ive read and heard from a few interviews that longer is no walkup for the ruck spot at the saints. hickey will have first crack with stanley pinch hitting. so i reckon its a risk having longer as a starting ruck and hes only played 9 career games so his scoring ability is a bit of an unknown.
His scoring ability is known and it's terrible. He averaged 38 last year in 4 full games. Fine tap ruckman but he doesn't get much of it around the ground (what we need for fantasy points). Not sure why the Saints got him actually. They'll have the same problem as last season with two high quality rucks who can't really play forward. Very poor JS, very poor scoring ability, pass. Without any ruck back up who will play, it also means Sandy is a pass in my book. At the moment I've got Nic Nat and Pyke in the ruck, SFA on the bench. That may change if a rookie ruck surprisingly gets games.

Doesn't nic Nat still have question marks over his groin?

Currently the club is saying he should be a walk up start in Round 1. I have him in my team but I might reassess after seeing how Cox and Lycett go in the NAB cup, if they both go very well I can see them potentially giving Natanui a bit more time off field.

this is my first go at it this year. Appreciate any feedback on upgrades/downgrades. Ive got about 50K left in the bank too.

Don't see Silvangi getting much game time this year, unless one of our backmen go down. Also Morabito will be eased back into our side, with our midfield as strong as it is, he is no certainty to play until mid year ( again unless someone goes down )

So far:
B-Mitchell,Houli,Suckling,H Shaw,Vlastuin,Hanley(Fuller,Battersby)
M-Ablett,Swan,Watson,D Thomas,Wingard,Polec,Tyson,(D Garlett,L.McDonald)
R-Grundy,Redden,(Longer,M.King)
F-Dangerfield,J Riewoldt,J Roughead,M Clark,Fasolo,Lamb,(Bock,Kersten)

Left Over-$22,600

New team, Thoughts?

Roaring Sloene FFC Fanplanner squad in the Dream Team competition. Salary cap left: $16,800.

Sam Mitchell, Pearce Hanley, Beau Waters, David Swallow, Matthew Suckling, Matthew Fuller
Jeremy Laidler, Christian Howard

Gary Ablett jnr, Scott Pendlebury, Tom Rockliff, Jobe Watson, Dayne Beams, Dale Thomas, Jack Martin, Claye Beams
Xavier Ellis, Dayle Garlett

Matthew Lobbe, Aaron Sandilands
Billy Longer, Daniel Currie

Patrick Dangerfield, Dustin Martin, Lance Franklin, Colin Sylvia, Alex Fasolo, Nathan Bock
Shane Kersten, Gary Rohan
Solid team I would only have questions on Waters and Sylvia.
With Martin forecast to be spending more time in defense will that affect his scoring potential...

Yep I'd drop Waters as he's likely to be sidelined for 4 months for shoulder surgery (the alternative where he plays injured is probably quite risky too). It's a shame since I think he's still young enough to be able to recapture his 2012 AA form - I just think it'll happen next year rather than this year.

Wow, I just put this together, $100k left over.... risky, but I might just go with it

Very, very similar format to my current team. It doesn't feel right to have so few proven scorers in the midfield but I've got a lot of faith in a decent amount of the rookie options. Mine likely won't stay like this, but it's a strategy I'm considering at the minute.

Im thinking the 2nd midfield could be alot safer and wont miss out on those massive scores from sj swan and ablett

Do it! Winging it and trying something different is how 1st place is made. No doubt the guy who gets the money this year is someone who was thinking outside the box from the start IMO.

Also a good chance it could go horribly wrong... but it beats playing it super safe and placing in a average/half-decent position.

There's so many comps this year and I'll be trying a wildly different strategy with each. Might be good to have one non-risky team so if all the others go down in flames it won't be a miserable crawl to R23.

This is what Im thinking too, well its my plan at this stage anyway. Playing both RDT and Fantasy, makes sense to me to go risky in Fantasy with the extra trades and pricing the way it is. Going straight GnR strategy in RDT.

Looking at a midfield in Fantasy of Rockliff, Cotchin, Watson, Beams, Ziebell, Masten, Murphy, Young, C.Beams, Ellis

My 3rd try but I'm the most content i've been with A SIDE. Representatives from 16 of the 18 teams

BACKS: Mitchell - Bartel - Simpson - Swallow - Suckling - Fuller (Laidler and Battersby as reserves)

MIDS: Ablett (C) - Pendlebury (V/C) - Watson - Steven - Rich - Thomas - Jack Martin - Claye Beams (Polec and Xavier Ellis as reserves)

RUCKS: Lobbe - Sandilands (Longer and Currie as reserves)

FORWARDS: Dangerfield - Franklin - Wingard - Clark - Lamb - Bock (Honeychurch and Thurnlow as reserves)

$400k in the kitty as well. Might get used on an extra forward if NAB Cup form isn't great

Clark won't be starting the year by all reports. I'd be watching Darling in the NAB Challenge to see what kind of role he's been having. He hasn't been too consistent so far but if he gets more of a run through the midfield then he could be ready to breakout.

Midfield needs to be stronger otherwise you'll be putting yourself behind too much to start off the season. I tried a similar tactic last year and really struggled.

Like this team at the moment. Always concerned about non-mid rookies, particularly so this year, so unless some start putting their hand up in the NAB Cup, I'm sticking with something like this structure. Obvious upper-mid-price strategy in the FWD line with both Caddy and Watts, but I've got a feeling about Jack this year.

DEF: Mitchell, Bartel, Hanley, Birchall, Swallow, McDonald (Schade, Georgiou)

MID: Ablett, Watson, Beams, Murphy, Thomas, Dunstan, Sheed, Tyson (Polec, Ellis)

RUCK: Maric, Sandilands (Currie, Thurlow)

FWD: Dangerfield, Franklin, Martin, Wingard, Caddy, Watts (Rohan, Kersten)

What's everyones take on Watts? ( lol )

From what I can see not many people are going for him, he's fwd/def label makes him more enticing plus he will play through the mid at times... For some reason I think he's going to have a big year but I keep taking him in and out of my team... at the moment he's in and I'm leaning towards keeping him there.

Lots of people said the same thing last year. Personally I don't see Watt the problem is and I'd consider giving him a go, hopefully Roos kicks him into gear.

If you look a few posts up you'll see Watts is currently in my team, and it's for the reason you've given - I believe Roos will motivate him enormous, and bring out his best game. Being a Swans supporter I possibly drink the Roos bathwater a little more thirstily than most, but I think the effect he'll have on the team will be seismic. At that price, it's a risk, but with DPP too, I like it.

Hopefully he does, the potential is definitely there and he'd be very useful to anyone's team.

I was also trying to work a Watts pun into my post.
