Please respect the "Play Nice" status of this thread.

Whether or not you have "a valid point", nastiness and rumour-mongering will result in post deletions, thread bans, and warning points depending on the post and my mood at the time.

Love love love

Footballers don’t even work a 40 hour week. He’s just 30, plenty of time for faith and family after retiring at 33-34.

Very strange to announce now....wonder if something has happened? Was looking to be available early for finals.

Scarlett didn't even do a presser when he retired. Lake drove around Caroline Springs in a personalised golf cart after he retired.

Gun KPDs are just strange, strange units.

I am no expert, but I used to work with a fella who was a J.W., and as I recall part of thier religion was to spend time each week spreading the word. You see this typically in doorknockers and selling magazines.

I'm guessing that Rance could not do this as a professional footy player (time wise), and his descision probably has a lot to do with that.

Hawk ruckman Stephen Lawrence retired early to become a minister (maybe catholic?) as well.

Gotta respect thier choices

Missing the season with a knee injury probably gave him a taste of what retirement is like. Probably enjoyed it enough to lose a bit of the hunger and wanted to make it permanent.

Plus the Olympics are next year ;)

Haha man you truly have no idea how much they put in.

Some people just have no clue

He was getting beaten badly by Watts so lost the plot. Cannot remember exactly what he done but was embarrassing.
Same in his last preliminary final when at one point he tries to stop Mason Cox marking and completely outpointed and looks around as if it was someone else's fault...lol.. That was his last full game. Better to be remembered by going out with knee done in last game than the game before it which was way worse way to go out and be remembered by most.

Edit: Found it on youtube..

Damn, that's even worse watching it now than I remembered

Edit: I also remember him cracking the shits and kicking the ball away on the ground in 2014, against Port (I think). Probably best not to go down memory lane with this bloke.

Rumours a couple of years ago that he was retiring regarding faith. Strange time to do it now but more to life than footy.

All the best in your post-footy life and after-life if that's your thing. Champion defender. One of the best of the era.

Something behinds the scenes obviously happened

there was probably a set back with his injury so he probably decided to retire instead
He had to have a “clean up” a couple of weeks ago, may have been something more

On par with Francis Bourke as the best defender I have seen at Richmond. Took a dive to milk a free and he got reported... if that is how you want to categorise him good for you. Tony Lockett and Ablett Snr destroyed more people in an afternoon that Rance in his whole career, but they are greats of the game. Great player is how he will be remembered.

He won't go down as one of the great defenders of all time

He will go down for being a diver and getting a ton of goals kicked on him.

Cya rance, enjoy knocking on those doors.

I'd have him in front of Moore and Southby, maybe a smidge in front of Lake (only for sustained excellence, Lake's best was a good as any), equal with Dench and only a touch behind Silvagni and Scarlett.

He was a goalsaver, his influence on the entire defensive 50 was the best I have ever seen, he got to an enormous amounts of contests and saved goals, no matter how many risks he had to take. It burnt him occasioanlly, but he saved many more than he conceded.

Truly was the catalyst and general for Richmond building the best defence in the league over the last 3 years.

Interesting though how few champion defenders of this era there are.

Guys like Hurley, McGovern, Talia, Grimes are seen as the next best and although they’re good players, they aren’t absolutely top tier defenders. Just the best in a weak field.

Contextualises the number of AA guernseys Rance has won.

I don't see him as a great or a premier defender

He should of told Richmond before the draft, but rance just worries about himself

Comprehension and critical analysis not your strong suit champ? Or do you always just jump to conslusions?

Note the statement says the club and Alex have been in constant discussion, perhaps RFC are happy to do it post draft as they have the intention of keeping him on the list till next October in the hope he may regret his decision and change his mind mid-year?

Why delist him in October 2019 to free up a list spot if our list management don’t think there is anyone worth picking up from the State leagues/supplemental period?

We did it without him in 2019, we’ll do it again.
