Ryan - Pearce - Walker
Clark - McDonald - Aish
Johnson - Young - Brayshaw
Walters - Treacy - Frederick
Switkowski - Amiss - Emmett
Jackson - Serong - Fyfe

Sharp - Simpson - O'Meara - Voss
S: Erasmus

  • Would prefer to give Cox more of a lead-in than bringing him in underdone, feel like Moose and OMac match up fine for Daniher/Hipwood.
  • Conversely, I think Walker is critical otherwise we start to look very unaccountable against their small forwards.
  • Might seem brutal, but I think Voss has gone past Tabs.

As much as I'd like them to consider bringing Reidy in to keep Dogga up forward, I've made my peace with it not going to happen.

It'll be a fundamentally midfield game either way - we took them right to the line last year, and Fyfe/Young/Johnson give us some much stronger bodies around the clearances.

Put me in the quietly optimistic column IMO.
really like the look of this team and I gotta say I think you're close to the mark. If it stays dry we should be a massive shout.

Can’t carry two of Fyfe and JOM. Has to have Erasmus or Johnson in the midfield, in order to move forward as a club. There’s no way JOM should be getting games this season other then Erasmus and Johnson improving

Got your head in the sand if you think JOM is playing for Peel

I like the team. If we only play 6 defenders, plus Young then Young will need to play back 60% of the game which is ok.

Other option is to play Hughes or someone like that, but would prefer to play Erasmus and Johnson, and wait for Chapman to get back from injury.

reality is that voss has showed more than tabs or treacy in the scratchies and has done well in the preseason.

Normally, not a guernsey, he has to prove his way in from peel.

But with treacy and tabs serving us such quality excrement in the scratchies, he logically is worth a trial as third tall.

Prob is with darcy out and jackson rucking… he hasnt done enough to be second tall:( and amiss will just be double or tripled teamed:(

So its the experience of tabs - who is notorious for slow starts to a season - or Treacy, who has trained the house down but… cant get his timing right… yet?

Or mosquito fleet time…

Yeah I like Voss too, I do think he will come via Peel as you suggest

On Tabs vs Treacy: The stats support that Tabs is the better of the two right now, and I think he would have a bigger impact on the game this weekend.

Fairly certain Jlo will go with Treacy though

Treacys game isn’t just about goals it’s his pressure and bringing the ball to ground. Plus the fact him jye and Jackson worked so well in the few games they actually got to play together. I feel reidy is the one who needs to play and keep the fwd line JJJ or get a mobile fwd in cox and play McDonald on hipwood cause hipwood is a spud

Think this okay when he plays third tall esp when we had the triple T fwd setup, but not when he is playing 2nd fiddle to Amiss only

Darcy will miss at a minimum the first 3 games. We need to see if Reidy has what it takes at the top level so might as well play him round 1.
Based on what was shown against Port I’d rather Reidy play and find some form in the WAFL. He played himself out of the team in the practice match.

Voss or Tabs. Jackson to be supported by Treacy. Brisbane generally go with Daniher as the second ruck. Treacy did the job in the last part of 2023 and our form was solid including a close loss to Brisbane. Against Brisbane last year we went with LJ and Treacy vs Fort and Daniher. Hit outs were LJ (44), Fort (38), Treacy (6) and Daniher (3).

Personally based on Pre-season form I’d go with Voss. He is much more mobile. However Tabs traditionallly is a slow starter in the pre-season so if they feel he is better match-up then I’m ok with it.

The notion of let’s just chuck in Reidy and see if he is up to it doesn’t sit with me. He showed he isn’t up to it from the last game. Nothing to say he can’t go back to Peel and work on a few things but at this point I’d be very concerned seeing him play and feel that will create a liability.

Yeah, if they're going to throw Reidy in to see if he can swim, you do it next week against the Roos, and keep him in against the bruiser from the Crows to protect Jackson.

Agreed. Rather go without Reidy and see how Amiss/Treacy/Voss go with Jackson leading the Ruck. Give it two games if it’s a shit show swap it out before Adelaide game.

Honestly should go with both and have Tabs Amiss v Gardiner, Harris Andrews. Treacy as third tall.
Tabs can at least half his contests v Andrews. Amiss needs all the support he can get.
Voss isn’t going to do that.

Jlo needs to select for the now. Not for the future.

Or he risks being jobless

Johnson and Erasmus is good enough for now, and the future.

Treacys game isn’t just about goals it’s his pressure and bringing the ball to ground.

That's not worth as much as what Taberner brings, which is the lead up target out of defence - we've struggled with that every time Taberner doesn't play.

That said, I don't think Taberner is 100% yet and probably won't play until round 3/4

Johnson and Erasmus are good enough for the now.

But Treacy has not justified selection based upon current performance. He is picked because of the player we are trying to develop him into.

I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I hope they pick Tabs if he's fit enough.

Voss has shown some things but the consistent feedback is he plays more like a medium forward, despite his height.
He is a good Corbett replacement on the list.

I'd rather they put Jackson in the ruck and play Tabs than Reidy or Voss at this stage.
I think it'll be a more effective structure overall
It is a bit surprising we don't have a more capable backup ruck right not, has always been a strength of our list management whatever else happened.
