Review R23: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

Few Port people I know say they're embarrassed of the majority of their own supporters and know they're filth, they just got into supporting Port young so that's who they happen to support.
Yep - One of my work colleagues was thinking of leaving early due to the feral fanbase. And they're a Port supporter!

He was extremely soft on it in the press conference though
Can anyone explain why he was so soft? It just portraits weakness, lack of outrage and gutlessness.

After that hit...and that loss...and that level of humiliation by the mocking oppo and fans, surely a real coach could stand up for his team and risk a fine or something. But just show some passion!!

I can't wait for next week to be over so we can sack this guy.

...if we do.

I would have liked for him to mention the targeting of Rankine during the game, and the crowd booing him off.

I can’t see how Houston gets less than Rankine and McAdam.

McAdams didn’t even result in concussion.

Rankine was standing still but caught the head of the swans player who was unaware. Definitely agree with Ranks getting 4 weeks for that.

Houston just lined Rankine up from 15 metres away and completely shirt fronted him. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen someone shirt fronted like that in the afl.

Should be a massive ban.
Rugby League banned shoulder charges years ago because of their potential to cause injury, and that was with a guy with the footy running flat out in the opposite direction. Houston's hit was 100% a shoulder charge to a bloke who was stationary. I agree, should be a massive ban.

Next year they need to play Rash in midfield more like they promised and move a few more players in there like Taylor and Dowling. The Crouch, Soligo combo doesn't cut it.

Glad Laird isn't in there as much
Have to admit crouch was pretty good last night and flew the flag. Is he our future though? Can we keep him and go forward?

Anyone see the footage of Rioli’s hit on Sholl from behind off the ball. Needs to get a week for it - it’s the reason Fog gave away the 50

Haven’t seen it highlighted anywhere and hopefully it hits Twitter today to make sure it gets due attention

Speaking of replays, did anyone notice the elbow that Dixon hit Murray with on the goal line? Live, it was impossible to see but as the ARC was reviewing a decision they replayed over and over the same hit. Looked deliberate and knocks Murray's head back like a boxer getting a big punch.

I'm trying to remember but I think it was the arc review of the ball hitting the point post low down, resulting in a boundary throw in.

Sorry, I don't have the tech skills to weave that video into bf. Anyone?

I'm staggered at the amount of posters finally noticing how poor Berry is when over the ball, and how often he fumbles. What were you watching when he was getting midfield minutes and at centre bounces??

He has slowly been on the improve the last month.

Last night was a terrible regression.

4 umpires and yet the miss this sort of stuff. They all get sucked into ball watching.

Average talented players with low ceilings, can only ever be so good, even if they try really really hard. Not sure why there's so hard for the Crows to understand.

Just on the loss, yeah its never good losing to that mob, but am I the only one that feels like Port shouldn't be as satisfied with that as they were?

We were never going to keep stretching out a winning streak against a team that has been consistently top four whilst we're bottom four. The fact that we've been beating them is frankly ridiculous, and should have been deeply upsetting to them.

Our season is long over, we were actually better off losing, and they had everything to play for at home infront of a big crowd. This was their opportunity for a massive tone setting win that clearly demonstrated the gulf between the two teams, which would set the tone of the rivalry for years to come.

The second showdown in 2019 did that: they absolutely smashed us, and we didn't take another one off them for the next two years, including some smashings.

This one? I don't feel that way. With everything in their favour they didn't do anything to demonstrate that future contests between these teams will be anything other than winnable, and with everything in their favour they had to resort to knocking out our best player against a young team, and our team not knowing how to respond, to get the W. There are limits to how many times you can play that card.

Did any Port players or coaches actually say in their post-match media that they hope Izak is alright? I heard a lot about Houston being an upstanding citizen

Hinkley did - and I think Butters did on the ground fox interview and did

And yet they justified extra umpires for behind play issues.
Yes they did. And they miss everything. Remember the other week when Keane was hit off the ball? Had an umpire right next to him - umpire ball watching instead.Umpires too interested in trying to pluck a free kick from 150 m away to notice what is happening right next to them.
The entire umpiring department needs a bullet.

No no no - perfectly legitimate bump. It's not Houston's fault Rankine's head hit the ground which caused the concussion. Houston's shoulder clearly didn't contact Rankine's head.

Yes, yes. This is what my Port supporting acquaintances tell me.

Seriously the most campaignerish supporters in the AFL.
