They’d leave because the one that are there want to play qafl. Not saying they are world beaters but they still have the opportunity to play QAFL.

It’s what happened when Sandgate dropped out, they lost a bunch of players and didn’t field a seniors and reserves in the next season

Once again , I hear you and agree on one front . On the other front is the case that most of these players know they are not good enough to be a regular senior player at QAFL level and they have been belted every week this season..
Regardless at what league/ comp one plays in its always great to run out onto the field for the senior game .thats a good feeling ,, see where Im coming from

My point would be that they have plenty of youngsters that would most likely want to have another crack at QAFL and go to a rival club. UQ have taken almost a decade to get their seniors into finals. And Sandgate is now doing very well in div 2 north. But both took many years to recover from the drop.

Would be great when they are dropped to div 1 they’d be somewhat competitive. But I made a post about a week or so ago about what exactly does AFLQ deem a success for Mt Gravatt to stay in next year? Let’s say they win 4 games but still finish last. Do they still get dropped? What happens if Coorparoo comes last?

Neither UQ nor Sandgate were anywhere this uncompetitive in their last year. As Toucan posted last week that was the 13th loss by 100 points for the season and it eclipses the previous most of 9 by Caloundra……and there are still 2 games to go.

Plenty of clubs have had to step to consolidate over the years.

Don't agree. They should be out.

Seniors with a % of 20. Won 3 games across all 3 grades of the QAFL in total, showing there is nothing coming through and their youth program is arguably in an even worse state.

Short of getting a cash injection and some kind of points concession, there are no signs of life down there. You can't see any green shutes coming through, everything points to them likely even being worse next year.

Club with a history of QAFL premierships ( unlike others in the comp) should be given some latitude and this their first wooden spoon in how long. We tolerated Redlands for years being non- competitive and the Western MagPies on their re-entry didn’t win a game in 2 years. Margins are irrelevant. I’m by no means a Mounties fan but they deserve time

Did every team play each other twice then though?
It's ok to tolerate it if it is even across the competition. But if some play the non-competitive team twice and others only once then it creates an imbalance for the competition.
Plus you need to consider if it is worth flogging a dead horse. If they need to go back to Div 2 like Sandgate did to rebuild it isn't the worst thing. It can't be enjoyable for anyone turning up each week knowing that you are most likely in for a belting.

Having 13 teams in the comp next year would allow a late exit if required and not impact a fixture too greatly.

100% they do - we are talking about a State League competition, not div 2. They would want to show some real improvement in list over summer or I'd take the decision out of their hands

2020 - 6th (3 wins, 5 losses - COVID 8 game season)
2021 - 9th (3wins)
2022 - 11th (4wins)
2023 - 11th (5 wins)

So they were sort of trending up. However the issue is that in those years, their Reserves and Colts are consistently bottom 3 as well, so the entire structure is poor.

Meanwhile you look at other clubs who had extended struggles.

Grange were bottom 2 every year from 2016-2021, but in amongst that they won a Colts GF and played finals in Colts almost every year and had a strong youth program. While they have recruited well, that Colts 2019 PRemiership team at a guess has at least been a basis for the Senior/Reserves sides to build from.

Point is you need to look at the overall picture of a clubs viability and how they will bounce back from a season of 0 wins and % of 20 and there doesn't appear any way back.

Especially in an uneven draw situation where playing them twice can decide a finals position given it comes with not just a guaranteed 4 points, but also a huge % boost.

The AFLQ have a lot more reasons to push them down then keep them up right now versus a decade ago. It's a shame but no one is entitled to a position.

How can margins be irrelevant?? Surely it's about competitive status??

By that measure, Mayne, Kedron and Sandgate should be in. Out go Redland who are only mob never to win a QAFL Premiership, push Noosa and Maroochy out too? Thats just silly.

Weren't the Magpies turfed out after 2 winless years back in 2010?
 
Let them have the summer to recruit (if they haven’t started already). AFLQ has given them a life line. However in my opinion they need to show they have the depth by Jan/Feb 2025 which is step 1. Then if they get past that. Step 2 will be praccy games. If they don’t get passed step 2 then they drop out. Eg losing by 11 goals to a div 1 team and 25 goals to the u18 lions academy like they did this year. That’s how I’d see it. Then you’ve given them every opportunity.

Going about as good as Melbourne were prior to the AFL helping them out with administration and coaching personnel changes! Plenty of money in the bank
(especially charging approx $700 a player) to assist here also!

With such a short history, it is no great surprise that this is the Demons’ highest score and greatest winning margin over Redlands.
The margin of 36 points has now occurred 101 times.

Probably not a lot to share this week. With 12 games to go, I’ll predict that 3 games will be decided by 2 goals or less. (Not a big prediction as across all recorded results, almost 19% of fixtures have been decided by such a margin.)
Noting that Surfers Paradise and Noosa finish the season with two Home games (whilst Redlands and Sherwood have none), it is still mathematically possible for the Demons to grab third spot – although certain results would have to go their way, including Mt Gravatt defeating Redlands for their first win of the season. So, you know,…..
 
With all due respect to everyone who has posted about Season 2025 so far, it appears that we are all in the dark regarding the League's strategy for next year. As far as we know, at this stage, it will be a 13-team competition.
That seems less than optimal to me.
 
On a different note.

Seems we have drafted more blokes to the AFL from the QAFL since 2010s than the late 1990s and 2000s. Would that be due to the ‘better’ or more streamlined academies and state teams? Or is it something going on in the youth-juniors area?
