Few suprise results. Moorooka done better than I expected but nothing as big as Gympies win. Seems they were hiding a few of their players during the praccy matches. If they aren’t at full strength like they say they aren’t. Could be a very tough team to beat, especially at home as they’ve shown they can travel just fine. I do know Lanze Magin is still to come back in for them from suspension. Predicting him to poll well in league B&F.

Anyone know what happened with Hinterland? They were confident and very cocky all offseason. The way they were talking themselves up you’d expect them to have won.

Again they’ve recruited new players. It’s the third year in a row where an influx of new players come in. I feel the ressies will be strong with depth for the first time a couple years. Seniors will take time to gel. Only round 1

Gympie had a guy walk out of Noosa into Gympie 2 weekends ago - kicked 5 I see. Was skipper of Noosa's 2's.
They were always going to be ok, couple of recent pu's make them better - the maroochy 3rds who won Div 4 last year played in that same comp a couple of years ago and although won it a couple of times, Gympie did win it 3 years ago now. It is a reasonable comp and some good sides around the Wide Bay area - certainly some would do ok in Div 3. Now the combination of Pomona's senior side which has traditionally had a handful of very good players but just no numbers, this merged team will be alright. Monies are fine, it was just going to be the bringing together of 2 clubs tbh. Coach is a very passionate guy and been around Noosa FC for a fair while. If Perry-Warren is playing then he will dominate, plus Pomona always have a couple of surprise packets. Interesting fact is that Pomona has had the equal 2nd most guys drafted into AFL footy behind Caloundra in the past 3 decades from SC teams.

Yeha I ****** up. Guess the wide bay league isn’t so bad after all. Gympie will be a force at home and against wynumm this week will be mouth watering. Keen to see the results. Hinterland at home against Ipswich also interesting.

Keen to see how Moreton bay bounce back against Redcliffe

Reckon any trip to Gympie will be tough - be a vocal crowd and the ground is very big.

agree smy and gee I really hope they go well I’m good mates with their coach who as u said is a very passionate footy person and the cats did pick up patty Harris and mick gaffa from Noosa who both kicked 5 on the weekend.Never want good guys to leave your footy club but unlike in Victoria not many options for blokes that want to play senior footy not reserve grade we wish both boys and Gympie all the best

All this talk on Gympie-Pomona being a suprise winner? I’m not surprised at all. Played the local competition against them and Pomona is still one of the tougher teams I have played against, they’re fast, physical and great skills. Had a handful of players who could be off being paid by clubs but stayed with them. Their backline was extremely tough to get passed for a number of seasons and their midfield with Lanze who has been offered by just about every club on the coast money to play for them would dominate clearances. Gympie were always a couple of key players away from competing also. To add any two teams together is going to build a very solid list and by looking at the reserves and senior list from the weekend I’m seeing a lot of familiar names. Wouldn’t be suprised to see them feature deep into the finals.

is there anything more annoying (and cynical) than clubs who do live scoring and only enter their own clubs goals?

AFLQ should start punishing this pathetic behaviour. Not that hard to see which number kicked a goal, and the odd 'unknown' is acceptable, but just not entering them at all is rubbish

Agree, frustrates myself as well especially when I like to do homework on the opposition

100% agree with this. Also like to be able to see who’s kicking goals. You can see how many they’ve kicked in the end but you’d also wanna know if a bloke can get hot and snag 3 in a quarter or if he’s just presented all day and gets on the end of one every now and again.

Rizzle, not sure Hinterland have been cocky - i would say optimistic about the new season ahead with lots of new players, new coach etc.
Unfortunately like many clubs Hinterland suffers from junior player retention when crossing over to senior football, and retaining the services of the very good senior players.
Many if not most juniors find something else to do instead of footy when they reach the end of the junior competition age group.
Many promising juniors move on to local Div 1 clubs Maroochydore or Caloundra, i cant blame them as they want to challenge themselves at the higher level. Same can be said for the very good senior players.
This weekend for example in Div 1 senior footy there was 1 ex junior playing for Maroochydore and 3 past senior players playing for Caloundra (one of those was a past captain from several seasons back).
The new coach is doing a great job in getting players to the club, it is very much a work in progress on and off the field.
This is not unique to Hinterland, all clubs would love to retain every promising junior and keep the best senior players.

Gympie where good in
2 nd div years ago and won
The 3rd div a couple of time I think
Once against a strong Kenmore

Then went back and played in the wide
Bay for some reason
Great ground to play on
Really great positioned clubhouse in the hill
We always stayed at rainbow beach
Went swimming and fishing
Took the Monday off
ORSM road trip
And when they where in the comp
I think Toowoomba where in too
So
Some good miles to do
There 🕺

That’s how it should be, Toowoomba should have a rep senior sides that play in this comp every week, but they just don’t have the numbers as they use to up there anymore

They’d have enough up that way to get 50 blokes together and get a side happening. There are 5 clubs based in Toowoomba itself , that’s without counting the 4 teams from out of town.

With the right people in charge and some initiative it could happen

On this one id have to say there's plenty of other things to worry about on game day.
The jobs from aflq just keep getting longer.
It's hard enough to find timekeepers.
Field umpire
Goal umpires
Runners
Water boys
Scoreboard
Interchange steward
Canteen staff
First aid
Managers
Umpires escort
Im sure I forgot a couple but I'm sure you get the picture.
I'm happy just to see the live scoring.
If you were to punish clubs for not getting things right then I reckon you would be dishing out fines to every club every week.
Give yourself an uppercut on this one.

all fair champ, but if you're doing one teams goals and not the others, you're just being cynical

Got no probs if its just live scoring, but just making the effort to record one teams goals means you're doing the job, but paying no respect or care to the opposition.

While I 100 % agree there is a lot to do on game day I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong, that live scoring is done by the away team and that it is a requirement to be done from a league perspective (although I don’t think there are any punishments if not done).

And I think it’s fair, either do just live scoring with no goal kickers if you are struggling to have the volunteers or if you are going to enter in goal kickers. Do it for both teams

Correct

It is correct but still scratching my head that majority of clubs voted for this. Far easier to sort at home than away. Damn thing is a waste of time atm anyway with so many bugs I could only see accurate scoring on one game from the weekend. If doing it I'm certainly not got give a fat rats about opposition goal scorers to meet the mild passing interest of someone that has zero use for it.

missing my point.

No dramas if its not done at all, or just done with quarter by quarter updates or live scoring without detail.

But clubs that go to the trouble of doing live scoring and entering every single goal their own side kicks as it happens, then just not entering anything for the opposition is just cynical and rude.

There are several regular offender in this regard.
