At my school the 2012 seniors did a number of pranks which led to the guard of honour being scrapped (before being reinstated after an 'apology').

Some of it included:

- Attemping a sequel to the chickens prank
- Putting rape whistles (not sure what they were actually called) in hard-to-reach places
- Dressing up as teletubbies
- Shitting in the urinals
- Putting laxatives in the tuckshop sweet chilli sauce
- Putting superglue on a toilet seat
- Having a pool party during classes (as in skipped class to do so) - this was the final straw
Not sure what ‘the chickens prank’ is but the rest of that stuff seems pretty stock standard to me.

Any parent who lives through their kids ATAR to show it off to other parents are just bad parents.

Some older advice, smashing your mates sister is not on at 18, but seemingly after 21 it is

I mean, sort of, people are more mature about it so if you're keen on one hold off

Chickens prank - in 2010 someone bought 3 chickens to school and marked them 1, 2 and 4. 2012 was someone attempting to do it again.

I went to a Catholic school so they would crack down hard on stuff like this

If we are going onto muck up day pranks, we had fish in the air vents.

Also, someone at our other campus thought it was okay to jizz into a water gun and squirt it.

There was a lot of other random shit that happened at our school that wasn’t on muck up day. But a lot more ****ed up.

I guess it depends what you’re looking to do but it would always be handy doing at least Further Maths I thought?
Not quite for me. Been doing poorly at maths and plan to become a Sports Journalist anyway so I don’t really need maths for that. Got 5% on my last test so I think I’m not allowed to even do foundation which is the lowest level. La Trove only needs me to get a study score of 25 (average) to get in to what I’m trying to do so I should be sweet.

take a gap year instead

From memory he did the same course I’m trying to do.
Bachelor of Media and Communication majoring in Sports Journalism or something of the like.
Yeah. That’s what he did.
I did a Bacehlor of Arts. Majoring in Communication, and Media Studies; at the same time as him.

As long as we're on the topic of universities and careers, what does everyone think of doing a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) at Deakin (I live in Geelong, so Deakin would be ideal). Deakin happen to make it a double course, you get to do both the sports management and a bachelor of exercise which sounds exciting. I've said for ages I wanted to be a primary school teacher, but I've sort of lost the passion and would love to be in an area I really love. I'll post the link to the kind of job I think I would love below.

I'm worried about doing a business course though cause I haven't done business 1 & 2 this year and can't really go into 3 & 4 next year (I'm Year 11 now, Y12 next year). I don't think I would have missed all that much though, and hopefully I can just catch up. Does anyone happen to have any ideas/advice?

unless you know absolutely what you want to do and have a very good idea of your career projection id steer clear of university and just recommend getting a decent job and travelling if you can

take time outside of the stress and perceived pressure of school to think about and research careers. uni can wait.

This cannot be echoed enough for me.

I made the mistake of competing with my really smart younger brother through years 11 and 12, my inability to focus purely on my own thing and what I wanted to do ended up with me doing year 12 (when I shouldn't have bothered) and doing a preparations course for uni after I wilted in my ATAR exams.

It's now 5 years later and I've gotten through a fair chunk of a uni degree, only to realise this year (after some mental health stuff) that what I'm working towards isn't anything I particularly want. My working history and everything around me has suffered because of uni, it's definitely not the be all and end all of things if you are murky minded about what you want to do.

Me? After extensive talks with family members, friends, my partner, etc. I've recently enrolled into a Cert IV of Communications and Marketing, hoping to do a follow up course in Graphic Design. It took me 5 years of my adult life to realise this is a career path I'm interested in, don't be like me, kids. Go on holiday, shag some strange in Europe, come back and find some work while you figure out who you are. Don't be sucked into the academic mind games of ATAR + UNI = $$$$$ like I did.

Dylan8 and MKMatty are so right about this. It's difficult to see when you're in high school, especially as I said if there's the personal or family expectations on you to go to university because that's "succeeding". Unless you really know what you want to do, it's just not worth it even if you're 80% or 90% sure on what you want to do. I never finished my degree, and I'm glad I didn't or else I'd have been miserable. That being said, the best years of my life were uni but only because I immersed myself in the culture of it (i.e. swimming and **** making friends and cheap drinks at the Tav). Outside of that though, I now have a nice big ol' HECS debt without the paper to show for it. Instead, I now work in a completely different field and quite enjoy it.

Funny story, so Yr 12's had their last day on Monday and somewhere between 15 - 30 (around 80 in the cohort) of them rocked up drunk/drinking at school.

Long story short, Year 12 Assembly where they say goodbye to the school and teachers they've spent 5 years with was cancelled. Just goes to show how one group of people can ruin something for everyone.
At my school, the same thing happened to a group of Year 12's on muck up day. A group of them got into the school in the early hours of the morning and vandalised everything in their path, tipping paint everywhere and destroying classrooms. They all are now facing criminal charges. They also filled the pool with assorted vegetables.

I was always wanting to be a Sports Journalist and wanting to commentate but now after being a football coach this year I have grown a passion for primary teaching. That is the way I think I might head although I would love to come back to Journalism one day. I also plan on running for a seat in parliament one day to!

Anyway, what I thought I'd ask, I am planning on having a 2 year break after school finishes in 2020- during that time I will travel. In 2021, I am planning to travel around Australia watching every Crows game than in 2022, I want to go to the UK to visit Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. During that time I would also go to visit the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Is there a way to still go to university after a gap year or couple years break? I have been overloaded and so busy and I need a break when I finish school so thats what my plan is.

I'm pretty sure you can show knowledge of prior learning and/or sit a test to show you know what your doing. Although, I think some unis still use your ATAR until a couple of years after you finish school

Your ATAR lasts for two years, but you can apply as a mature-aged student once you reach a certain age. I'm not 100% sure on the details though
