Yep, but he was getting a lot of the ball too, whereas Gault was getting nothing.

15-16 posessions the last 2 weeks. This game was actually the best opportunity for him to play himself in to form.
I agree.Dropping Cloke at this stage is just going to make a disorganized side even more disjointed. If they were ever going to drop him the West Coast game would have been a better bet, because we had no chance of winning that game whether he played or not.

Yeah, naaah.
Like I said, love the footy, listen to 2 or 3 games a weekend, go watch pies 2-3 games a year, vel pies the same with the kids, but emotional investment?

Being barreled surfing an outer island reef break in indonesia
Metre powder days in the Northern hemisphere.
Stalking, catching then releasing huge NZ trout fly fishing.
Seeing your kids milestones.
Now that's stuff to invest emotionally in.
Pies winning premierships give a good feeling. And that qualifier versus Geelong was probably the best game I've been too.
But I'll take the good with the bad and not worry too much about it.
Each to their own

I remember when Mick Malthouse cried with Paul Licuria after we lost the GF in 2002. In an article written by a female journalist she expressed outrage that grown men could cry over a game of football when people were starving in Africa, babies were dying from cancer in our Children's Hospital and all kinds of horrendous incidents were taking place each hour on our planet. Her article demonstrated an astounding lack of understanding of human nature and our emotions.

Did this foolish woman really think that because Malthouse cried after the GF defeat as well as crying when his dad died meant he cared as much about the game as he did his dad's life? I have held my mum as she died. I have watched my dad die slowly with Alzheimers. My wife faced cancer at a very young age and lost an eye to this disease. Both of my children have been viciously assaulted by strangers on the street and both carry the scars to this day. I cried when each of these incidents occurred and I cried when we won the flag in 2010. Does that make me a shallow, vapid human being?

You believe surfing or fishing is worthy of emotional investment. That's fine. But you must understand how superficial and ridiculous your emotional investment in these leisure activities would appear to some. Personally I understand your passion for these things. For you to say you were disturbed by the emotional investment some people have in the success of the Collingwood Football Club appears to be a tad hypocritical in the light of your confessed passions.

Collingwood is not just a football club to me. It is all of the glorious memories I have going back to my first game when I was five years old. It's my dad walking beside me with his hand on my shoulders as we approach Vic Park, regaling me with tales of his heroes in black and white-stories I remember to this day. It's the many games I watched with my brother and now my son. It's the feeling of being a part of something bigger than any one individual..feeling a deep connection to those who also love the black and white. It is not logical and serves no real purpose but neither does standing on a board on a wave if you want to break it down to it's physical reality.

Each to his own as you said, but don't mock those who feel the passion for Collingwood which eludes you.

Reality is most teams don't have a whole lot of depth in key position players. Most AFL standard key position players that are depth usually move clubs to where they are needed. The problem is with our other players.

Awesome post domus

Maybe you should give the boys a pre game speech Monday.

I know it inspired me :thumbsu:

Sorry, but what have I missed? The team is not finalized until tomorrow arvo, right? How is it people think Cloke is a confirmed out already?

Apparently it will motivate him to kick 100 goals in 2016!

Those who can - do.

Those who can't - bitch, belly ache and blame.

No one who has made an AFL list or coaches a club deserves to be labelled as a spud, idiot or moron by those who've only ever bathed in the reflected glory of others.

What a load of shit!

One week ago Knightmare was one of us mere mortals offering there own opinion on the current plight of the club. Now that he is employed by ESPN he no doubt belongs in the rarified air above the lesser reflected glory bathers on this site!

It's a goddamn discussion board people are going to provide their opinions. Like arseholes some of them will stink, but your blanket approach to it is elitist rubbish!

I partly agree with your response, but also empathize with those who are tired of reading pot shot after pot shot - trying to be part of this board these days involves wading through so much repetitive vitriol.

This pleases me

Thanks for your insight Scodog. Clearly, civil discourse is an elitist pursuit that should be stamped out. It should have been obvious that opinions can't be expressed without denigration, unfounded assertion and sweeping generalizations. My mistake, have a good weekend.

I think you've nailed it.
Opinions, views, thoughts, all good, all valuable.
Some will be agreed with some not.
But it's the repetitive pot shot after pot shot... It's tiring.

Human nature is interesting, how mobs form, it is fascinating in its way....

Unless my knowledge of the English language has diminished there is a difference between being dropped and unable to play due to injury aren't some posters jumping the gun as far as Cloke is concerned or do tjey have absolute irrefitable inside knowledge

Quite the opposite actually I literally acknowledged that some opinions on here stink! What you did though is attempt to deny people an opinion rather than do what I've done and confront the opinion itself!

I get that 100% and it grinds my gears too (reading a post last week saying they wanted us to lose was sad), but it's the blanket approach that was applied that drew such an emotive response. Call the individual out and leave it at that!
