Add Walters efforts again. Could have iced the game and missed some other sitters. Also can't kick 40m anymore with that fluff in the last Q

He doesn't add a lot of pressure, only a nice inside 50 kick, but he's not getting enough of it cleanly to scare oppositions

Needs to kick goals or the cliff is coming

Can't kick from 40m anymore from your sample size of 1? He had a quiet game sure, but I wasn't expecting the knives to be out so fast.

Geez I hope they use out 3 x 1st rounders this year on goal kicking forwards.

We'll probably go full Freo and draft another 180cm midfielder though.

Treacy was strong in the marking contest. Young really rounds out the midfield nicely, needs to take a ping at the goals anytime he is within 65m.

Glad MJ had a great game, he's going to be such a weapon if he can keep it up

An example of role defining perception I think. He is being played out of position because he has a big future ahead and it's better to expose him to AFL level as much as possible over him winning a Sandover Medal at Peel.

We'll be in such a strong position for the long term if we supplement this young core with three more first round pick talent, particularly more forward talent. Our history shows a huge trend for drafting success - and trading misses - so let's not try to defy history, use that great draft hand. Point is, don't throw it away on Logan McDonald and/or Baker (unless we can somehow get either by not parting with that hand)

I never usually look at the running stats on the afl site, but was really surprised to see Serong right up there for distance and speed.

Looking at his body shape, he’s not exactly the lean mean Sharp or Freddy body shape.

Modern Freo game plan relies very heavily on our run (and likewise the running ability of the opposition).
Hence, I now regularly look at the AFL tracker of Freo and our opposition to gauge our chances (we did a total of 264km vs Richmond's 258km). NB: our worst running performance this season so far is easily vs West Coast a fortnight ago.
That together with a team cohesion stat I use which counts the number of 50+ club game players we field in a week (we had 13 today, I think Richmond had 11).

I suggest do not expect too much next week against Sydney. As far as those two stats go, Sydney is currently Elite in these areas. They just beat GWS (an extremely fast running team) by 280km vs 273km this week with 18 players having played over 50 games for Sydney (plus another 3 with plus 50 career games in Adams, Grundy & Jordon).
That is, I expect Sydney will hurt us with scores from turnovers.
If we beat or are competitive with Sydney, then we are really doing better than I believe we are at this stage of our build.

The coach actually called out the umps for once having a go about the treatment of Amiss.

"I've got big concerns about how he's been treated all year," Longmuir said of Amiss after the game.

"We've gone to the umpires asking for a bit more protection for Jye. He had concussion a couple of weeks ago against West Coast and then missed last week obviously with that concussion.

"Some of the treatment he got behind the ball today… I feel like he's been manhandled at times throughout the year and, you know, we need to look after him."

Amiss Q2 16:50 min remaining, thrown to the ground in a marking contest. No free.
8:50 remaining in Q2. Amiss blocked of the ball (wiped out with the defender not watching the ball), so he can not get near the contest.

Will watch the 3rd and the 4th quarter later tonight.

Edit: Another 3 or 4 times in the 3rd, he was pushed or went to the ground before the ball got close. Was simply not allowed to contest the ball. A few times so far away from the ball, it was not shown on TV.

4th quarter another clear push, which cannoned him into a Richmond player in front of him, after his opponent gave him a clear push.

Only really watching for it in the 2nd quarter. How many more were there?

Longmuir was correct to call it out. Umpires need to do better, he is consistently getting targeted by teams, and will be spent by half way through the year.

I don't think we got the better of the umpires, I just think Richmond is a dirty side who consistently push, hit people late and they are lucky they don't give away more frees. Baker is brilliant at a late hit, but he would give away 20 frees if he played for us.

One of the marks Treacy took in the last the Richmond defender just lined Amiss up and blocked his run quite forcefully. Should have been a free kick.

Richmond is in the worst place you want to be with your list, where your age and experience profile is cratering but you still have to churn through your experienced guys. They're about where we were 2017-18.

To be fair they have quite a few best 22 on the sidelines don’t they? Or are they all getting to the end as well? Certainly Dusty is a shadow of what he was. Still handy but I’d say Fyfe is going better, admittedly having missed a lot of football while Dusty was winning Norm Smiths for fun in his peak years.
