It's hard for me to comprehend that people can't see how disgusting statistics like the most wealth 85 people in the world own more than the least wealthy 50% of the world's population are. This wouldn't be so bad if all of the bottom 50% of the world's population had access to food and clean water, and all had the exact same opportunities as the top 85 people in the world. But they don't, the whole game is completely rigged and the rich keep getting richer, it isn't just a saying, it is a trend that has been happening for years.

The top 1% of people have 65 times more wealth than the bottom half. Yet there are children starving in Africa (and Australia to a lesser extent). How exactly does this create more jobs? And how does it create "essential" jobs. The world doesn't really need more ferrari factory workers or jewelery store attendents, but we could use more farmers, scientists, and people working in the develop and construction of renewable energy. Instead the big money is in extracting high polluting energy sources from the earth to earn ridiculous profits for selfish capitalists like Gina Rinehardt.

I don't know your circumstances, but as human beings most people would do their best to help a starving person who arrived at their doorstep. They would cook them some food and buy them a glass of water. Just because they aren't at your doorstep, doesn't mean you shouldn't be helping. It doesn't have to be much, if everyone helped a little bit it would go a long way, but the very richest people in the world could do a lot more.
heck me, you are faster and looser with 'facts' than hodgepodge is. The world is an unfair place - get over it and get back to work. Go and live in Russia or North Korea if you want to experience socialism in its finest glory.

That's a nothing argument. Derp socialism derp soviet Russia, therefore it is not immoral that the elite can manipulate the system in favour of themselves while the gap between the rich and poor widens with each generation, all the while there are people living in gross poverty with no or little access to water, medicine, opportunities, or food.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, I suppose :$

And I'm tipping you have the solution?

Do you need to have a solution to stop all murders to point out that it is immoral to murder and people shouldn't do it and we should try find solutions to prevent it?

Ahh, so you got nuthin' :thumbsu:

Ahh, so you got nuthin' :thumbsu:
How dumb. I'll go murder someone then because everyone who argues that it is immoral to murder can't find the solution to stop me and others from murdering, and therefore I don't need to feel bad about it or acknowledge that by murdering someone I have done something fundamentally immoral :drunk:

I'm not interested in murders - I want to know what you believe would remedy the situation you described?
Your analogy is moot

My analogy just shows that what I am doing is pointing out an immoral behaviour, and therefore do not need a solution to do so. If you want to argue against what I am saying, you need to show how it is not immoral for a person to live in disgusting luxury whilst people around the world starve through no fault of their own, when the people could easily just redirect portions of their profits in to sustainable projects that would raise the standard of living for those most in need and subsequent generations of people, whilst not having a significant impact on their own comfort or lifestyle. - There is part of the solution.

I don't know how to make people more empathetic, just like I don't know how to stop them from murdering. But I do know that what they are doing is wrong and they can easily put their wealth to work to help their fellow humans, instead of exploiting them.

You might be onto something there, however I think someone may have stolen your idea. Last time I looked, the solution you are proposing was called tax :$

Your thoughts are noble Jazny but in the end the world isn't all roses and someone will be rich whilst others are poor. It's a shame we can't all share our wealth, it's worked so well in the past

I'm all for helping those in need but I've worked bloody hard (and been very lucky) to have the things I do, I won't be made to feel guilty for that.

Jazny, do you have a car or are you planning to get one. Good, I will find someone on the breadline who needs the car and you can give it to them. It will make you feel so virtuous.

There are always going to be rich and poor, but there never has to be the disgustingly rich and the starving to death. It's a horrible failure of the human race, and nobody seems to care. They just donate a dolar to UNICEF and like a "Stop Starvation in Africa" facebook page and pretend that their job is done, then they go back to spending the rest of their lives trying to keep up with the Joneses, at the expense of living any kind of fulfilling existence. Then they make themselves feel better about the society they live in, which enables and encourages this massive wealth disparity, by calling anyone who points out how immoral it is a "communist" or tells them to go live in Russia.

Jazny give your bike to some one who needs it then.

And you speak of Russia as if you know something about the world. A better example would be North Korea. Perhaps you can tell us all how they live.

No one would try anymore if they were given everything.

Everything? Like food and water and access to medicine? :$

Gina Rinehardt was given everything. Did she stop trying? (I really wish she did)

Just wondered how you can judge someone elses existence as being fulfilled or not?

If I were to hypothetically go cry in a corner for the next hour because the world is full of fat greedy heartless capitalists, what music should I hypothetically listen to? :$

how the hell are you typing and listening to capitalist music on a fat greedy youtube if you have donated all your worldly goods to the poor downtrodden masses and you are living up in a tree eating bugs so as not to harm the planet?

The world is full of fat greedy heartless capitalists. Don't cry but get angry!

Rage Against the Machine is a good choice:
