developed easier than other positions.

My scenarios are in no particular order:
1) 1st round + 2nd round
2) 1st round + 2nd round + Mitch Brown
3) Simpson (Throwing it out there but I don't want this one and don't think it would ever happen)
4) A 3 way trade with Carlton, GWS and us

Cant think of anymore right now. Had a few other just can't remember. Mostly want opinions and ideas though.

Why it would benefit our team
We can offer Troy, Johnson as his mentor and not Betts (who says he (Betts) is worth $600,000 a year)
With so much Talent on our list, I'm sure we will have a little bit of trouble salary cap wise. Troy seems like he would take a pay cut to stay with his brother.
With our club track records, we will balance out paying overs with development and Carlton not using the picks as effective as us.
Good kid for our culture.

So what do you guys think? Go for him? What would you trade?

The thought I had that I think would get the deal done was Simpson. But I like Simpson and don't want to loose him. Averaged 3rd most hitouts in the 6 games with less game time than the other two.
But why I think they would take it is because they have him as ruck, which lets Kruzer go forward and not strain his knee in the ruck. Then that lets Waite go down back where he should be.

It would take an extreme deal to get him , possibly P1 from GWS would do it but id not be surprised if they wanted more.
Cant see any realistic scenario that would see him at Geelong next year.

It could potentially happen if Carlton were chasing Boyd. Can't really see how it happens though.

Boyd -> Carlton
Menzel -> Geelong
Varcoe + CFC 1st pick -> GWS

Don't think that'd get it done but something along those lines.

yep, maybe...but same was said about Koschitzke, Fraser, Gibbs, Watts, Kreuzer, Swallow and they haven't exactly taken the game by the scruff of the neck and become the best.

Carlton definitely want Boyd and I'm sure they will be willing to trade the farm to get him. Boyd is also a huge Carlton supporter apparently, and has reportedly even named his dog "Juddy" (yeah I know poor dog). Boyd will most likely be better than Hawkins and Vardy, but those guys are still very capable and will provide so much potency for us for another decade.

We don't need Boyd, we need a big defender and another classy midfielder. Is Menzel a classy midfielder, or a makeshift midfielder by necessity? To me I always thought that he was more of a forward than a mid, but I'm sure he'll be a SJ type who can play both, such is the skill that he possesses. How do we get Menzel? Do we really want him over our more pressing list needs?

Personally I think it's crazy to pass up a talented KPP if they are available, especially when our up and coming talls are speculative as future players. That said, I don't believe in selling the farm for a single prize cow so Boyd would appear to be out of our reach.

What is the fascination with the younger Menzel? Never understood it at draft time and even stranger now, he is a Carlton player.

Is it trying to find something that was lost with Daniel's terrible injuries?

Look at it from the blues end. They are short on young talent and have a lot or older talent on the slide. Probably not likely to want to lose good youth.

That said, if its good enough then they might take it - so how much do we want to lose?
With Wells ability to find value I'm not sure he is worth 2 picks. However, with our list, giving up to picks to get one player will help for sure

There is plenty of young talent in the league, not doubting he can play but the likelihood of him ending up at Geelong was slim at draft time and even slimmer now.

He gets more air time on here there some of own players?!?!

The way he's playing now I doubt anyone would want him. I think Varcoe is a bit over valued to be honest. To get anywhere close to getting that pick off GWS they'd want A grade talent in return, not our discards. We'd have to trade someone like Kelly or Mackie or Bartel.

I think the thing to do would be to start picking the eyes out of this list. Gold Coast poachers have a few coming out of contract over the next two years. GWS will be rich pickings too.

He's not yet a prize cow, nor even a calf, he's still in the test tube.

His value may be if he doesn't turn out that great we could use him for spare parts on the earlier model.
