Sigh. School has shafted me with my subject selection for next year so now I have to pick between Chem and Physics instead of doing both (wtf?). And potentially pick a subject I have no interest or clue about next year. Could be alright though because it opens up the option to do a Uni subject or some bullshit like that which boosts the good ol' ATAR.

Just curious but what subjects did everyone on here do in Year 12?
I selected these for Year 11 next year
English, PE, HHD, Food Studies, Media, Sociology.
No maths or science, easy as. Will probably drop Sociology for Year 12 as that was just a placeholder.

I guess it depends what you’re looking to do but it would always be handy doing at least Further Maths I thought?

English, maths, biology, German, music. Apart from the basics, physics & chemistry were beyond my ken!

English, Maths A, REE, Geography, Legal Studies, Drama and Economics

You going to a school where doing a religious subject is compulsory? If you are I seriously advise you to do REE over SOR (unless it's compulsory to do the latter to be eligible for ATAR - I have no idea, I'm from Qld). It'll help massively with managing your workload.
Nah I'm a Christian myself but private schools around here which do that are far too dear.

I haven't been told of my subjects next year, but I'm presuming it'll be the same as this year:
English, Further, Woodwork, Legal, PE and School-based RE (we have to do RE at my school)

I'm looking at either a Bachelor of Education (Primary) or a Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) at Deakin. Looking through a few options

I was looking at doing a University subject Sports Management at Deakin next year. I'm looking to do Civil Engineering there so would be a nice to get to know the place first.

Not sure how idiotic your school is but always expect the worst with subject selections. I was doing Chem and Physics this year and Chem was only just full, Physics barely half a class. So I put those down low on my priorities because silly me was being smart because no one would pick those. Next minute, gets shafted by subject selection coordinators.

However I'm not as unfortunate as my other mate who's a freak at science's and maths and is set to get a 90+ ATAR. He wants to do Chemical Engineering at uni and because he cant do Chem and Physics he's looking to go to another school which I think is a fair move for him.

But that's govt schools for ya :drunk:

Anyway here's mine:

Math Methods, Chemistry, Physics, History Unit 1 & 2 (Year 11), History Unit 3 & 4 (Year 12) and English.

Doing okay in Methods, not as good as caloschwaby but I'll survive. English is the subject that I hate with a passion but I get high marks in.

English, Food Tech, Business Management, Drama, Outdoor Ed, General Maths, PE

English, Further, Art, Viscom and Global Politics. Was going to do Physics as well which I was fairly good at in Year 11 but the teacher was a massive arse (as in really annoying, but also was known for being as the kids say 'thicc') so I ended up just dropping it.

Our school is actually pretty good at accommodating everyone. Most classes float around 25, some about 27, some only 20, although last year a Year 10 History class ran with only 13 students, which I found quite odd. I've never had a class that I've picked changed (we've been doing electives since Year 9) so I'm hoping for the status quo

I had 8 or so in my Design class and was always given what I selected.

Doing Literature, Modern History, Maths and Biology for Year 12. Going to drop Chemistry because I don't like it/ I'm doing shit in it. I'm getting 80's in Literature and Modern History, but pretty much just doing average in my other classes.

I guess it would be a lot different for private schools because if they piss of a students parents by no giving them a subject they're losing a ton of money from the parent and from the govt. Whereas public schools are propped up like the skeletons they are so it doesn't matter if a few students leave.

I got slightly shafted myself.

I ended up doing year 12 sport and art in year 11 due to numbers in my choices or something which meant I was only doing a handful of year 12 classes in yera 12 and I turned 18 before the start of year 12 so I was only at school an hour or so a day so I just started going out and not caring (I was a pretty carefree student anyway) The school knew that and my birthday and should have thought about the consequences better.

Long story short, I stopped caring and 10 weeks before graduating I quit to pursue my career (and those who have me on FB the last few days would have seen some posts about that, and how it wasa bad idea... that has now turned into a successful career)

What's your career now?

Musician, but I was no good at the beginning.
Perseverance and self belief goes a long way - that's just good advice for anyone.

Don't take year 12 too seriously, I've seen many guys stress themselves out.
They will make your ATAR out to be more than it is, it does not effect your career or life.

Enjoy year 12, being 18, clubbing, girls, ect and decide on what you want and even if it's seemingly unreachable or everyone else who succumbed to societies pressure tell you it's not doable or anything along those lines don't listen.

Back yourself in,

Maths 3C/D, English 3A/B, Physics 3A/B, Phys Ed (Sport Science) 3A/B, Applied IT 3A/B and Cert III/IV in Media (Film) through TAFE.

To explain the short lived alpha-numeric system of subjects in WA, 1A/B was the lowest/easiest, and 3C/D was the hardest, but only maths I believe went up to 3C/D.

My school is in a low socioeconomic area so not many kids did uni pathways, so TAFE courses were huge at the time. Regretted picking media though, as I assumed it was creative media in terms of graphic design, but oh well, now I have a film-making qualification lol.

Business Maths, English, Woodwork. By the time I started Year 12 I had enough SACE points under my belt from Year 11 and Pre Voc courses that I only needed the bare minimum for Year 12.

Back yourself in,
Looking at doing Civil Engineering at Deakin atm, minimum ATAR is listed at 71.25 so it seems fairly achievable so I won't be stressing as much as others.

Also I have been told Year 12 is like a war of attrition against everybody else. As in doing well is a secondary to actually getting through year 12 because the amount of people who just mentally and physically give up sky rockets by the time Term 3 rolls around. But idk that's just what it seems like.

3 years time and all the stuff I'm learning wont matter for shit.

Funny story, so Yr 12's had their last day on Monday and somewhere between 15 - 30 (around 80 in the cohort) of them rocked up drunk/drinking at school.

Long story short, Year 12 Assembly where they say goodbye to the school and teachers they've spent 5 years with was cancelled. Just goes to show how one group of people can ruin something for everyone.

English, Chemistry, Legal, Media, Math Methods and potentially PE (haven't got my courses confirmed yet)
Accelerated 3/4 Bio this year as well (exam is next week :S)
I enjoy Media a lot as I get to apply the skills I've learnt from here in my Photoshop SACs.
One of which is this set of three Marvel movie posters that had to share a similar element;

FWIW, Year 12 doesn't really mean shit once it's over, apart from perhaps personal or parental expectations. Pathways into Uni courses are so easy now, and a lot of Unis will take in students below the required ATAR just to get numbers to their university. I ended up having a lot of issues in Year 12 personally around family and my mental health, and it took a huge toll and I fell to shit for my Maths and Physics exams which dropped my ATAR significantly which wasn't really helped by being at a school that got scaled down. Didn't even matter in the end, got offered a place and even if you don't get into the course you want, get into a similar course with a lower ATAR, pass a semester, get RPL applied for your passed units and just like that, you're in your dream course.

tl;dr: Year 12, and more importantly your ATAR, is not the end of the world. Once you're in university, you're in.

Sidenote: This may not apply to things like being a doctor, but like, most courses you'll be fine. Worst case, you have to do a bridging unit.

At my school the 2012 seniors did a number of pranks which led to the guard of honour being scrapped (before being reinstated after an 'apology').

Some of it included:

- Attemping a sequel to the chickens prank
- Putting rape whistles (not sure what they were actually called) in hard-to-reach places
- Dressing up as teletubbies
- Shitting in the urinals
- Putting laxatives in the tuckshop sweet chilli sauce
- Putting superglue on a toilet seat
- Having a pool party during classes (as in skipped class to do so) - this was the final straw
