Last night was terrible. Just listening to Rattan in the after match press conference: he sounds like a guy who doesnt know what to do. He says we are just a week or two away from returning to form?!?!?!?! Talking about practising or movement in the forward line?! Seriously! I'm not a proponent of sacking coaches mid season but if they keep serving up garbage like that then we surely have zero chance of finals and need to think seriously about whats best for the future of the club.

He is finished, should never have been chosen to start with. Did his best and just not good enough. Let him go, move forwards, clean the rubbish out.

I think a broom needs to be swept right through the coaches box, Im sure the club will do a review and take the proper action at years end, cant see them doing it before that.

Barker Riley Williams etc for mine have brought nothing to the club. Fitness staff seem hell bent on skinny fit players, young player development is a real concern, we just don't have enough youngsters coming in and looking ready (i know our talls have suffered injury set backs, but its across the board)
The lack of improvement in our playing group is just not good enough, most have stagnated, while others have gone backwards.....someone must be held responsible for this.

The players also shouldn't escape the axe, some need to be moved on.....Warnock or Hammer ....one must go while the market is screaming for a ruck.

Been a Ratts supporter throughout, but i'm now kicking the tyres and sussing out the "Its time" band wagon.

What if, "what is best for the club" is not sacking the coach? Note: The next part is not necessarily aimed at you

Some here have a hard on for wielding the axe as soon as things get hard, others see it as a chance to improve. .. I know rationality is hard but there is rarely one true factual answer to any situation when trying to predict future benefit. ..

Well said mostly. .. I'm not in a position to know the contribution or otherwise of some of those you mentioned but particularly that last part is fine by me. .. I might still be happy to wait for a warning light on the dash but nothing wrong with exploring the possibility of the improvements that making changes would bring in a balanced way. ..

Are you a politician?

As Mike Patton would say:

"Indecision clouds my vision".

No, thats hiding from reality. People must be accountable for their decisions.

Brock Mclean is a disaster.
CJ was another.
Sacked coaches.
There is still no structure that I can see.
The fear in his eyes, the deer in the headlights.
Our recruiting a never ending list of flankers.
5 years, the same issues keep reoccurring.

Someone has to pay, someone has to be responsible, SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, he does not, he talks, he waffles, but heres the thing, HE CANT COACH, HE LACKS CONVICTION, HE IS WEAK.

Hird, Sanderson, even Hardwick have gone flying past him, they believe and so do their players, its not always pretty, but, you can see a plan. There is no plan with Ratten, there is no balance recruiting, no one is accountable, bring up the obvious, and you get sacked.

Thats Ratten, thats Carlton sadly.

You call it indecision, I call it reasoned thought and due diligence. .. I could call the other side of the coin a knee jerk reaction. .. Funnily enough politicians can be guilty of both your accusation and mine. .. Notice how I didn't make it personal? ;)

Is that due diligence as in Rattens selection process ;)

Woh, you are saying that Chris Judd was a disaster. .. The guy that has been credited with having a major influence on turning around the professionalism of the club. .. What, because he is in a form slump or couldn't single handedly pull us over the line once again. ..

So sacking coaches is a criticism and solution, huh?

So the coach is the scapegoat for everything (Recruitment, Injury, etc) that goes wrong, I see now. .. People do realise that a scape goat is called that because it is someone who takes the blame for others. ..

and don't get me started on this fear in his eyes crap. .. The guy is under the pump, of course he is feeling pressure. .. I'm sure I've had a similar look on my face when things are going wrong at work, should I be sacked for my look? .. Its grasping at straws to read extra things into it just for the sake of argument. ..

Why the snide remark about making things personal? Your post was absurdly vague and full of qualifiers. Facile rhetoric such as this allows people to maintain their 'superior' perspective no matter what actually unfolds, as they have never committed to any position one way or the other.

If you think whatever the club decides is the right decision, why bother engaging in debate at all? If you actually posted some reasons why you think Ratten has what it takes to become a Premiership coach, your commentary might actually have some substance. As it currently stands, it is decidedly hollow.

Ratten is always the first to be condemned when we are playing poorly and the last to be praised when we are playing well. The Issue here is not just Ratten, but the entire football department. Recruiting needs a review, why do we keep drafting outside midfielders/half back flankers? Lucas is a culprit here. While he did have injuries the fact is he has not developed. Is this the clubs fault for this? Not fully, but it is the clubs fault that we have an abundance of the same type of player. Yes we drafted Mitchell, high hopes for him and finally Watson is showing something. But the fact is our list really isn't that good. Jamison is over rated. He had a excellent half a season last year but aside from that he is another Russell (shown he can be a good player, but just doesn't deliver). While many continue to slam McLean, IMO he is one shining light from this season. Yes he may not have set the house on fire, but he has a go, he plays for the club. He is a type of player we have been screaming out for, a hard inside mid. For a bloke who was left out to dry by the club, he has battled away in VFL, never throwing the towel in and shown us that he has something to offer. I'd definitely be offering him a new 1 year deal (on less money). If half the team had the effort of McLean we may be more competitive, not everyone can be a Robinson.
As for Ratts, time will tell. He has to be given to the end of the year, he deserves that much. He can only control so much from the box. Yes injuries have played their part, but not the excuse. Ratten needs to get the mindset back. Hird said that he and coaching staff at EFC ensure that the players heads are right before a game. The confidence is down, and if we chop Ratten mid season it shows we have given up. But if we don't make the 8 Ratten has to go.

Hi, Im only commenting based on last night (haven't seen much of Carlton this year) but i think Ratten had the right
idea last night. An effective press was the only way i could see Carlton winning. It fell down because of poor skills and the Hawks caught
you on the rebound. Its pretty obvious you need a key forward desperately - I dont think Ratten is the major problem.
cheers

Don't worry sharks, iv been around these parts for years, I don't post a lot, but I do read a lot of stuff here, and must admit I remember this fellas first post, nothing much has changed in my opinion of him.

That did irk me quite a bit. How do you assume that? Saying there were promising signs in the 4th etc when the game's finished is a nothing statement.

When commentators like Bruce Maccawhatever start to notice the lack of gameplan, structure and god forbid, call you predictable!,then surely it is time to question the whole coaching staff, MC and anyone involved with game day and opposition tactics.
"It is time" to try something completely different to what has been tried of late, that is blatantly obvious to all, whether you are a supporter, commentator or mindless numbskull!.
"It is time" to plan for next year by putting into place the machinations that will create a club in search of,at this time, that elusive No.17!.
We're setting sail to a place on a map to which no-one has ever returned or are we?!.

So you join today (after a loss) and criticize the recruitment of Chris Judd?

so make ratten go/sack? an waste another 4 years while a new coach settles in an plays the kids to see if they are any good ? pleaseeeeee judd would be gone, scotland, carrots waite.

watie in the foward line or even crazy irishman added alot of structure, the little men garlett an betts loved it,having a big man to seat under. watie has missed so many games it's just crazy, throw in mitchell being made of lego, what hope with our list as it is atm did/does ratten have.he has tryed plan b.c,d,e imo

Better than waste another four years with him.

Hird, Sanderson, long mire and Scott reaped amazing success almost immediately
