Would anybody know how I could get involved with Champion Data? I'm pretty good at Maths but I also want to pursue a degree in the field of Biology.
I've been thinking of a "backup" for my future careers and given my interest in footy and maths It'd be my dream to be a sports statistician. Barrybran is it you who works in this area?

I was kinda fortunate being in such a small market, I just responded to an ad from Champion Data that was shared on the NEAFL website, so I don't know a whole lot about seeking it out. But I'd say the best bet is to check the job sites and especially keep an eye on the VFL because that's where you'll start if you do get the chance.

Do you still have the opportunity to do work experience through school? Because that'd be perfect.

To further this, I think AFL Victoria has a careers part of their site which has links to mostly local club jobs but you’ll find a few that are for VFL Clubs. Just google AFL Victoria careers and it should come up.

I'm doing physics, chem, maths methods, specialist maths, and English.
I only need an 80 ATAR to get into engineering so I'm not sweating it too much, should be sweet.
With the scaling on those subjects I'm pretty sure you could get 0 raws and hit 80
I'm doing 3 of the subjects the same as yours so if you could take that on board and not bother with exams that'd be great :p

I'm only posting this because I've been more open on my own Facebook (which I don't normally do, thanks to what I was told at a marketing talk I went to) but it could help out some of you lads going through VCE and Uni.

I really wanted to be a musician, well, a rock star through High School and I told everyone that I was going to be one.
The problem was I couldn't sing that well, well, I was terrible, but I could play the guitar.

Fortunately no one really picked on me for it as I was a very popular guy in my school, although I did get a few comments here and there.
I think people sort of digged my enthusiasm for it.

As I posted earlier, I got put into two year 12 classes in year 11 due to numbers (usually only got one) but they were art and sport, the two classes I was already good at and I ended up passing them both.
So come year 12 I was only doing 3 classes (may have been two English classes and History) but the downside is that meant I was only at school for an hour a day, as the timetables didn't line up like other peoples.

Sounds good doesn't it? Not really, I turned 18 in January before year 12 started so suddenly I was 18 with a lot of older mates who had finished school, working and without school taking up a lot of my day.
So my nights turned into clubbing and rolling in hungover for an hour and walking home to get ready for another night out.
In hindsight the school should have known it was a bad idea, they knew when my birthday was and I was a well known party boy even then.
They probably didn't care enough, I was a pretty carefree and whimsical student who spent more time talking about rock bands and poetry than whatever we were actually supposed to be learning.

After a term of hitting the nightclubs I found myself in a weird limbo where at night I went out in tight jeans, pumping out cigarettes and shots between strobe lights and during the day I was in a shit uniform, feeling confined having to be told by teachers what to do.
It wasn't great.

By the second term I was still doing well in my classes but I was growing increasingly frustrated by school and I had friends starting to take me out to Open Mic nights (remember I wasn't flash hot, but you don't have to be for an Open Mic) and that is where I first got my love for gigging.
I was actually up on stages, in these dark venues down Brunswick and Fitzroy, drinking with like minded creative types.
I was an adult in an adult world, I was with people who understood me and my ambitions.

I got my license and I was quickly driving out to Open Mic's every night, and appearing briefly at school during the day.
My weekends I was out at music venues and bars watching live music and networking with these people and not studying at all.

I found I was living two very separate lives, and my friends at school didn't understand what I was doing as they hadn't left the comfort of school yet and still believed the lie that a bad VCE will damage you for life (trust me, it doesn't) I was finding school and it's bullshit very hard by this stage, although grades wise I was still getting by.

My songwriting developed as I had real life experiences to draw on and I started to pick up some paid gigs so 10 weeks from graduating I realised I didn't need to stress of exams, I didn't even need an ATAR to be a rock star, so I walked in and quit.
Everyone thought it was a terrible idea, but I was a stubborn 18 year old who had tasted a world I wanted for years.
Christ knows what my parents thought at the time...

So after leaving I have spent the years since gigging and working my way up the music scene and I've since toured part of Australia twice and internationally twice and I'm currently working on an album with a well renowned producer who came to me.

Point is?
You will only get better by experience (I'm quite a good and accomplished singer and guitarist now) and I didn't get better from lessons, I got better from working night after night on stages and VCE is not the be all and end all.
I was told by everyone music is too cut throat, only the best make it, you're a shit singer, you're an idiot.

Now I'm successful (relatively) and all those who slagged me off ask for tickets or suck up to me, it's amusing, and a lot of them are slaving away on HEX debts or grinding through to finish Uni because it's deemed "what you do for success".

Success isn't gained via paperwork, success is gained by happiness and doing what you want to do, don't listen to anyone but your heart and don't be afraid to upset people to do what you really want to do.
I'm proof you can make it against the odds.

**** school, man.

EDIT: Outside of those who know me IRL, I'll keep it that vague about who I am as I enjoy the anonymity of BF so I'm not going to turn this into a self promotion or linking shit.

Wow.
Really appreciate you sharing this and I'm genuinely happy you've found success in your musical talents.
Probably doesn't quite relate to me as I'm not 100% myself what I want to do, just have a few areas of interest in mind but no job or title I can think of.
Nonetheless thanks :)

If you're not sure, wait until you do know, don't become a professional student

Spend every weekend at an 18th house party. You only get that once.

pub near mine used to do 10x mixed UDL's for $20, well before the alco-pop tax but my god that was every weekend + 18ths. What a time to be alive.

If we are going onto muck up day pranks, we had fish in the air vents.

There was a lot of other random shit that happened at our school that wasn’t on muck up day. But a lot more ****** up.

We had the year level before us ruin it by putting nomore gaps in every single lock around the school the night before, school went absolutely ballistic and had to replace every single lock haha

I was always drinking beers but you bet if I could see a UDL poking out of someone's bag I would help myself to a treat

Nothing finer than taking some birds UDL

Would anybody know how I could get involved with Champion Data? I'm pretty good at Maths but I also want to pursue a degree in the field of Biology.
I've been thinking of a "backup" for my future careers and given my interest in footy and maths It'd be my dream to be a sports statistician. Barrybran is it you who works in this area?

This went up yesterday!! Get around it!

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-25/various-casual-roles-champion-data

Just follow champion data on ALL socials and keep an eye out, this yr they have posted job ads for casual roles in the tier 2 comp in pretty much every single state...

I did this for Box Hill for 2 years, was good fun.

I reckon that's home / alternate / clash. The grey and green one has been my go-to for a few years now though. Great stuff.

Lynx Australia is the only way to go when it comes to deodorant. But it isn't Christmas until you get a Lynx Africa gift pack (or three) from someone. I'm still going on the bodywash from last Christmas and ran out of Christmas deodorant in August

You will soon reach an age where you can no longer wear Lynx. But until then – enjoy
