Actually I didn't but I see your point. I was actually referring to "playing to a reasonable level". That suggests to me that the MC was wrong in selecting him cause he wasn't playing to a reasonable level. I was backing the MC....maybe I could have worded it better but unfortunately I don't have the skills of 17er

Yes we all fall way short of the great man. It be good to see Weller play on the wing today his foot skills are supposed to be quite good and our forwards need to be given much better service

I agree. I also think he should be on a wing or HF but obviously the powers that be see something in his playing down back, that I and others don't. Maybe it's for team balance.

C'mon mate, give it a break. Sure, he's not setting the world on fire, but if he wasn't playing to a reasonable level, then your comment suggests you are condemning Stewie and the Management Committee for playing him.
I'll side with the MC on this and suggest he is playing to their reasonable level.....

And as far as being in the top 5 as Mr Bods suggests, I don't care if he's in the top 15 as long as he plays his role and gets our team the win...
Look it is more personal opinion , i see no reason why you want a Top 15 performance from a player if he is capable for being in Top 5. Maybe reasonable level is not a good word. A level we know he is capable of .

The truth is half back is the "new" wing
It's the link between the backline and forward line and half backs are expected to appear inside the forward 50 from time to time
It really makes no difference if he lines up half back or wing IMO
The issue is does he have the nous and tank to go in the middle or the forward craft to play forward 50
I think the answer to both at the moment is that the jury is out

It seems you and I might be alike in that it's hard to put into words what we actually mean...."a level we know he's capable of" sits OK with me.:thumbsu:
At the same time he must be doing something right in the eyes of the MC, or he wouldn't be playing. I'm sure there's some capable players in the 2's just itching for a game in the seniors.

And he's only 5 games into a new system and new Club.....

He is not special but don't you reckon is time for him to start playing to reasonable level .
Common, Weller in first 5 games was more than reasonable. In every game he was probably in best 10. Yes, he made some bad turnovers but is you can't see his class, movement, kick, plays his role?

I like Holman for Gibbs. Ex-team mates at the opposite ends of the Blues hierarchy, similar size with advantage to Nick. If not, then perhaps Lonergan? The matchup I like is Young and Seedsman, who was named with Touk and Witts in the afl.com.au team of the week - similar age and experience, so should be a good battle.

For once, the Suns look to have the opposition covered for height and may even have some matchup worries for the opposition. A couple of mismatches are to be expected, but the Crows have a glaring one with Doedee giving away 11cm to Lynch. Perhaps Talia plays on Lynch, but then who can mark Day? You'd imagine the plan is to double team Lynch, sit a tall on Day and scramble their defence to keep our small guys out. I don't really think we'll keep the named forward 6, but I like the potential pressure the big fellas can bring.

I actually like the Suns here for an upset. Sydney went down there and pushed them and our gameplan is somewhat similar to Sydney's. The Crows have been injury ravaged and although they are still highly competitive, they can be outmatched.

I wouldn't take our lineup too seriously outside of these are the 22 players that will play. We tend to just mess around with it a bit and throw some oddball matchups.

It'll be Talia on Lynch, Otten on Day and Doedee floating. We will probably miss Kelly who is another medium defender though.

Nah he can't defend , move him further away from backline then maybe his class will come back .

I would like to see us not concede more than 3 goals in a row... and I think we should really celebrate back to back goals. I don't have high hopes but little wins like this will make me happy
Great post
these are the things I look for in terms of progress too
No blowouts
Regrouping and preventing 10 goal run ons
We'll see

Last year Weller had 20+ disposals in only his 3rd year and went at 77% efficiency which is elite in the AFL. His tank is big enough and these qualities would be 1. Why the club gave up so much and 2. Why they were trying him off half back. He’s much better than what we’ve seen.

The only thing that come good out of weller was LDU is doing a lot worse if GC pick him up with pick 2.

Quirky fact: Our backline today is made up completely of players from the northern parts of Australia.

HB: Lachie Weller (Gold Coast, QLD), Steven May (Darwin, NT), Jack Martin (Broome, WA)
B: Jarrod Harbrow (Cairns, QLD), Rory Thompson (Gold Coast, QLD), Jesse Joyce (Gold Coast, QLD)
INT: Max Spencer (Gold Coast, QLD)

How do I like this more?

Hoping to see our key matchups put the Crows on the back foot. Lyons and Crouch have a rivalry that goes back to them fighting for the same spot. I think Holman goes to Gibbs.
