QAFL 2023 Season

btw my old grievance still stands. Grange's crowd doesnt feel like a footy crowd. It feels more like a random wine bar crowd that just happens to be located next to a football match. Even today, when they forcefed their grog squad free booze, they were hard-pressed to notice there was a match on.
Been to Grange heaps of times. Always found their supporters vocal with their team. Great viewing area in front of the bar. Your intelligent insight can only be based on one game. I'll take note next time I'm there to see if their supporters have changed.

Feel a bit for Noosa and his week, been a tough season for them and now they have to travel to Aspley on the rebound….

Cats v Redland will be good
Yeah certainly been a pretty bumpy ride that as u said doesn’t get any easier this week!Morningside far too good, the lions vfl side having a bye certainly made them stronger( be nice to have that occurrence now and then) and our skipper being suspended for a bump nobody saw didn’t help our cause. We Will keep whacking away and hopefully win a couple more on the way home!

Lagging Behind,,,
I was noting his overall contribution and accolades and playing in a ressies Premiership side certainly is a accolade as the Ressies are a huge part of a club
Thanks for clarifying Stuyd.

Searle is universally respected, and rightly so. However you know that senior and ressie premierships aren’t clustered together.

I'll just stop talking because pretend football people are not football people - so bye bye idiot. I'll just talk about what I saw.

I am gonna guess PBC didnt bring a good game. They've clearly won good games. Grange were strong but no way spectacular. Some goals were flukes.

If this is 5th and 6th in the finals, then .., well just do a four ...
Love reading through these but this is my first post. Just would like to add my 2 cents.

I think grange were nearly at their best. Dominant defensively and showed great pressure. Of course Bailey Gordon going off in the first quarter hurts them but they still held their own in the middle. Not sure about what you meant by some goals were flukes. They kicked 18-18 and a lot of those misses were very gettable including 3 from right in front. If your talking about the goals from Daniel Bowles then I think you'd be mistaken because they are well in his arsenal. In saying this, palm beach didn't show much fight after the second half and struggled to move the ball the whole game so your right in that regard.

they're all Burleigh Juniors, but Broady did well to pick them up for 2023

Kalani White has been at Broady for a number years now and playing U17’s this season. Addinsall and Murray came across from Burleigh this year to play Colts.

I think if QAFL clubs were much more open about this sort of information though it might stop the ill will between some clubs towards the QAFL club. It actually doesn't take much to do - a statement on the junior club's web site, a letter to their admin, a public comment of some sort. Small act leads to a lot of good will being generated and the QFA club suddenly feels like they aren't just being bulldozed on a regular basis. Obviously there needs to be some sort of time frame that defines these players having been at a junior club but coming across for colts is an obvious one.

Good if Sherwood do this consistently but possibly all QAFL clubs could follow suit.

I would invite you to read the 10+ senior debut announcements we've made this year, every single one acknowledges their junior club, usually we also tag them so they can share the info (which some do, while others disabled our ability to tag them 🙄).

In several cases, we've also invited their junior club president and/or coach to present their jumper, which they've been thrilled to do.

Pretending every QAFL player came from your u8s is pointless, not beneficial to anyone and would suggest the system is broken, which it is not.

Correct.

I think we've had 6 debut in the Seniors in the last 3 years that came from the Cats.

3 or 4 from Wests, some of whom went from Cats to Wests before us.

A few Darling Downs lads and Jimboomba/Park Ridge have supplied some good talent.

Jags have sent a few over in recent years and their President presented the jumper to one only last year, and many many Kenmore boys over the years have come over.

One thing I'd also say is there are more Sherwood Juniors playing QFA at other clubs, then there are kids from other clubs playing QAFL Footy here. It's a 2 way street!

Good point about the 2 way street Thommo. Sure the top local juniors head to a QAFL club (as they should) but plenty of QAFL players being ex juniors or otherwise flow back to local clubs. It’s basically just players finding their level.

It’s poor form to target 14 year olds from QFA clubs or hold players back from higher levels/ VFL etc but if like us you are providing QAFL opportunity for young fellas at the appropriate time (probably around age 17 is right) then I really don’t understand the criticism.

Last weekend for example we had one Burleigh junior playing in our seniors but Burleigh and Carrara each had 4-5 ex Broadbeach playing in their seniors. All good that’s how it should be

Agree 100% with these comments. Its simply about recognition of the original club as Sherwood do - Caloundra used to do the same with juniors who debuted from local junior clubs (Kawana for example) and prob still do.

Great write up about Sherwood for their nomination of the team during 70's / 80's for the QAFL HoF too Thommo. Fantastic historical take on the club. Many people don't realise the historical part of Qld footy and how rich it is. Especially those who come from south of the border who feel that Aust football started / ended with Victorian input.

Whoever is writing these articles for the HoF noms is doing a stellar job actually. Have read every one and they are great

Good recognition of the SQAFA as well, though many from that era would probably disagree that it was '2nd tier'. More like 'alternative' or 'rebel comp' as the QAFL refused to admit new clubs, nor did they have a 2nd division. SQAFA was run by a completely different organisation and were far more progressive.

Certainly Mt Gravatt, Sherwood and UQ/Acacia Ridge at times would have been as good as any QAFL team during the 70s
