What is the upshot on Cezza?
They would probably play Walsh and Hewett as defensive side mids.
Crippsy should roam across the 50 metre arc, he can nail goals on the run.

I thought they would train on the Tuesday before the game, two days before, was surprised that they trained today.

No lie, their midfield is a LOT stronger than ours, especially if Dusty is out.

I’d disagree if Cerra is out. They pip us at the top end but we’ve got greater depth IMO:

Cripps
Walsh
Hewett
Kennedy

Then who’ve they got going through the midfield? Fisher? Newnes?

Cotchin
Prestia
Bolton
Martin
Graham
Short
Baker
Lambert

Then Nank/Soldo v DeKoning/Silvagni

We will never get a better chance to beat them (although if Dusty is out it doesn’t help …), but they’re missing Pittonet, Cerra, Weitering and Williams.

We need to win one of the next two minimum and we will be in the season up to our necks the way the Demons have fluffed their lines.

That's the thing about the Blues, they can't cover depth, they're an emerging side.
Williams is a major out.
Lambs could come in for Dusty.
Ross is a bunny in the headlights.
They might even retain Lambs as sub, MJ to play.
MJ didn't play in round one, he can upset the Blues' planning.

you know what dawned on me? IF we get one player in thats new, doesn't perform smashingly then he is back in the twos in a split second. Could you imagine Edawrds, Rance etc in the early days not getting a game how they wouldve ended up ?

Alex Rance played 25 games in his first 3 seasons - and that was when we were terrible. Edwards got lots of games before he was ready because we were so crap.

Dusty likely out… fmd is it too much to ask for a clean bill of health for our stars? Cant injury or illness afflict our second tier of players for once

We are out of the 8 and we need a big scalp if to be a contender this year we must win if not no one takes us seriously.
blooze arent a scalp bro

their best win is swans at home while being severely throated by the umps

Ignoring free kicks to Lynch, Riewoldt, Curnow and McKay, our pair win as many contested possessions as the Blues pair. The only difference is the free kicks.

Lynch/Riewoldt 20 for and 31 against. Riewoldt 46 non free kick contested possessions from 10 games. Lynch 62 non free kick contested possessions from 10 games.

McKay/Curnow 38 for and 14 against. Curnow 60 non free kick contested possessions from 12 matches. McKay 50 non free kick contested possessions from 9 games.

Carlton pair total non free kick contested possessions 110 from 21 games combined, average 5.24 per game per player.

Richmond pair 108 non free kick contested possessions from 20 games combined. Average 5.4 per game per player.

So our pair win slightly more non free kick contested possession per game in combination. Our pair have been subjected to 51 free kick adjudications in 20 games combined. The Blues pair have been subjected to 52 free kick adjudications in 21 games combined.

The only difference seems to be the way the free kicks are adjudicated. Free kick adjudications take the Blues pair from winning less contests than our pair, to winning more contested possession than our pair.

After adding in the free kicks the Blues pair win 148 contested possessions from 21 matches at an average of just over 7 per player per match. Adding the free kicks to our pair we arrive at 128 contested possessions from 20 games combined at 6.4 per player per game.

Thus:

Curnow + McKay = 5.81 goals per game + 0.76 goal assists per game = combined goal impact 6.57 per game(less any goal assists to the other member of the pairing)

Riewoldt + Lynch = 5.3 goals per game + 0.9 goal assists per game = combined goal impact 6.2 per game(less any goal assists to the other member of the pairing)

The Blues pairing gets around 1.6 extra free kicks per game than our pair. And otherwise wins less contested possessions, and presumably, has less goal impact.

Interesting to ponder.
The question is why/how the **** do our forwards give away so many free kicks?? It’s one thing to be getting reamed by the umps by not being paid frees, but to give away 31 is incredibly poor

That r1 game the AFL made more rules (dissent) and had the guns fully loaded and pointed at Richmond.
Every other game of the round,we did not see the same interpretations.

We were the science experiment for the CFL and they delightfully loved our unknowing participation.

pies loads of leg speed, something we lack in spades,n im talkin leg speed with the ball, not this castagna, aarts and mrj illusion of runnin round w/o the faarkin thing, good luck tiges from here on in,we'll win a few against the slow movers & struggle big time against genuine speed teams, speed is king
we beat em though?

No Weitering is massive, similar to the Dees, when you are missing your Key Defensive pillar its so hard to cover.

They however are missing their 3 first choice key defenders

Weitering always towels Lynch and most forwards - Lynch should dominate Marchbank
Jack should get an under sized match up and look to be the link man up the ground
Balta should get the best mismatch of his career as a forward and be isolated deep chopping out in the ruck

Prestia dominated 1st quarter last time then injured
Dusty was only ok and clearly struggling mentally
Gibcus played his first game along with Taz - I think both have improved

Outs this week

Dusty
Soldo

Ins

Lynch
Lambo

We beat them for 3/4's last time and this time we will have our best team on the park for the year and if all fit, we can beat them. We wont get a better chance than now.

They may be missing their main 3 key defenders but they didn't have Sam Walsh last time, pretty massive IN for them. He's a gun anyway but against us is the exact sort of player that will run rings around us, he'll have 40+ touches and will seem like he is absolutely everywhere. We either need to tag him or just make him really earn it otherwise he'll generate too much ball for them which will make it really hard to stop their big forwards. Worried about what he'll do in conjunction with Cripps as well as probably some gobbies from the umpires.

We're definitely still a half-decent chance despite likely missing Dusty. Sucks though, we haven't been full strength since the 2020 GF and I was looking forward to seeing how we went with everyone finally fit. Not to be this week it seems, hopefully next week. The hard part about constantly picking up 1-2 injuries every week is that not only do we not have access to our best 22 (which we need more than most given the age profile and lack of good depth), we aren't being afforded the chance to figure out exactly what our best 22 is, we dunno if Edwards belongs in it anymore, we dunno which of the kids belongs once everyone else is back, etc. It's annoying.

Anyway with all of their outs, if we can't win then our best hope is a finish between 7th and 8th, and we're just gonna be making up the numbers you'd think.

What I really want, regardless of the result, is for Carlton to show a little humility...

I made a fair and affable post there after their game vs Essendon, just agreeing with someone else about how they should have shut the door sooner on the Bombers, then went on to say how we would likely need to be full strength to beat them despite their outs, and all the best. I then had a reply to my post and the bloke says something like "Diddums, you're upset cause you can't go with us anymore"

Read that again: "can't go with us anymore"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Go with them anymore? When have we needed to go with them?! Despite all of their top 5 draft picks, big money trade-ins, slogans like "They Know We're Coming", they couldn't go with us for eight whole years. The only reason they're even ahead of us now is because of yet more trade-ins (Cerra, Hewett) and the fact that we're still playing almost the exact same 22 blokes, but now they're all using walking frames to get around the field. They should be beating us by now the f c kwits.

Nice one Blues 🤣
