At present player numbers, six players (men) 5 players (women) from both sides must be in one half of the ground at all times
This won't stop players changing positions, but some caution needed to avoid a free kick.
Monitored by the boundary umpire, there is 4 at senior level but any umpire can police it. Needs sorting but should not be too hard.
Shouldn't need any policing by the umpires. Use the GPS trackers in the players' guernseys. The game is already too hard to umpire and we want to add yet another thing for them to worry about!?

Not that anything i suggested will happen.

However, i think it would be far easier for the 4 boundary umpires to monitor then using GPS
With last touch in the AFLW they have far less boundary throw ins to worry about.
Other than running the boundary and fewer throw ins with AFLW what else do they do.
They see it they report it to the central umpire who awards a free kick.
Once the rule is in place i don't see a lot of free kicks paid anyhow.

How would GPS be better or even work.

Wonder if Suns Rowbottom is one of the players thinking about Lions...I hope sooo.
Would she more likely; a, join the Lions. b, join Sydney and play for the same club as her brother. Or c, return to Melbourne.

To move from the Suns to the Lions, really would be kicking a football club when they're down.

The most likely scenario at this stage is she remains at the SUNS I reckon. Especially with them sacking their coach today.

Like, she's one of the biggest uncontracted players on the market currently, aside from Tayal Harris. You wouldn't have rival clubs saying she's staying at Gold Coast if there wasn't hope of prising her out of GC.

The Suns also remain locked in negotiations to retain superstar midfielder Charlie Rowbottom, who is still uncontracted, though rival clubs remain adamant the Suns' reigning best and fairest will ultimately commit to a new deal at the club.

All this talk of congestion. It's a final - of course they're playing to win and the game will be more defenisve. The greasy conditions didn't help either.

I watch a fair bit of AFLW games and as identified, the skill levels are what needs improving. The reason North were dominant this year was their improvement in that areas. They were able to move the ball away from the contest better and get it to the outside. Players like Tripodi, Craven, Ferguson, O'Laughlin and even Riddell (who was already good) improved in that area.

Kicking has definitely improves but needs to get better. Same with marking. But the biggest flaw still in the game is the skill with the ball - handling and handballs. The women (and all of this is a generalisation) seem to be a little grabby and don't tend to let the ball "settle" into their hands which is what helps the best players appear clean. You rarely see a perfectly executed back-spinning handball. I suspect it's to do with boys rarely having a footy out of their hands from an early age which is why it's so important for girls to have a pathway to professional sport and that dream to play at the highest level.

That's why I was in mostly favour of full expansion. It opens up more opportunity. Yes you get a diluted product in the short term, but it's a build it and they will come deal I think.

As for scoring, they're playing on a full size field, but with shorter kicking distances than the men. Of course there's going to be lower scores.

Geez you know you’re playing well when the oppo start talking about changing the rules.

Buck up, 3 out of 4 flags ain’t bad.
😂 the changing the rules discussion is about stopping poor teams flooding their defence to make the games watchable, and not camping an extra three players behind the ball to stop the better teams from scoring.

According to this article there are 3 zones used in junior games up to under 10. Full field under 11 and upwards.
Not dated so not sure how up to date it is.

My suggestion for AFLW footy from under 11 upwards. Players would be changing from 3 zones to 2 not 3 zones to none.
Player restrictions in 2 zones would be fairly easy to implement in my opinion.
Al line from the center ending at the boundary. White or a different color (say yellow).

The woman's game can get too congested, but i would like to see them play with 18 players + 4 on the bench + 1 sub.
In other words, whatever the men's team playing list numbers/positions are under the rules, the womans should now be the same.
Two extra players get regular games at the higher level each week and that can only improve AFLW skill level across the country

With a total of 4 extra players on the field i don't believe it would make it worse and could in fact make it less congested.

Could also increase scoring with 1 extra forward for each side.

That's what I'm talking about.
Two zones sounds like a perfect solution and it will give the Womens competition a point of difference being a game that is spread out and none of this flooding.
Would this ever get done , I hope so , but doubt it will happen.
Maybe some trial games.

Yeah well , I have brought this up before, and tbh I feel they had an opportunity to showcase the game as it once was through the women .
Just my view a, as we all know the mens game from time to time gets way too congested , so why not open up the game and the field, more one on one contests.
I like the idea of just two zones , as it gives a fair bit of park for each player to still get involved.
The game is based on tackles way too much.
but as I alluded to earlier , I think some circles just want the rules the same as the mens regardless of how the game looks and performs, anything different would be condescending.

Nah just give the offending player(s) a little electric jolt through their tracker. If the game is on the slow side this should spice things up a bit.

I think the rule changes people in this thread are advocating would actually be to the detriment of our team, with the way it plays currently, rather than to our advantage!

Give the ability to the coaches - Clarkson would be hitting the buzzers like he's playing Flight of the Bumblebee.
