Nothing against Canada but if you take away the anti US bias and people wanting to see an underdog win, it just can't compete with the US as a country.

If Canada win this, I ****ing hope France knock them the **** out.
Like Canada, but the boss playas of all boss playas should take it out because of how good they are, not because of people wanting to see an underdog take it out, or because people dislike another country more.
Winner should win it, rather than a runner-up lose it (like the semi-finalist here is).

I've been voting based on where I would rather live if I didnt live in Australia, not based on history, where to go on a holiday, quality of the girls etc that some people are. Therefore I voted Canada because I believe that it's the most likely place I'd live. Its a lot like Australia and it has most of the great aspects of the USA without many of the draw backs.
As for me being an American sports fan, there is no way I'd spend any significant amount of time in either Baltimore or Detroit so it didnt figure into my thinking

All right, I was gunna save my rant for the final but what the hell. Warning: tl;dr coming up.
Don't get me wrong, all things considered America is undeniably a great country. But being such a powerful (virtually unchallengeable) country means I hold them to a higher standard than I would expect from some other countries. With great power comes great responsibility and all that.
Their foreign policy is staggeringly hypocritical, the ultimate example of 'do as I say, not as I do'. They preach the ideals of freedom and democracy only to have a history of overthrowing democratically elected leaders in other countries and replacing them with violent puppet regimes more sympathetic to their political ideals.
They claim to be the world leaders in human rights but that only applies if you were lucky enough to be born American, otherwise they reserve the right to detain you indefinitely without trial or even have you tortured by proxy agencies working out of other countries. That's if they weren't using you as slaves back in the day because you had different coloured skin to them.
They're the only country in history callous enough to actually use nukes on another country. And they did it twice for f**ks sake! Twice! A quarter of a million people dead just like that. If it had happened to an American city it would be considered the blackest day in the history of the world, but as it is it's barely a footnote in history.
They have a ridiculous military budget of world conquest proportions (at the expense of looking after their own citizens with healthcare and welfare - so much for being world leaders in humanitarianism), and have repeatedly shown themselves to be one of the more militarily aggressive nations around, yet they still feel qualified to act as the moral guardians of the world when it comes to other countries trying to arm themselves with a fraction of what the US wields.
They make a big song and dance about bringing democracy to nations whose regimes they feel threatened by, yet stand back and do nothing as millions are slaughtered in other parts of the world because there is no self-interest there for them.
I also find it disappointing that such a powerful nation with so much influence promotes the most plastic, tacky, self-absorbed culture and lifestyle imaginable. Image rules over substance and it's sad seeing a generation around the world growing up influenced by their plastic celebrity culture and their loud and obnoxious me-first arrogance.

I absolutely am not one of those people that hate the US. I like it down there as well. I don't think I'd live over the border though. We can get the best of both worlds here in Canada. We get all the US sport, TV, shops etc. It's also easy enough to drive over the border and do some shopping. For those NBA fans, basketball was actually invented by a Canadian.
Canada has wide open spaces, unique scenery, a stable political system, a universal health system, a well regarded educational system and really great people. Americans can be great but you can usually pick out the Canadian. There is a sense of humor that is very similar to Australia.
