With Clarke coming in would there be any chance of Merrett going forward? Then Ace can play true third tall then.
I was thinking that.

I think that we will use Merrett as our last resort. I would also be surprised if we made Merrett play forward for one or two games. Staker will play forward if he comes in. Clarke is just playing Gooses role IMO.

Don't think so, it looks like we are playing two of our less defensive forwards in Brown and Ace with Paparone playing as the hard leading player; almost another medium forward. I think with this set up we are much faster in the forward line with Paparone playing the Martin role but providing that running pressure.

This really highlights what an interesting player Paparone is.

Strange that Billy is being considered with this type of forward set up, he would be almost surplus to requirements. Especially if he and Lewie were swapping forward from the ruck. Although, in saying this it has me thinking that Paparone would play high forward if Billy is to play.

I guess that this will make more sense tomorrow night.

Yup, will probably be Lester. I like Lester, but feel Karnezis would offer more offensively.
I have always thought Lester offers more because he can go back. I would love to see Lester play a quarter or two up forward.

Karnezis does offer more offensively, but we have been next to useless defensively and offensively. Both players have their selling points.

When Leuy went forward against Melbourne he showed a little. He can be dangerous and he isn't a player to under estimate.

I am extremely worried about this game, given the number of changes we've had to make. Key absentees like McGuire now joined by Hanley, our best defender so far, and Rich!! Our shining lights have been Leuey, Rockliff of course, and Moloney.

I definitely won't miss Martin in the setup. He is a shocker.
The stage is set for Zorko and Green to step up. I think Mayes will show his class, and Moloney will be keen for a huge game.

Carn LIONS!!

It's possible a foward line with Cornelius, Brown, Papparone and the resting ruck could fire but on balance I think your right... Melbourne a massive chance to fall into a win here. Fact its at the Gabba though might save them. Agree regarding Martin, its still a slow foward line but at least it looks more threatening from an ability to mark/kick goals perspective.

What really scares me about this game is the loss of Rich and Hanley. Two of our natural footballers capable of taking the game on with creativity and deft kicking. Expect to see a lot of bombing it long to a pack on Sunday! Karnezis could help cover their absence but every chance not to be picked.

If lions lose to Melbourne at the Gabba you'll be able to literally see the pressure transfer from Neeld to Voss.
