All the more reason to have given Hughy a run IMO.

Not necessarily; remember Sav got knocked out a couple of weeks ago and twinges a hamstring as well.
The icing was precautionary apparently. You don't ping a hammy and not miss weeks.

Not a great game for Delaney to miss with the form Kennedy is in, I don't like the idea of Dempster playing full back, he's been carved up a few times there.

I would've thought Lee or Goddard might've got a call up as a key defender, Lee has the added bonus of being able to play forward as well.

The addition of Montagna and Acres should at least give us plenty of run, the midfield will be the key to winning this game so if we can get the upper hand there we'll be in with a big chance of causing another upset.
Kennedy only seems to play well against bottom teams, which isn't good for us lol. Should of given Lee or Goddard a shot at it and pissed Shenton off

I think Lee replaces Fisher, Goddard probably the next in line for the big forwards but they probably don't want to do what Clarkson did to Zac Dawson.

I have no clue what is happening with Darren Minchington. Regularly in the best for Sandringham and got promoted to the senior list this year only tooo... Not have been in our 22 all year? What?
saints feel shenton is a better option in our………. sorry i couldn't keep it together its to funny to even type :p:p

Except Shenton is a running mid sized backman and Minchington is a small forward/midfielder. There is way too much hysteria over Shenton, he is a serviceable player who has some good and bad aspects but he has played less than 20 games so should improve still. He is very unfairly maligned by people in forums who seem to need find a victim.

I watched the 2009 prelim the other night with my son and both Kosi and Clarke were very good in that game especially late in the last few minutes when the Dogs were coming. They both were favourite whipping boys despite that.

Looking forward to seeing how Eli Templeton goes in the forward pocket again, especially given his impressive defensive work of late. He's got competition for that role now with Jack Sinclair our second highest goal-kicker this year spending time there and Ahmed Saad showing a return to form.

Even Minchie and Schneider have tabs on that spot. Should be motivating for all of them.

Perfect week for Goddard or even Lee to come in. Oh well.

To be fair I wonder if they are protecting them a little. If what posters suggest is true, that Lee was moved to play at the back to help his confidence, then getting owned by one of the best FF in the game isn't going to help that confidence.
Likewise Goddard looks a great prospect, but I'd sure as hell rather his first taste of AFL wasn't a day that someone was likely to kick 8+ against him.

In theory, West Coast are only playing 2 talls in the forward line, so we're matching it. Run in the middle will be as important - hoping we can catch them on a tired day.
I see this as an opportunity. Dempster will play FB, Fisher his normal role. Roberton and/or McKenzie get a chance to play the loose/3rd man role, which realistically 18 months from now they might be doing permanently with Dempster having retired.

id just don't think shenton is an AFL footballer, i didn't think it last year and i don't think it this year

Baffling selections once again. We're going in with the 191cm Fisher and 191cm Dempster as our key defenders against the 196cm Kennedy and 197cm McInnes. No doubt one of the rucks in Naitanui and Sinclair will usually be parked in the goal square as well, probably competing against the ever so skilful and composed 188cm Shenton. If they're feeling confident they'll probably even throw McGovern forward to take a few grabs on Jimmy Webster or Dan McKenzie. We lose a CHF and FB and replace them with two flankers...

The current administration is doing a lot of things right at the moment but selection isn't one of them. I think our selection this week has pretty much killed any chance we had of winning. Can't see that forward line kicking a winning score, can't see the defence keeping West Coast's forward line in check and I can't see much quality rebound occurring with Fisher, Dempster and Webster all having to lock down on dangerous, taller opposition. Our only hope is if the midfield absolutely dominates and contributes 10 or so goals themselves. And for the love of god, let Acres play a full game.

Our coaching staff showing lots of faith in our midfield .
Interesting that Saints have more inside forward 50 entries than West Coast.
Our Tackle count is higher .
Top 20 Middies STK Armitage , Stevens
WCE Priddis , Masten

..... aaand thats why we need a devolping FB.
payne would be that, tho more a project than developing in the sense he would be close to ever getting a game.

Agree. Doesn't have the smarts or skills to make it in a decent team. Don't know why we're persevering with him when he keeps producing the same result which just isn't good enough. 1 in 4 games will be decent, 1 will be average and 2 will be shockers. Usually the decent game is against poor opposition with little pressure.

If Blake doesn't start as sub, where do we think he will play? The half back line or through the midfield? I hope he can continue his great form.

H, Payne is a skinny-as-a-rake 193cm third tall.

He's not now, nor will he ever be, a full back.
