No you dont Scott. I still know you today. Turned out to be a gun cricketer that kid, I think me introducing him to 140km beamers as a 12 yo was the catalyst for him becoming an excellent A grade batsman.
I always had a weakness with the short ball, though.

There is still a s**t element in Newport

Around the circle is still trashy as *

The rest of the area is great though. Love Newport lakes

And North Altona although expensive is pretty ugly still
Yeah, agree. Used to work in Newport about 10 years ago and dealt some of the suburbs 'finest.'

Altona North really is a slum of a place full of el cheapo houses built in the 60's. Like everywhere within 20km of the city though it is gentrifying and will soon be unaffordable to most.

Even Altona Meadows is becoming expensive. Bought my first house there in '97 for 120k and now the property is worth about 750k, and it is a modest home.

Altona Green/Bay part of Altona Meadows is pretty nice

Up near Laverton not so much

Haven't been to Lara in years , can't even remember their pool tbh. The pool in Norlane actually wasn't bad. They had a10m diving board. Great fun watching people land awkwardly and hurt themselves.

I use to love Splashdown in Newcomb as a kid. Go on the waterslide and stop in the black part of the slide where people can't see s**t, used to get some massive crashes and pile ups. Was like human ten pin bowling.

Has anyone else noticed that James Brayshaw's face has gone very red?

Perhaps it's because he's embarrassed with the words that come out of his mouth, and/or the delivery of those words.

ND is on the gear again... you bring so much randomness to the random chat thread. Great stuff

Love using the in-laws joint down in Inverloch (speaking of towns that jumped the shark) during the middle of winter when the weather turns s**t, place is somewhat bearable with the lack of seasonal flogs. Definitely something in a walk along the beach and not seeing a single person when it's dark.
Where abouts in invy? We used to go round flogging touros when we were teenagers cause they ruined the town over summer

Ive still been looking into the great battleships, loving the videos of the wrecks, its such a shame these amazing creations by man sit at the bottom of the ocean (I mean its good that we dont have world wars but its a shame from a historic perspective they aren't around to visit and look at today). Seriously, how ****ing cool would it to be to walk aboard the Hood, Bismarck or Yamato today knowing the legend of their battles.

Its fitting however, so many kms below the surface, where its eerily quiet and still, a fitting resting place and grave for the thousands of brave men who lost their lives.

****ing loved James Cameron's sub dive down to see the Bismarck. The ship is still in amazing condition really considering how much damage it took to sink it, the 5km drop to the bottom and it being down there nearly 70 years (at the time of the recording)

Im still really invested in the missing Malaysian airlines flight also, hope some day soon they find it and are able to retrieve the black box, I heard some guy say he reckons he knows the exact location (via radio signals) and apparently they are going out to try and find it again late this year.

Here's the thing ...

I pretty much don't buy imported fruit and vegies. USA oranges ... no. Mexican asparagus ... no thanks.

I did/do make one exception though. Kiwifruit imported from New Zealand. It somehow seems ok.

Fun fact. Kiwifruit used to be called Chinese gooseberries.
That is a fun fact.

Yeah me too. Occasionally go on a binge of reading things about that. I love air crash investigations and reading about accidents. It's kind of morbid, but also reassuring on how far safety has improved and how technical or human problems are overcome.
I'd love someone to find MH370 for closure, especially for the families who lost folks. But I'm sceptical of their chances.

When I was in Hawaii some years ago I visited Pearl Harbour. As part of that visit I went onto the SS Arizona monument. It is in the harbour directly over the the sunken Arizona. The names of those killed are on the walls of the monument. It was a very moving experience.

I went there also but was a kid at the time, was too young to appreciate what I was seeing sadly.

The fighting and conditions were so bad in New Guinea in WW2 that the Japanese soldiers had a saying: “Heaven is Java; hell is Burma; but no one returns alive from New Guinea.”

However, someone must have returned alive for the saying to have been related. But I get the sentiments.

Did anyone's parents/grandparents on here ever serve in the armed forces during WW1, WW2 or Vietnam?

My grandfather was in The Australian airforce but didnt serve any time overseas, he died of cancer at only 25 years old.

Dead at 25, that’s horrible! Poor bloke didn’t even get to experience life and left a young wife/mother behind.
