Pro's

I think Jarrad Grant, Easton Wood and surprisingly Wayde Skipper will play in the seniors this year

Con's

None realy we lost but our preperation is 3 weeks behind theirs.

Honorable mentions

Eagleton and Higgins worked tirelessly

Dishonorable mentions

Sloppy foot skills but it is early in the season.

Pro's;

For me I see it as 3 categories, Seniors, Developing and Rookies;

Seniors: Gilbee was very good, Boyds second half and Johnson was fairly good
Developing: Higgins looked very good in middle, Harbrow was also very good, Addison should also have good year
Rookies: Grant's first half good, Wood done some nice things

Cons;

Wight and Skipper are not up to AFL level even in preseason, spuds who will only get games if injuries occur.
Gia got plenty of the ball but was sloppy, but coming off lay off he will get better as preseason goes on.

Basically I'm thinking Higgins will really step up. Imagine how good he'll be when he stops practicing on his left for the pre-season and starts using his preferred foot a bit more.

Pros-
J.Grant showed some very good signs
Higgins seems he will have a good year in the midfield
Wood looks like Kerr (maybe its the two wrapped shoulders...but i don't know)
No one got injured
Gilbee looks sharp and in good shape....like him bold!
Harbrow played very well
This game alone raised millions for the bushfire victums....enough said.

Cons-
C.Wight is useless
Minson did not show any improvements as a forward
We lost, but who cares its NAB cub

Other than that, thats about it

Grant showed a fair bit in patches, still a fair way to go with his development still and his kicking on goal as well as remaining involved in the game for longer periods but that will all come with time.

Harbrow is a little gun and will be a valuable contributor to us for the coming years all over the field let alone up forward. He is too valuable to leave out of the first 22 you would think.

Higgins will be a solid contributor and improver for us this year and onwards, Ward also but perhaps to a slightly lesser extent.

Easton Wood also impressed me in patches, had a good first quarter, went a bit quiet after that but is an impressive athlete and has a fair go at it, the team showed some faith in him early by looping some kicks to him in the middle of a pack, didn't mark any of them but it'll come with time.

Concerns are still over guys like Wight and Skipper for mine, and Eagleton played his usual game of working hard doing a good thing or two and then throwing in a couple clangers that make you cringe.

Morris and Lake very good again as usual, Lloyd only got the one touch for the game pretty much.

Pros

No Injuries.
We didn't have to play in Darwin.
We were involved in a great cause, raising much needed money.
J. Grant took a few nice grabs and did a couple of other nice things.

Cons

None really, we can now focus on Round 1, 43 days 18 hours and 36 minutes to Fremantle at Subiaco.

Wight and Skipper are not up to AFL level even in preseason, spuds who will only get games if injuries occur.

I thought Skipper did quite well in his limited time on the ground. He did make a few errors but really who didn't? The misses in the 3rd were much more costly than any mistake Skipper made. Stop trying to find that one particular player to spit venom at week in, week out.

And what exactly does he add to the team, please tell me....he is a C-grade ruckman, doesn't have enough skills to be a utility type and doesn't do enough as a forward, he has no position after 7-8 years on an AFL list, I am just saying that IMO he does not cut it as an AFL footballer

Pros:

* Jarrod Grant - he showed some really positive signs tonight with his ability to read the game.

* Brad Johnson - just knows where to position himself.

* Shaun Higgins - looks suited to a midfield role.

* Easton Wood - seemed undaunted & has a bit of toe.

Cons:

* Poor conversion for goal.

* Lindsay Gilbee's grubber kick out just before the siren that resulted in a Bomber's goal.

* Brian Lake - his 'brain fades' are becoming a recurring nightmare.

* Cam Wight - really well beaten by Paddy Ryder & gave very little at all.

Pros

- The younger players played well
- Higgins and Ward look like they'll have good seasons
- It was good to see the No 7 jumper kick the ball more than 20 metres
- Lucky we played Essendon and not a side that will make the top 12 part of the ladder

Cons

- Is Hudson ever going to be fit enough to play more than 10 minutes per quarter
- Minson is not a forward
- Whoever is kicking coach should be sacked
- Lake forgot to get his brain out of his locker prior to the game starting again

I think he could be a pretty valuable player this season. He came along pretty well late in our horror year in 07 but unfortunatly missed nearly the entire pre-season in 08 and just couldn't get back in. Minson position is not cemented so there is a spot for Skipper as a backup who is also quite mobile which could be a real benefit to our team he can also be used up forward like Minson but has a bit more pace and IMO is better overhead than Big Will. For team structure though it works better to have Will down there because he is much stronger and able to bring the ball to the ground for our smaller forwards.

I'm not saying he's an automatic player in the starting 22 or a part of the ongoing structure of the team. The season is long and player like Skipper are needed to fill in the gaps if something happens to either ruckmen who would we have to replcae them, Wight? Cordy? Skipper is clearly the best option out of those 3 at this point.

Pros -

Grant's game was very encouraging. Some excellent work off the ball too.

I'd like to see Wood play senior footy this year. Reminds me a bit of Griffen in the way he backs himself. Can find the footy as well.

Ward was excellent when he was given a chance in the middle.

Higgins was impressive.

A good effort overall considering who we were without.

Cons -

Nothing too major. Missed a few gettable goals but overall I'm happy.

Out of our 3 tall rucks playing tonight Skipper was by far the best, Minson was clumsy and Hudson went missing again.

Johnno looks as good as ever, Higgins looks a mature player, Grant showed he can be a target, all the rookies had a crack, eagle showed he's got more to offer. Overall fitness is good for this time of year. Harbrow looks good.

Con's, need more defensive pressure, bombers looked quick off half back. Kick straight at goal guido!!!

How about Jarrad!

I'm worried about Cam Wight. He seems nice but I suspect his future is a bit grim.

For the rest of the game we laughed and laughed. The Bombers fans were falling over themselves. The roar when they won was hilarious. Their season is over now.

Pro's Hudson looked worse than Skipper. Kids all showed a bit. Nothing game not much I could point to really. We got some fitness and much needed match practice. With Wight at CHF and Minson at FF Grant is able to have an impact with him being the third tall.

Con's Wight looks like a first year player.

Pros
Grant- looked very good off the ball and he did good things and in the contest

Higgins- Ready to stamp himself on the competition and he seemed to take more of a leadership role

Harbrow- Electric with ball in hand seemed to create a lot from nothing

Easton Wood- Looked fantastic, definite prospect. Good pace and seemed very well built in the core and shoulders

Johnson- Another 50+ goals this year

Gilbee- Seemed to work a lot more through the midfield and up the ground

Cons
White- Didnt do much, didnt seem suited to the forward role.

Minson- Somebody teach him how to lead, its no good to stand in the square and yell for the footy.

The skills werent great but the intensity was there, fairly happy with the hitout.

Pros:

Jarrad Grant- Looks very promising. He needs to work on his goal-kicking under pressure but once he's mastered the art of that, he should be our own quick version of Fev. Reads play amazingly.

Shaun Higgins- Hoho, what a giant improvement. He's now part of the key midfielders club at the Dogs, his performance was VERY impressive.

Callan Ward- Similar to Higgins. Still needs more work than him, other than that, I was still very impressed.

Easton Wood- Surprisingly good. Hard at the ball, I think he can do a good job playing in the season.

Matthew Boyd- Just a nice performance right thar.

Cons:

Cameron Wight- A stack worse than I expected. He's completely useless.

Minson- He was pretty good at tapping but he's an absolutely useless forward who can't lead.

Hudson- Boring player, too slow and lazy.

Harbrow- Just my opinion but his skills were a bit shabby.

So basically your post is completely off topic as it has nothing to do with tonight's game.

Pros: Lots of them, but in particular Grant. From limited game time he could have easily kicked 3 or 4. On a number of occasions beat an experienced, accomplished and much stronger opponent (McPhee) both in the air and on the ground. Not yet the Messiah, but I have him pencilled in for the forward flank or pocket in Round 1.

Cons: BF snipers

For the rest of the game we laughed and laughed. The Bombers fans were falling over themselves. The roar when they won was hilarious. Their season is over now.

I was thinking the same thing myself.

The Bombers fans sitting in front of me in Aisle 33 were making fools of themselves, they were celebrating like it was a final.

Usually I'm on the edge of my seat and I'm hoarse by half-time in the H & A season, but last night I was relaxed and just took it all in.

It's always good to have a win, but after what's happened this week, it puts footy into perspective.

Pros: Grant, Higgins, Ward [Huge potential]

Cons: Cam Wight, Skipper [Williamstown for the season]

Agree with everything there.

I left the game pleased, but the carrying on after the game made me wonder whether we'd just been knocked out of the finals.

I'm looking forward to seeing us as close to full strength as possible in round one.

I was pleased as well, especially when you think we were missing Cooney, Griffen, Hahn, Murphy, Aker and the rest.

I had a huge smile on my face when Grant took those grabs in the forward line. Not a bad little debut match.

A little surprised by all the Hudson bashing???? Is this just based on tonight?? I thought he was a big factor in our climb up the ladder last year.
