played a great 86 elim final against the bombers , it was fitzroys last finals win.

I don't think his game was that good actually. He was just at the right place at the right time in the last 30 seconds!

Obviously a Royboy favourite though and for one of his rare crap games, he will be most remembered for that goal that handed Hawthorn the premiership (Fitzroy knocked out Essendon who were the Hawks' mighty nemesis during the period. Bit like Hawthorn getting knocked out by Essendon in 90 to hand Collingwood a premiership as they couldn't beat Hawthorn either?).

From the now defunct Manuka club in Canberra(merged with Eastlake) apparently could bench press the known universe......several times :)

yer but isnt that always the case...does nuffin the whole afternoon then scores a goal and his game is remembered for ever.

loved watchin him play, i have 'that was the season that was 83' and he kicked a few rippers that year.

Micky Conlan was great to watch - built like Mr Universe but quick and a good goal kicker. I remember footage of him going on one of his power runs during a game on a wet day and hurling the ball into the rain sodden turf so hard that it kept bouncing straight back up to him - I think he finished off kicking goal of the day.
Dougie Barwick always looked like his little brother.

A body builder/powerlifter who could play damn good footy. I was playing junior football and I can remember one night all of us talking about how Conlon had just kicked 10 for the Lions. Our coach called Conlon a hungry #&^% after kicking a goal over a team mate's head who was standing alone in the goal square.

I remember one highlight (but I can't remember the opposition) where Conlon picked the ball up in the forward line - the ball was in play but he was over the boundary line. An opponent ran in to tackle him and he just ducked his head and charged at the would be tackler who just bounced off Conlon's bonce! Then Conlon calmly slotted the ball through from the boundary line! It was one of the funniest and best goals I've ever seen. :p
