I don't recall hearing conservatives say those things.
If you can't see that abortion rights skew to the less privileged end of the socio-economic spectrum, or the massive overlap between support for anti-abortion positions and support for policies hostile to less privileged children like separating children from their families at the border, (aka punishing the vulnerable as a warning to others) or opposition to affordable health care, then I can't help but think you're being wilfully obtuse.

Anyway, this is why I prefer not to engage in politics here. It makes me sad about people whose posting I otherwise enjoy. I'd rather talk about footy. I'm out.

You want me to seriously consider defences of blackface? From rich white kids at an expensive Catholic school whose parents defend them with racist screeds of their own and employ PR firms to help them out of a spot of bad publicity? Why do you insist on bending over backwards to defend horrible people?

Look, my own kids go to an expensive Catholic school. This stuff isn't particularly surprising to me. The kids have agency and we put in the work to try and help them turn out as good people.

You did see my posts in regards to black face and white face, it's seriously a shit look for anyone, in particular an educational institution. It sounds like the school learnt from the experience, but I'm not sure why I am responding, you detest my kind and I hate arguing politics with mates.

Back to the footy and cricket, I'll take my leave of this thread for a while, it's like the GE thread all over again.

Kids eh? Bex of yesteryear is the Panadol of today. If you weren't feeling well your mum or nanna would tell you to "take a Bex and have a good lie down".
I was about to say ...

Specifically, the advertising tag line was "A cup of tea, a Bex and a good lie down". Was still current when I used to listen to footy on the radio as a kid.

... but it seems my memory might be playing tricks on me. It seems in fact that:

"A Cup of Tea, a Bex and a Good Lie Down was a comedy revue that opened at Sydney's Phillip Street Theatre on 18 September 1965." according to wikipedia. It may have been in radio ads too, but now I can't be sure.

I thought the dickens would make up for age limitations...

Nah mate, it's just the tribalism that gets me (not you specifically). Going all in on the culture war of the moment. I just think it's disingenuous to try and pretend these kids aren't racist shits.

It's because I know you and know you're ok that I take the license to snark :thumbsu:.

Maybe they are racists, but the Phillips incident is not an example of racism. People issuing death threats over a kid smirking is peak tribal lunacy.

Snark away;).

Looking forward to weather updates from Gasometer today. Is Katamatite melting today?

" I/she needs a cup of tea , a Bex , and have a good lie down " was a phrase I heard people say a lot in the way back olden days.... . :) either as a joke, ... or not. I didn',t know it was a comedy revue. . Maybe it came from that .
