USA

Best film, music and entertainment industry bar none.

Leaders in academic research.

Too many cities that are tourist hotspots on their own.

Fascinating from a historical point of view, both domestically and internationally.

Their college and professional sports system is epic (basketball, gridiron, baseball etc).

They know how to do junk/drunk food better than anyone else.

Boss playa in the political arena.

Chances are, one of your favourite things comes from the states. They have a bigger influence on the world than probably every other country, and whist some of that is negative, the positive exceeds it.

AMERICA - **** YEAH

Another tough one. Two of my favourites in this tournament (for vastly different reasons).

Would much rather live in Canada obviously, but I'm going to have to give the nod to Russia for being a much bigger player in world history.

Canada comes across as being a lot like Australia - awesome place to live but a bit of a non-event in the grand scheme of the world.

Whereas the last thing you could ever accuse Russia of is having a uneventful history.

Besides it's pretty obvious America is going to win so the last thing I want is a GF of America vs America-lite.

So yeah... Russia. Like MoscowHawk said a cold war GF face-off would be pretty epic.

Just like in the Summit Series (hockey) - Canada.

I kind of agree with Estibador. Canada doesn't have the history or intrigue that Russia has. It does have an interesting history of it's own though with First Nations Peoples, the settling of the West, the link with France and England and the War of 1812 against the USA - where they did manage to blow up the White House.

America will probably win this thing but I don't believe Canada is USA light. Sure people are similar in ways. Impossible not to be because most Canadian's live by the 49th parallel. Canadians seem passionate about different things though. Standard of life is very good and things like health, education, government etc are very different.

It really is America-lite. Kinda like Australia's New Zealand. Getting tough now though.

Flip of the coin tells me to go with Russia.

Apart from a relatively similar accent and some of the same stores, I think it's different in most ways. As I mentioned, history, government, health and education are very different. Canada's military is nothing like the US. Used to be big peace keepers but have a small presence now.

Canadians follow other sports more closely, are into some different music, have a different sense of humour etc. Climate also varies. Like the States, Canadians like to own property, have a nice car, have a couple of kids, enjoy the outdoors etc. Pretty much like every other Western country in the world. So, whether you're from any new world country such as Canada, Australia or New Zealand you could say they are America-light. Those new world countries have unique and great aspects but everything is bigger in the US. That's why they'll probably win.

Canada

It has some spectacular scenery and is quite an interesting country with the English/French thing going on plus some of my favourite musicians are from there like Neil Young. They've also produced some great actors/comedians like Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, Michael J Fox, Will Arnett, Harland Williams, Dan Akroyd, Norm MacDonald and John Candy.

Russia probably has more history wise and is more influential on the world stage but doesn't do a lot for me as a country, although I've never been there and only going by what I've seen on tv. St Petersburg looks nice but beyond that not much else appeals to me.

Russie vs Canada?

Damn this is tough. Reeks of the styles make fights cliche.

If I had to choose one to live in, it would be Canada. If I had to choose one to go on holiday to, it'd probably be Russia because it's far more different to Australia than Canada is.

Usually I'd go Canada but I think I'll go Russia for the fact that they have an appeal that strikes no similarity to oz. Plus I'd probably rather live in oz than in canada.

Hard choice though. Probably the toughest match-up so far for me.

Heart-broken that i forgot about this thread.

Without actually being there, Russia is a fascinating city. Their revolution is fascinating, the fact that they attempted to unify the universe with the ideals of Communism is inspiring.

Russia has a fascinating culture, with so classic identities in completely different fields. Additionally, it is meant to be beautiful.

Canada looks like a beautiful city as well (love Fargo) but Russia for me! (also wish i could have added votes to Spain, Germany, Switzerland and will definitely be committing votes to Italy
