QAFL 2020

Can anyone confirm this is actually true ??
If it is I’m shocked that Clint Watts would put him into the list (I had a higher opinion of Clint than him playing Lule Hodge). Surely he’s only training to help with some knowledge.. the points He would take wouldn’t be worth playing him he’s Not getting Any younger ..

I reckon you’d be in the vast minority on this topic. Luke Hodge would be an awesome addition to any playing list at qafl level.

With AFL club lists getting reduced next year it’s a big chance that the lions and suns will have to use 2 NEAFL clubs as their reserves ... aka Southport and Aspley .. Redland into the QAFL so all those ex Redland players either head south or stay at Redland in the qafl..

Why would they stay at Redland (or Aspley) if they are playing against their own former club in the same competition with the same points cap and same salary cap? Would think most players would go back to where they were recruited from IF Aspley and Redland wind up in the QAFL. Or seek higher level opportunities if they are up to it and thats where they want to take their footy.

I believe that there’s 1 club that’s taken on around 6 NEAFL players .
There’s then rest who’ve got upwards of 10 . Short term thinking will ruin any clubs culture and see some loyal players leave because they have been shunted by a NEAFL bushranger..

clubs recruit with caution .. those great young players you have could be Lost to a club that shows it’s got faith in its system and it’s culture and nature’s talent ..

I think there’s only maybe 2 Or 3 clubs that are trying to stay loyal to its original group while the rest are going for broke to win a Mickey Mouse Cup

Every club appears to have behaved differently, but there are all sort of issues at play in the background. Some clubs might appear to have taken on 10+ NEAFL players, when in fact most of them might have been juniors or former players at that club. Other clubs might have chased the best available players regardless of origin and gone 'all in' and then there is probably a fair bit of 'in between'.

One thing is for sure, not many clubs would be paying these blokes and the ones getting paid would be playing for 'unders'. I highly doubt Luke Hodge as an example is getting paid at all! (not that he is NEAFL)

Guys like Cameron going to Broady and Boston going to Grange are probably on a decent wicket, no other reason to not go to their home club that is closer! However, I bet its still a significant haircut to what they usually get to chase a bit of leather.

You are delusional. Luke Hodge is the best and most highly decorated footballer ever to set foot in the QAFL. Its a massive deal and great for the entire competition, not just Morningside. They are lucky he decided to live nearby when he moved up, so the moment his boy started playing there they would be absolutely crazy not to be in his ear about coaching and/or playing there.

Jason Cloke played at Broady last year, he is older than Hodge and isn't even in the conversation when it comes to the sort of career he had, but its widely accepted he had a positive impact on that group and was a ahndy player for them. No disrespect to Cloke, but you could get him AND both his brothers and they still don't compare to Hodgey!

Hodge is only 36. He is a 4 time premiership player, 3 x Premiership Captain, 300+ gamer with 2 x Norm Smith Medals. There is not one single negative thing about him playing QAFL footy, players will look forward to playing against him and with him, no matter what jumper they wear. I know I'll be going to Round 1 Morningside game purely because he might be playing!

I don’t have a club I align with so I suppose I don’t see it from an internal perspective as much as others ..

I assume most people on here are are either players, coaches or committee members for which I am not .. I like to travel around and watch games especially being in Brisbane I hope to see a few games or morningside ..

I wonder how hodge will play and manage media commitments

I was there when the coach introduced him as "a training player" 2 weeks ago. Was kitted out in training shirt etc. On Thursday night (last week) trained in brand new boots.

Great for the club. Cant imagine why anyone would attack Clint Watts for encouraging a Legend to be involved on field and at training with his large group of players and young up-and-comers?

Probably should have worded that better .. clints a really nice guy and I didn’t want it to relfect
Badly on him at all

Hopefully they announce stage 3 tomorrow so proper training can commence.
I know Vic has them spooked but no reason not to open things up here as there’s been virtually no cases for a month

Its actually going to be a case of duty of care if we cant soon - can you imagine starting on July 11 without any contact training leading up? Would be ridiculous, esp for the women leagues. A physio's delight.

I would say that he will play when he can - which compared to other years could be a fair bit. It sounds like it would compromise the side but tbh,as others have already mentioned, he is as big a name that has entered qafl ranks and considering the sort of bloke he is (or allegedly is!) there is only upside. Unlike possibly some other guys who get parachuted in, you would think that even the bloke who makes way for him would grudgingly accept it. His presence around the place will be phenomenal. And it looks like he is going to train which is fantastic. Great result by the Panthers. Very good footy club.

I think with the recent changes today it will see Lions on the road for at least 4 weeks at a minimum if not 6 weeks.

So I think Hodgy all of a sudden just got a bit more time on his hands, let’s just hope he does decide to have a kick as would be awesome for the entire landscape of QLD Footy.

Your boy would be a bit star struck by it all! Not sure anyone at Panthers thought they were getting a player of his quality down there this year!

Definitely lifts training standards with players like Hodge, Bastinac and Payne trotting around.

I think all clubs will definitely benefit from having NEAFL Players back as can only help training standards and accountability.

Down south a similiar thing is happening with some 30 Ovens and Murray players going to the Canberra comp , Riverina comp , and Farrer comp.
Makes for some stronger teams and standards like up here.

Well if there not cleared by today
They can't go anyway

Clearances are extended until end of July.

Interchange permits beyond even that, players who have had their competition cancelled can basically go wherever they like on a COVID Permit.

He'd probably be as wary as anyone about taking someone's spot, especially this year
That may be true, but I don't agree with the premise. Hodge on field is going to 'give' more to the group as a player directing traffic, than on the sidelines with a small 'backs coaching' role. The player that misses out wasnt pushed out by Hodge, as much as he was pushed out by 5 other backs that were better also..

Speaking to media on Tuesday, Ms Palaszczuk said that after careful consideration, a strict new restriction will be put in place on Victorians from Friday July 3.

“The border with Victoria will remain closed and will be strengthened...tougher measures will apply from Friday, July 3,” the Premier said.

“Anyone who has travelled from Victoria, including Queenslanders, will be prevented from entering or will have to quarantine at a hotel at their own expense for two weeks.

“We just can’t risk removing border restrictions for people coming from areas of Victoria right now.”

The Premier said other states – including residents from Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Northern Territory and ACT – will be allowed to enter Queensland from July 10, 2020.

I've been told he will be playing forward.
