Victoria needing maximum points to be any chance of not pissing off the NRL, Queensland need them to get off the bottom. Of most interest to Australian selector Merv Hughes will be Shane Watson’s performance – if he can bowl at the end of the game he’ll be seriously considered for the forthcoming tours, while they’ve surely seen enough of Noffke and Hussey. Victoria had a bad week last week but it was largely the side that has got them into next weekend’s final – Nick Jewell’s opening partner remains in doubt with Mash doing little to suggest he’s any better than Quiney or Klinger, is Blizzard a chance? The pace pecking order seems decided – the first three fit from this list – Siddle, Denton, Nannes, McKay, Harwood, Pattinson, Wise – will play, or not with Harwood rested and an extra-cautious approach being taken with Siddle and Denton. For the third time in Adam Crosthwaite's four year career, the Victorian selectors have switched the keepers in the closing stages of the season as he comes in for his first game of the season in place of Matthew Wade, just as he took Peter Roach's spot in 2004-05, and Nathan Pilon took his in 2005-06

The Bulls have brought in Nathan Reardon to take Jimmy Maher’s place. He’s found form at the right time to get an opportunity ahead of middle order options Craig Philipson and Lee Carseldine and former Pura Cup opener Daniel Payne, with Clinton Perren and Nick Kruger recalled after the withdrawal of Greg Moller with concussion and Martin Love who's found yet another strange way to miss out on playing cricket. However it’s no great advantage as Ben Rohrer will tell you that March form doesn’t mean a lot at October selection meetings. As first picked Reardon is likely to get one of the two vacancies, most likely the opening spot leaving Perren at 3 and Kruger 12th man unless Broad is ruled out with his dodgy ankle, which would leave Matheson as drinks waiter. Shane Watson to step up to 4 and Aaron Nye to slot in at 5 or 6, wherever new skipper Chris Simpson doesn’t want to be. Daniel Doran got smashed again but with the bottom of the barrel already being scraped they haven't found another quick to stick in there and the leggie will get one more game for the Bulls before they surely chase a few fringe bowlers in the off season to support Bichel, Noffke, Swan, Brant and Rimmington next year.

Good to see Siddle back in the lineup, hopefully he can continue to rack up the wickets.

Not in the 13 mate. He is being rested again. Pattinson is in the 13 along with Wise, McKay, Nannes.......and McGain of course.

Wade is not playing either. Not sure why!

Dropped for Crossy.

Good to see Nannes back in the line-up - hopefully he can get back among the wickets again

Looks like a pretty good side. :thumbsu:

Pacemen Dirk Nannes (foot) and Darren Pattinson (ankle) have been recalled, while the workload of fellow quick Shane Harwood is being managed and he will not play against the Bulls. Gerard Denton (ankle) and Peter Siddle (shoulder) were not included in the squad of 13.
Denton's ankle is fine, he's playing club cricket for Footscray Edgewater, along with John Hastings who has also recovered from his injury (finger) so our bowling stocks are looking good for the final. Anyone know if Siddle will be back though?

Silly buggers, they said that Siddle would definitely play tomorrow

The Bulls have made a further three changes to the squad they picked earlier in the week after paceman Chris Swan and batting pair Greg Moller and Martin Love were all ruled out.

Swan has a groin strain, Moller is recovering from concussion after being struck in the head while fielding at short leg in the win against South Australia earlier this week and Love has been struck down by a sudden attack of Bell's palsy.

That causes paralysis in the facial muscles and while he is expected to recover shortly, Bulls medical staff erred on the side of caution by ruling him out for the final match of Queensland's season.

In come opener Nick Kruger and batsman Clinton Perren, while Nathan Reardon and paceman Ben Laughlin are set to make their first-class debuts.

Queensland: Chris Simpson (c), Scott Brant, Ryan Broad, Daniel Doran, Chris Hartley, Nick Kruger, Ben Laughlin, Ashley Noffke, Aaron Nye, Clinton Perren, Nathan Reardon, Shane Watson (12th man to be named)

Martin Love just can't take a trick this season.

Channel 10 said Perren wasn't playing... or was this decision made recently?

He bowled during the week and would be a certain starter if they wanted him to play. Maybe they are saving him for the final......

Not sure why they dropped Wade. His performances have not been terrible and Crossie form is not that great either.

Hopefully they go back to opening with Quiney as Mash is not up to it.

True. Suppose to be fine, sunny and 28

But thankfully, it will clear in 20mins

QLD all out 191

McKay pick of the bowlers with 4/35...

Vics are 1/0 at stumps. They sent Darren Pattinson out to open as nightwatchman. Went out on the final ball of the over. Did his job protecting the batsman, leaves the Vic 1 down to start tomorrow.

OMG - That was the most boring day of first class cricket I have ever seen.

I don't know what Qld's intentions were at any stage. Not only did they just hang around and wait until they went out, they did not even try and hit the bad balls for 4.

Even though Broad made 75, not at any stage did he look comfortable or like he was batting well.

The Vics bowled some great lines, but were not punished at any stage when they staryed. Even Watson, who can bat, had no intention of doing anything other than hanging around.

Saw 2 of the best catches I have ever seen - the first down leg side by X off McKay, and the second by White at 1st Pole which nearly killed him. He also wouldn't have had much of a chance to see it with Crossy diving in front too.

Lucky we didn't have our first string bowling attack or they would have made 77 again, and looking at their bowling line up, some of our batsman should be able to get themselves nice and in form.

McGain bowled awesome and should have had 2-3 wickets. Not bad for a first day on a green top.

Still - lucky I didn't pay to get in. Otherwise I'd be asking the Bulls for a refund.

I only stayed for 2 hours, and I'm glad I left to goto the Carlton/Dogs game

actually I really enjoyed the bowling today

Macdonald, makay and nannas all swung the ball, with the lush pitch and outfield helping the shine to stay on the ball. They bowled very very well, with only patterson and nannas giving away runs to short wide balls.

Not sure where QLD is going with their batting line up. Reardon (spelling?) looked ok in his first outing and broad toughed it out but when you have simpson coming in at 6 its a bit of a worry. It's also a worrying that you only counter attack when the number 9 and 10 come together......

Should be a beauty to bat on tomorrow, the pitch it playing well and the outfield is fast.

Need to post a big first innings and wrap up this match as soon as possible. Imagine NSW chasing 200 on a dust bowl needing to win to host the finals and two young spinners showing us what they have! All comes down to pressure, win this one quickly Vics and you NEVER know what will happen up at the SCG
