The problem is she will be named and shamed .The Advertiser Crows Lynch mob will stalk her house and workplace maybe getting her sacked.People will harass her and her Family at her house and shopping centre. She should maybe ring the Adelaide FC and offer Eddie an apology. This could get very nasty for her.

I'm not defending her but I just find it a bit too far fetched that she intended to go to the footy armed with a banana with the intent of throwing it at Eddie Betts.
The truth is, the banana was so slippery it just leapt from her hand accidentally. Amazing! I would have thought being at the footy would be exciting enough. It has been reported that she spent a restless night. You've got to feel for her.

Ban her for life. Although I agree that throwing a banana and monkey taunts aren't exclusively racist, it clearly was racist this time. Throwing of any object at players should result in a ban too.

Can anyone point me to one instance of a monkey-related slur/act being directed at a white person?

Jason Dunstall aka "The Chief" aka "Uganda's National Symbol" is a running joke on the footy show. Brett Ratten is another that gets the monkey comments. Just gotta have big ears.

Here we go again.

An idiot does something racist, so the SJWs are out in force branding anyone who doesn't join their lynchmob as racist and insisting that it's clearly a massive issue.

It's 2016. We've had players forced to sit out matches due to crowd wide abuse, literal Neo Nazis unfurling banners at matches, bananas getting tossed at Aboriginal players and them being likened to King Kong, and Muslim players getting labelled terrorists across the fence.

Your retort is to point the finger at SJWs? If anything it's time they lifted their game because there still seem to be a sizeable number of racist ****wit bellends coming to footy matches.

This woman deserves all the scorn and ridicule she gets. A life ban and police action at a minimum.

Good on those in the crowd for calling her out on it. Sad security wasn't able to act quicker and help her out.

Last minute of matches they're usually ringing the boundary. She's lucky they missed this.

Quite frankly, serves her right.

She is at a sporting event - its not life or death. Yet she carries on like a pork chop then takes it to another level.

Why should she not be named and shamed?

Because someone that resorts to that sort of action is probably not well-equipped to cope with the public shaming and might do something drastic as a result of their life falling apart. I think something negative like that can be turned into a positive, if people are willing to try.

People can't be this ignorant can they? Black people have been called monkeys/apes as a way of implying that they are an inferior race. That's what racism is. Calling Dunstall or Ratten those names has nothing to do with racism. You are not implying/saying for centuries that their race is inferior and that that justifies their horrendous treatment of them...you know slavery, senseless killings, rape, torture etc etc.

And here you and others compare it to a little stirring on footy show? **** me!!

It can't be defended this, racist and also throwing something at a player is out of order

Just out of curiosity when someone is given a ground ban how on earth is it enforced?
It is difficult to enforce, but if they are caught the penalties are quite severe. I think you can be charged for criminal trespass etc...

A woman makes a stupid mistake in the heat of the moment in an environment which is intentioned to make people excited and expose their emotions, after the player deliberately taunts the opposition supporters.

Really? You are blaming Betts for taunting her into a racist act? Just because she wears your colours doesn't mean she deserves any defence.
And it wasn't a stupid mistake in the heat of the moment. It required too many coincidences for it be an unplanned act.

That's true, but then one should keep their yap shut when in public if they do not want a response.

I hate the term 'sticks and stones' cause words do hurt. She should have thought about that in the first instance.

These threads continue to sicken me. I can understand (although not tolerate) an uneducated 13 year old girl that doesn't understand the gravity of using the term "ape" towards an Indigenous player.

But it's sickening that full grown adults - both the woman in question and people on this thread - don't understand the gravity of an act or a connotation that labels Indigenous people as "apes/monkeys etc."

These people need to do some ****ing research. The connotation is that Indigenous people (or other black/native/indigenous groups elsewhere) are unevolved, backwards, unintelligent etc - it is by it's very definition racist. It's a particularly insidious connotation in Australia when you consider the fact that Indigenous people were considered "fauna" until 50 years ago, were unable to vote, were having their children taken away, and are still being treated as/considered second class citizens today.

It's bad enough that one ****ing idiot at a footy game makes this insinuation. It's plain ****ing disgusting that anyone, in the fullness of time and with the opportunity to properly consider their comments, would try and argue that this is not racist.

Read the rest of my post. It's not my fault your reading comprehension is lacking. The previous poster asked for an example of when white people are ever referred to as monkeys. I gave one. I wasn't excusing the actions of this racist woman, in fact I decried them in the previous paragraph and said she should be banned. I was just correcting the misconception that monkey is exclusively a racist insult. We all know it carries more weight when used towards a black person.

Of course, so ban her for as long as is deemed appropriate and don't let her back until she has shown some sort of remorse and taken steps to make a difference in the community.

The name and shame method and the media outlets baying for blood is going to have fatal consequences one day.

No. The act of throwing projectiles is not a racist action by itself, banana or otherwise.
Maybe I just have a higher requirement for proof before labelling someone is all.

In the providing of that evidence I agree. Racist.
Hold on - is there racism in Australia ? I thought it was just the creation of the left/feminist/ABC/inner-city/LGBT/greenie .. did I mention feminist ? - cabal so accurately outed by the well mannered, reasonable, sedate right wing opinion writers. And even if there is something, sort of, kinda , a one off racial 'situation', I don't want it shoved down my throat by the left/feminist/ABC/inner-city/LGBT/greenie .. did I mention feminist ? - cabal who seem to have an answer for everything. Why don't they - you know they - just stop criticising Australia - which is the best place in the world - and get a job / haircut / out of my face. How can we possibly make Australia great again with these backstabbers and haters undermining our morale at this time when our civilisation is under threat ?
